For each of you, it started the same way: A mystery man, a key, an invitation to a place called Nights...

The multiverse is a big place, an endless expanse of worlds upon worlds and stories upon stories. But some parts of the multiverse aren't content to stay constricted to one place. Sometimes this leads to the gathering of a diverse group of heroes from disparate worlds to fight a threat to the very roots of the multiverse itself. But between these big omniapocalyptic events are a thousand smaller stories of what happens when universes cross and crimes are committed because of it. Some would say that the multiverse needs detectives, ones who aren't afraid to cross story lines to pursue a criminal.

But you aren't necessarily detectives, at least not when you first arrive at Nights.

But hey, sometimes a detective mind can come from unlikely places. The walls of the bistro called Nights at the center of a multiversal Lagrange Point still remember when a guardian of lives solved mystery after mystery from within. And the walls will remember you too, long after you've returned home for the last time...

That said, who are you?

So, welcome to my take on using the format of a conventional multiverse crossover roleplay to take on a more episodic adventure. While the title and home base setting are very much inspired by a specific type of detective genre, there's a lot of potential genres individual mysteries can have as the heroes traverse the multiverse in pursuit of the truth. I'm pretty open with the kinds of characters I'm willing to allow into this so go wild with what settings you draw inspiration from. I am also tentatively going to allow original characters from other RPs with a couple of stipulations:

1) It has to be your own character. This should probably be obvious.
2) It has to be from an RP on the TV Tropes fora, even if one that was short-lived or never got out of signups (please link the original RP signup post in question if you're doing this).

Beyond that, I'm looking mostly for characters who aren't strictly detectives but have the skills to be capable as one and also are capable of working as part of a team. There may be combat depending on how the characters handle confrontations with dangerous people, but combat will not be the default solution to a problem. The game is going to be played on the forums, but for discussion and planning I would like to request players have access to Discord.

Currently, no new characters will be accepted until there is space for them to fit comfortably into the story. Stay tuned for when things open up again.

I've also decided to diverge a bit from the usual signup sheet format:

'''Character Name:''' (And if possible, hyperlink it to a reputable source of information about the character. If you're doing a TvT RP OC then link their original signup post here.)
'''Player Name:'''
'''Home Setting:''' (Tell me a bit about the source media for this character; what is their world like? What kind of tone and level of adventure are they used to?)
'''Backstory:''' (What's the important parts of their story thus far, where is their personal journey at by the time they meet with the mysterious stranger? Is there anything that is set to happen after that meeting and thus after one or more investigations? If so, are you open to diverging based on the events within Nights or even due to the story returning to the character's homeworld?)
'''Skills and Abilities:''' (What does the character bring to the table? What powers, gadgets or mundane skills do they have that could be used in investigations?)
'''Knives:''' (Give me somewhere around five pieces of information about the character that can be used in developing plots. This can be stuff like personal enemies, character flaws, important plotlines from the setting or even secrets they keep from others or people from their home world are keeping from them. If you have something that would fit here but you specifically want to keep secret from the other players, sling me a Discord message.)

Well, might as well sign up. Been hankering to play the Kindred again.

