Getting wrongfully charged with the power of Law Enforcement is different from simply faking a profession. What is the example you are having in mind?
I'm thinking of instances like The Town and Black Panther (2018) that have characters disguising themselves as EMTs during heists.
The cold never bothered me anywayThis could make for a sister trope.
We have several sister tropes that are all probably variants of a single "this profession has a uniform/badge that identifies them".
- Janitor Impersonation Infiltration
- Bad Habits
- Black-Tie Infiltration
- Clipboard of Authority
- Delivery Guy Infiltration
- Dressing as the Enemy
- Impersonating an Officer (as mentioned)
- (Plus the animal variant: Ass in a Lion Skin)
Arguably, they should all fall under Wig, Dress, Accent. Press Hat is wrongly listed under Disguise Tropes because it could be used the same way as these other "uniform disguise" tropes are.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.We also have Bavarian Fire Drill which covers people pretending to be some sort of authority to get away with schemes, infiltration, etc. without being questioned.
Does the trope of Impersonating an Officer solely extend to just when someone impersonates a police officer? Or can it extend to a character impersonating any sort of emergency worker (like a paramedic or a firefighter)?