  • Character Name: Kindred, Lamb and Wolf
  • Appearance: Never one, without the other.
  • Player Name: Kage
  • Home Setting: Runeterra. A world of overflowing magic and wonder, with many nonhuman races and strange technologies. Some places are feudal kingdoms, others have begun the march of industrialization. As a result, Kindred are used to all manner of curiosities.
  • Backstory:
    • From the Mask Mother all spirits are born. It was she who carved the mask of the Gray Man. The Gray Man was meant to shepherd spirits into the otherworld. All things must meet him, and so they shunned him. Life feared Death, and Death was alone. Driven mad by loneliness, he took an axe, and split himself in two. Right down the middle. The result was Lamb and Wolf, two halves of the same whole. Everywhere Lamb went, Wolf was sure to follow. Death would never be alone again.
    • For a long while, Kindred performed their duty. Those who embraced them would meet a swift end by the Lamb's arrow. Those who ran from death would be hunted by the Wolf. Even as the world was ravaged by the undead and otherworldly, the Kindred did not falter. And yet, a certain boredom gnawed at them. They did not realize it until a stranger spoke to them, a stranger who should have not yet met them, and offered them a 'vacation' of sorts. Even now, part of Kindred is on Runeterra, carrying out their duty mindlessly, but part of them is now bound to a mortal shell to seek intrigue and adventure in other worlds.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Kindred Spirits: The Kindred are eternally bound; Wolf can never move more than about fifteen feet from Lamb. Lamb acts as the physical body of the two, with Wolf a spiritual companion. Wolf can thus not truly be killed - he can be destroyed, for a few minutes at a time, but he will always reform so long as Lamb is alive. Conversely, Lamb is the one anchoring them to physicality. If her body is destroyed, they would be left as wandering ghosts, unable to interact with the world for at least a few days while she fashions a new one. As a side effect of their nature, while they can eat and drink, they don't actually require sustenance. They also have immense stamina, though they do eventually get tired.
    • Lamb's Arrows: Lamb is an expert marksman, able to use her bow almost like a sniper rifle. She can also fire three arrows at once with high precision. Her shots are closer to bullets than arrows, such is their stopping power. Her arrows are formed of her own magical energy, so she never runs out.
    • Wolf's Teeth: Wolf is a wild beast, large enough for a person to ride on. Inhumanly strong and fast, his jaws are as a crushing vice and his teeth and nails are like blades. He is much more durable than Lamb, and will usually act as her shield. Though he usually appears to float in the air like a shadow, he can manifest in a more solid, four-legged form at will.
    • On Cloven Hooves: Lamb is inhumanly fast and lithe, able to dance around a battlefield without a drop of blood staining her fur. Her hooves also allow her to jump very high, find purchase on uneven ground, and walk on rough surfaces without discomfort. Her fur keeps her warm even in deep snow.
    • Keen Hunters: Lamb has superhumanly sharp eyes and ears, and as with any canine, Wolf's sense of smell is incredibly strong. Lamb and Wolf share their senses - what one sees/hears/smells, the other does as well.
    • Mark of the Kindred: The Kindred can mark a single target with a glowing sigil (resembling the Kindred's masks) that hovers a few feet above the target's head. This mark lasts until they remove it or kill the person targeted. The Mark gently glows in the dark and can't be hidden, preventing the target from hiding or disguising themselves. Kindred know at all times the direction of the Marked target. Only one person can be Marked this way at a time.
    • Lamb's Respite: Lamb can create a circular area a few meters across, in which the concept of death does not exist. This effectively means anyone within the circle cannot die. However, this does not keep them from being harmed; the target is just as durable as they normally are. They simply will never succumb to their wounds until they leave the circle or Lamb wills it.
  • Knives:
    • Kindred's greatest fear is becoming one being again, and thus being lonely again.
    • Because of their role, they are naturally opposed to undead and immortals, believing that extending one's lifespan unnaturally always ends badly.
    • Tying into the above, there are two separate undead kings (Viego and Mordekaiser) vying for control over Kindred's homeworld. Viego, the Ruined King, is a particular enemy of Kindred; he accidentally unleashed a plague of undeath in an attempt to resurrect his wife. He blames the Kindred for taking her.
    • There are multiple spirits of death in Runeterra, but the last is the Etherfiend. The Etherfiend represents the Second Death: being forgotten. When Kindred are forgotten, the Etherfiend will consign them to nonexistence. Lamb is vaguely aware of this, but Wolf isn't, and she doesn't like reminding him.

Character Name: Athena Graves

Player Name: sci300768

Home Setting: DeadCells. There's an island infected with Malaise (some sorta disease), and due to some sorta curse, has made Athena immortal. Outside of the island, life is ok. Athena just had to... avoid spreading the Malice outside of the island (she did!).

Backstory: She was a normal human until she somehow got onto that cursed island, and she still has no idea HOW she got there. In the process of trying to get off it, she got cursed with her current immortality. Now she gets by in life being an immortal with pink fire for her head and hair. Spoiler for Dead Cells: And she's not the only one that has tried to leave the cursed island as someone else has tried before her...

Age (Older than humans, has no idea how old she is now!) has made her not care for the things that don't matter in life like fashion and other petty things, opting for practical clothing. And often takes risks everyday... sometimes taking too big of a risk and thus killing herself because of a stupid mistake. No big deal, she's immortal! Immortality has lead to her taking unnecessary (and sometimes stupid due to overconfidence!) risks... often.

She looks like this:

Height: 5'10"

Her frame is slightly bigger than average.

A human with fire for her head and hair. She has no neck. Her hair's normal color is pink-purplish fire, but changes between purple and pink. Normally kept in a ponytail, but will burn the band and keeps a LOT of bands to hold her hair. Length wise it falls to her ankles when loose. Yes this is not subtle.

Clothing: Wears military boots that has steel toe covering for basically all outfits. Always wears a simple hooded black cloak that falls to ankle length, attached via a clip and not directly around her neck. Her clothes are fireproof. Wears practical outfits. Wears a belt that holds her smaller items and flask of healing (4 drinks to empty it, and refills upon death or finding a refill station). Has places to hold weapons. Has a bag of holding with a shoulder strap with the bag on her right side and the strap is across her body and secured to her belt for good measure. And yes, her clothing is fireproof.

Skills and Abilities:

Can access a map of the current area at all times which shows important areas that are marked, but it will fill in empty spots as she explores. Bound to her.

Deceptively strong and fit due to running and fighting for a long time (She does not looking like a body builder, but she's not fat either).

Is able to "ground pound" (more like landing on the ground directly below herself very quickly) from any distance when in midair, upon landing enemies in the stomp range take damage and are stunned for a bit.

Her intelligence and strategy equally matches her recklessness (Reckless often wins out...).

She can carry 3 active weapons at once + 2 tools/traps. Can freely switch these out to anything that qualifies as such. Her bag holds WAY too many things for her to keep track of, so she opts for what she can find rather than checking her bag outside of the one weapon in reach (stored in her backpack. Along with one necklace which will do various things depending on what she's wearing. Normally it does nothing and is neutral. Can carry more weapons, but finds this too impractical (She only has two hands!) hence this limit.

A skilled fighter, but her fighting style is best described as Improvisation Fu and able to parry attacks with the right timing. She's great at timing when to roll (lets her bypass enemies by rolling and also lets her dodge attacks, after use there's a quick cooldown before she can roll again) and when to attack.

Can double jump (it's one big jump + a little one).

Can control the fire from her own head and light things on fire with her own hair at will. Also, the fire she makes is the same color as her head. She can also be a walking candle if she so desires (She kinda is one already).

Is immortal. If she dies, her body flops over and turns into a headless corpse while her head becomes a green blob with one "eye" that matches her fire color that separates from the body. She is still alive as a green blob with a single eye thing. After a while, her body regrows and her head becomes a pink flame again. The old body just turns into dust and fades away. Her body keeps whatever is on herself (including clothing), but drops collected weapons and tools when she dies (She has spares of common things she needs for a reason). Whatever is in her bag stays with her no matter how many times she dies, but that thing is disorganized.

Due to her age (Which she has no idea how old she is by now! But past human lifespans for sure.) she has experience overall.

Mutations:

She can take 3 mutations at a time and if she dies, she looses these. The mutations can do various things but are mainly for fighting and survival overall. Though she can take on new ones if she encounters those...

Blueprints: Blueprints are something she can collect to unlock new weapons/items. This sounds useless here, but could be useful later...

Runes:

Homunculus Rune: Is able to possess other headless corpses via the head throwing thing.

Can detach her head from her body and her body stays there while her head moves around, attached to her body. Said green blob can grab things and return to her body with the grabbed item/look around. If her body takes damage/gets hit, head returns to body. There is a limit as to how far her head can go from her body before.

Ram rune: Ground pounds can destroy some weak ground.

Spider rune: Lets her stick to and climb up walls for a brief time. Can wall jump via this.

Vine rune: Some designated plants will let her grow vines she can climb, to access otherwise unreachable places/items. So long as it's a plant, it counts.

Teleport rune: Lets her use teleport stations to go to another location via another station (in her home verse, it's coffins. Here she has found a way...). Limited use outside her home world. But she HAS found a way to make this work...

Explorer’s rune: After exploring most of the area (70-90%) her map will show important things/items and their locations. Show the rest of the area basically.

NOTE TO SELF: A faded neon N key head and the rest looks like an old key is her key! It's permanently stuck in her inventory and she can't access it. It just... works when she wants to head back to the Night verse (This is for me!).

Knives:

3-8 knives aka plot development points.

1. She's immortal and forgot her own age. Someone might catch on...

2. Tends to... regard death as annoying. See immortal. Again, if someone notices...

3. She looks like a freak dang it! She's... uh... yea.

  • Character Name: Hinata Hyūga
  • Appearance: [1] [2] Around 5'4" tall. Typically dresses modestly and casually; though keeps her leg pouch on even her streetwear. Appears to be blind with cataracts to those unaware, but she tracks objects of her interest perfectly well with them—and when her Byakugan activates, a pair of tiny black pupils become apparent in her eyes, along with the veins around their sockets swelling and becoming uncannily prominent.
    • As an additional note, her key to Nights has taken the form of a false Caged Bird Seal identical to the one on her late relative Neji's forehead; which is a request she made in honour of his death. This seal is only functional as a key and normally invisible unless she she wills it to become apparent, as it's meant to be a tribute to a person she loved rather than a permanent curse mark in and of itself.
  • Player Name: Enirboreh
  • Home Setting: Naruto, from a world where superpowered ninja are the most important military factions in their respective villages. It's a bright, but still brutal land, and Hinata has been exposed to the likes of death and horror from a very young age. As such, she's become partially used to such experiences in her young adulthood.
  • Backstory:
    • Born to the Hyūga clan in the Hidden Leaf Village, Hinata was obligated from a very young age to grow up and represent the best the clan's main branch had to offer, and a lot of expectation and tough love was placed on her despite her extremely shy and sensitive personality. Struggling to match up against even her younger sister in basic combat, Hinata fought tirelessly despite her weakness and unwillingness to hurt people she loved, and as such was put under a lot of pressure and borderline abusive training from her family in order for her to get stronger. All of this culminated in a battle against her own half-brother in order to graduate the Chūnin Exams, even though said relative viewed it as revenge on the main house for the mistreatment received on his branch of the family. Even though she tried her best, she was still ultimately overwhelmed by him and defeated; especially after he cruelly broke her spirit through intimidating words in front of the entire audience present at the exams. With her motivation to fight on only bolstered by her childhood crush standing up for her, Hinata recovered moreso in determination quicker than even her body did, and soon she had dedicated herself to training harder than ever before in an effort to live up to her crush's trust in her.
    • It has been several years since then, and the 12-year-old who partook in those exams is now 19 years of age; a respectable ninja in her own right even if it was ultimately her sister who took on the responsibilites of heiress. After fighting against threats she'd never have dreamed of defeating in her youth, Hinata has found her courage and fighting spirit, having almost died for her love and even brought herself closure in confessing to him at her lowest point. However, it's been two years since she admitted this to him, and she's had no reciprocation so far. A part of her yearns for a response, but at the same time she knows she can't let her life revolve solely around a romantic attraction—as such she has taken on a more composed and focused persona that better embodies the professionalism that ninja are known for. Even though she's still a little shy at heart and averse to conflict, she will no longer hesitate to stand up for herself or for those who need it, and her lingering hatred for unnecessary conflict remains as a motivation for her to never give up in stopping cruelty wherever she can. The invitation from the mysterious man was one met with wariness from her, but upon hearing that it'd affect worlds other than her own she was both honoured and eager to travel to Nights.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Taijutsu: Assisted by her Byakugan, Hinata is proficient in her family's combat style known as the Gentle Fist—a style focused on rapid and precise (though as the name would suggest, not necessarily powerful) strikes to specific points in the body in order to forcibly inject damaging amounts of chakra into the opponent of the Hyūga in question. Even with the force of a gentle tap Hinata can cause internal ruptures to her enemy's organs and blood vessels, and if they happen to have chakra pathways as an addition she can forcefully clog them up and render them unable to gather chakra for the duration of a battle. Hinata's combat skills have been refined over the years, and during the height of combat her fighting style almost resembles an elaborate dance in its gracefulness. Despite the somewhat ironic naming convention, the Gentle Fist is arguably one of the most dangerous combat styles in all of the Konohagakure clans, and though she's no grand master she's most certainly doing her family proud. Hinata is also able to fight with small weapons such as ninjatō, shuriken, and kunai, though she most often prefers to face her opponents barehanded.
    • Chakra Moulding: Utilizing the natural energies produced by her body's innate chakra systems, Hinata can bolster her attacks and physical abilities by directing and forming her chakra either into or outside specific points in her body. It is this innate energy that she can so lethally inject into her opponents via the Gentle Fist, though she has a limited amount at a given time, as it is intrinsically tied to her stamina and overall life force (this can regenerate with sufficient rest). It is also with chakra that she can activate her family's bloodline ability—pushing the energy up to her eyes so as to bolster their capabilities as Byakugan. Additionally, she can infuse chakra into the soles of her feet so as to scale walls or uneven surfaces (including water) as easily as one walks down the street. Due to her family's practices, Hinata only knows a limited amount of jutsu; illusory cloning (to a maximum of two intangible duplicates), physical transformation (into the shape of any object/person she has intensely studied enough to confidently replicate in her mind) and body replacement (rapidly swapping places with a nearby small object to avoid injury; though this jutsu can be particularly exhausting for her). Hinata has also picked up a few medical applications with her Gentle Fist, and with enough care she can realign broken bones and set dislocated shoulders with a few precise taps to a person's pressure points. Hinata's chakra affinities are Fire and Lightning, meaning that she can learn jutsu related to those elements much easier than any other.
    • Byakugan: The bloodline ability of the Hyūga, which allows them to access nigh-360 degree vision (barring a single degree on the back of their neck—which broadens considerably into a large cone at a distance), the ability to focus through solid walls (which also renders blinding effects ineffective), and the ability to magnify tremendously on distant targets (up to a maximum of 20 km in a single direction, in Hinata's case). Hinata can also see the internal flow of chakra within her opponents with this bloodline ability, which is how the Hyūga target pressure points in the first place—though if those outside her homeland lack these chakra systems then she may find herself at a disadvantage. The Byakugan also penetrates through illusions and can easily perceive truths hidden behind mystical disguises, meaning it is very difficult to fool Hinata while her bloodline ability is activated. Despite training with it all throughout her youth, Hinata is still refining her skills with the Byakugan, and excessive use of it may fatigue her tremendously—by Hyūga standards, she's actually rather average in her abilities. Still, her enhanced perception is incredibly useful for scouting, tracking, and even in fighting, so the Byakugan's reputation isn't exactly being tarnished.
    • Twin Lion Fists: A secret, advanced chakra-bolstered Taijutsu technique taught only to main branch members of the Hyūga clan. Though it's exhausting to perform and drains through Hinata's chakra reserves like no other, these literal big cat fisticuffs envelop her fists in spectral lion's heads and allow her to pummel her opponents with the pure force of concentrated chakra. It is much less precise of a technique than the Gentle Fist, but it allows Hinata to combat much tougher opponents than herself on relatively even ground; relying on good old-fashioned brawling philosophies combined with her high agility and light step to avoid counterattacks.
  • Knives:
    • Is often targeted for her Byakugan, and the Hyūga clan is well-known as being a powerful clan in her homeworld. As such, it's highly possible that she may be targeted by people from her world when she least expects it. Furthermore, it's possible to steal her eyes directly from her skull due to humanity's physiology being notably different from normal.
    • Is still averse to conflict, and doesn't like to hurt people more than necessary. This may prove dangerous for her if her enemies don't share the same sentiment, and she can be overwhelmed if her courage fails her somehow. Hinata is particularly vulnerable to psychological warfare, and her own bad experiences with her clan can come back to haunt her when she's under enough pressure.
    • As a Hyūga, she's a descendant of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki and the alien Ōtsutsuki clan in general, and the Byakugan is directly derived from Kaguya's own variant of the technique. As this technically gives her a pseudo-divine lineage (not that it means much in her case) she may be recognised as having such by others attuned to these things.
    • Hinata has been careful to avoid making an arch-nemesis (as her half-brother Neji died in the Fourth Shinobi World War) but she has been developing a temper towards those who mess with her loved ones in particular—especially if they're oblivious or uncaring in regards to the damage they cause.

  • Character Name: Espresso Cookie
  • Player Name: Lily the Litten
  • Home Setting: Cookie Run: Kingdom. A sugary sweet world of adventure, with gnomes made of sugar and monsters made of cake! Don't think it's all sugar and spice, though. The people of the Cookie Kingdom must contend with the forces of darkness, led by Dark Enchantress Cookie and out to take over all of Earthbread!
    • Yeah, it get surprisingly dark. Espresso's no stranger to suffering.
  • Backstory: Espresso grew up in the Sugar Republic, and despite some minor issues (my bad entirely), he managed to rise to the higher echelons of the social order. This was in no small part due to his invention of coffee magic, which is...well, exactly what it sounds like. Beloved by the Republic's citizens, it was he who was chosen for a quest to find the legendary Soul Jam.
    • And what a quest it was. The journey took him to a brand new kingdom across the sea, where he found himself embroiled in a struggle against the wicked Dark Enchantress Cookie and her lackeys. Fortunately, the Cookie Kingdom managed to triumph, even setting the Vanilla Kingdom on the path to rebuild. Everything was nice and calm...and then Espresso received the invite. He was skeptical, of course, but surely, there could be no harm in accepting it...?
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Coffee Magic: Exactly What It Says on the Tin. Magic that concerns itself with the making of coffee. Espresso's many brewing experiments are inseparable from his spellcasting.
      • Grinding: Precise and even grinding is key for magically delicious coffee! A giant whirlwind inflicts serial area damage to enemies and pulls them to its center. The final burst of damage interrupts skills. (No I didn't copy-paste this from the wiki why do you ask)
  • Knives:
    • Espresso is a professor at the Parfaedia/Parfaedium/Parfaedian (the spelling is really unclear) Institute, a school for magic.
    • He did not go on the Soul Jam journey alone; rather, he was accompanied by one Madeleine Cookie, a paladin who is very annoying (to Espresso). Espresso did not actually tell Madeleine where he was going, so that could lead to some trouble.
    • While the darkness has been repelled (for now) the Quirky Miniboss Squad (aka the Cookies of Darkness) are still out and about. Licorice Cookie, Dark Choco Cookie, Pomegranate Cookie, and Poison Mushroom Cookie aren't aware of NIGHTs and the multiverse yet...but if they do find out, it could spell disaster for everyone.
    • Canonically, the journey continues after the Vanilla Kingdom; the Hollyberry Kingdom is under the tyrannical rule of a dragon, while the Dark Cacao Kingdom's leader is having his mind messed with by his right hand, who desires to take over. If someone doesn't step in, the situations there could get ugly...
    • Speaking of said right hand (and this is where we enter the world of headcanon)...Affogato Cookie is a power-hungry manipulator whose snide smile masks some seriously wicked intentions. He's also Espresso's father, having briefly trained him in magic before disappearing when he was six. Naturally, someone so obsessed with power would be very interested in the multiverse's myriad ways to get it...and if he and Espresso ever cross paths again, sparks are going to fly.

  • Character Name: Twilight Sparkle

  • Appearance: Standing at 5"3', the 17 year old Twilight Sparkle typically wears a labcoat or similar attire, and her purple hair is tied so as not to get in her face or caught in other things. Her glasses almost never leave her face, given that she cannot see very well without them. Her purple skin, contrary to expectations, is what she was born with, as differing skin tones are natural in her world.

  • Player Name: Bored_Man

  • Home Setting: My Little Pony: Equestria Girls. A world that previously was like your typical Earth, but thanks to the mishaps of visiting Equestrians, magic began leaking in through the gate between worlds, and has slowly been changing said Earth as a result and making more fantastical flora and fauna arise.

  • Backstory:
    • As a student of Crystal Prep Academy, a school for gifted students (supposedly), Twilight Sparkle put forth her best effort in two things: rising to the top of each class grade-wise, and avoiding her peers as much as possible. Naturally, the competitive nature of high school students meant that as she succeeded in the former, the latter became harder and harder to do, as students would show their displeasure for this little wallflower showing them up all the time. Eventually, this led the shunned and friendless Twilight Sparkle to apply for a transfer to an independent study program to escape the academy...only for her principal, Abacus Cinch, to get involved. Given Miss Sparkle's sterling record and how it made the academy look good, she wasn't about to let her go...not without Twilight doing something for her.
    • Thus began Twilight Sparkle's involvement in the Friendship Games, an inter-school tourney between Crystal Prep and their rival, Canterlot High. Despite her unwillingness to be part of this whole business, there was a silver lining in the fact that she had a valid excuse to be on Canterlot's school grounds and investigate the unexplained phenomena that had been happening as of late. This led to Twilight collecting a sizable amount of 'magic', and despite not knowing exactly what she was dealing with, she knew it was dangerous and shouldn't be used carelessly. Unfortunately, Principal Cinch and her own teammates disagreed, and after being guilted and pressured into doing whatever it took for the school to take the win, Twilight absorbed the magic she'd collected...
    • ...which resulted in the birth of Twilight Sparkle's superpowered alternate self: Midnight Sparkle. No longer a meek and quiet wallflower, Midnight was loud, proud, and not afraid to hurt others. Nowhere was this more evident than in the fact that her attempts to breach the walls of reality between her world and Equestria, the source of her obtained magic, would almost certainly spell doom for the former. Thus, after a desperate fight to drive her away and a failed attempt to talk her down, Midnight was finally forced to retreat. And since then, a year has passed...

  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Genius: While not an ability in the traditional sense, it cannot be denied that Twilight Sparkle is a prodigy in academics, and has a very good grasp in multiple fields of study, both normal and magical. This includes astronomy, robotics, computer science, and more. Just don't ask her to do anything athletic.
    • Telekinesis: With having no formal instruction on how to use the magic she'd come to possess, the ability to lift and manipulate objects is Twilight's safest option, and it's thankfully one she has gotten very good at.
    • Transformation: When the situation calls for it, Twilight can choose to sink back into her Midnight Sparkle persona, which gives her a large boost of magic to use as she wishes, but it also warps her personality as a result, meaning that Twilight is naturally hesitant to use this unless she has to.

  • Knives:
    • Twilight Sparkle's exodus from Canterlot High School did not go unnoticed, as other magically inclined ladies are now looking for her, hoping to get her under control and stop her from having a relapse of Midnight Sparkle's awakening.
    • During her initial rampage as Midnight Sparkle, Twilight ended up killing Principal Cinch as payback for what she put her through. Upon fleeing and shifting back, the reality of what she'd done hit her hard, traumatizing and terrifying the girl enough to be on the run ever since, only having her dog Spike for company (who ended up being granted the gift of speech thanks to magic).
    • Through her attempts of learning how to control her powers in both forms as well as trying to expand her stores of magic to call upon, Twilight has breached the walls of multiple realities, which has occasionally resulted in parties on the other side of these breaches taking notice of her and either engaging her in conversation or chasing her off.

Was considering a few characters, but settled on bringing back one of my former RP OCs, since everyone else is going for an established media character.

  • Character Name: Ysersya, but goes by the alias of Cecilia Stout.

  • Player Name: Firock Finion.

  • Home Setting: Town of Dungeoneering, a medieval fantasy affair with magic and some steampunk technology, where nations of primarily one race of demographic have risen and warred and fallen. Some two hundred years ago, a mysterious and highly dangerous cavern that seemed to magically reorient itself when entered was found close to the borders of three nations, two of which were at war at the time. A structure was built over the entrance of the cavern, the building and cavern together then becoming known as Monmoth. Over time, a city known as Hirane was built around Monmoth, as those brave and/or foolish enough to chance delving into the cavern to attain riches held within came from far and wide, thus attracting merchants and other opportunistic entrepreneurs to come and make a profit off these 'adventurers'. Hirane would be declared a free city after a treaty was worked out between the three adjacent nations, and now serves as the center of attention and discussion across much of the continent that makes up the known world. Including Ysersya...

  • Appearance: 5'7", with Caucasian skin but patches of bright red scales on her wrists, ankles, shoulders, sides of her neck, and sides of her torso and hips. Her hair and eyes are the same bright red color as her scales, and her hair is about shoulder length and straight; poking out of her hair are two horns, each an inch long, and black and pointed like spikes, located just above her forehead and slightly to either side. Finally, her teeth are sharp and pointed. Since her species do not age normally, she always has the look of a human in her mid-late 20s.
    • ... That's of course what she actually looks like, but normally she always wears an illusion magic necklace which makes her scales look like the rest of her skin, her hair blonde, her eyes blue, her horns invisible, and her teeth like normal human teeth. Thus effectively she looks like a human. It's all just an illusion rather than transformation, so anyone actually touching her non-human features (the scales, horns, or pointy teeth,) would still feel them as such.
    • She usually wears short dresses that are practical to move around in and don't stain easily, tall boots, and gloves which go halfway up the forearms. Thus the only patches of scales not covered in clothing are the ones on her neck, to minimize the chance of anyone touching them and discovering her true nature by happenstance or accident.

  • Back Story: Ysersya was born into the Xiomahr clan of a race that refer to themselves as the fallen ones, but are derisively referred to by other races as demons. Ysersya was found to be a prodigy of magical talent, more powerful and gifted with it than anyone else in her clan, and indeed seemingly any other fallen one, and possibly anyone else in the whole world at the time. She never possessed a gift of future sight though, and a fallen one of a nearby clan who did foretold a prophecy involving Ysersya; that Ysersya would unite her clan and their allies and lead them to war against the neighboring human nation of Avalon and destroy them, guaranteed to be successful so long as no human of completely selfless heart stood to oppose her. Fallen ones saw humans as weak and selfish beings, so she gladly took on this prophecy, feeling certain that she would win. This happened to be around the same time that Monmoth was first discovered, and Avalon was one of the three nations that bordered it. (The one that was not currently at war with either of the others.)
    • Well, Ysersya lost, because a selfless human commoner who signed up to fight in the war against her exploited her arrogance and won in a climactic showdown, after months of her laying waste to part of Avalon. Since the prophecy was broken, the fallen ones were no longer guaranteed to win, and the Xiomahr clan chieftain blamed Ysersya for that; then he used a powerful magic artifact to strip away Ysersya's magic powers. After that, he exiled Ysersya, leaving her to the whims of the hero that had defeated her, and then took his forces out of Avalon and later signed a tenuous peace with them. In the meantime, the hero decided to spare Ysersya, as he reasoned that killing her wouldn't bring anyone that she killed back to life, and in his opinion her exile and loss of her powers was punishment enough.
    • Ysersya went into hiding for decades afterward, living as a hermit and avoiding everyone she could. A kind dwarf traveler who did not know who she was found her, and befriended her, before eventually coaxing her into telling him who she was and what she had done. Though he disapproved of her past actions, he took pity on her for being forced to live as a hermit, and offered her the magical necklace, which he had happened upon in his travels. Ysersya took the necklace but did not start using it right away, feeling conflicted about pretending to be a human due to still having some of her pride as a fallen one despite all that had happened. In time though, partially out of desperation to not have to fend for herself in the wilds and partially due to a desperate need for socialization, she started using the necklace and assumed a false human identity so she could integrate into a human village. So for the past 170 or so years, she's been living in Avalon, occasionally moving from one village to another and taking on a new identity, due to her lack of aging throwing suspicion upon her or her true nature as a fallen one being suddenly discovered. Over this time she's formed an appreciation for the simple and hardworking nature of humans and other races, and has gone through a change of heart that has made her completely opposed to the ideology of might makes right that she once stood for. She now prefers nothing more than a peaceful and quiet job where she can help people, which is why she intended to move to Hirane, to open a cheaply priced inn for the adventurers going into Monmoth. Instead, on the way there, she met the mystery man, and was given the invitation to Nights. Though she's not sure if it will be quiet or peaceful, she saw the opportunity to help people...

  • Skills and Abilities: Having been stripped of her immense magical power, Ysersya is for the most part rather mundane. She does have greater physical strength than a human of her build would have, but other than that she has nothing functionally supernatural going for her.
    • What she does have though, is over two hundred years of practical experience, and she has learned in that time how to fight with a knife, short sword, and other simple one-handed weapons. She also knows some hand to hand fighting styles, in particular being skilled at using the momentum of an attacker against themselves while she avoids their attacks.
    • For her mystery solving skills, Ysersya is very observant on account of being on edge and alert for anyone discovering her true identity for such a long time. From meeting so many people in her life, she can usually make a good guess at the nature of someone's character from how they behave, even from as subtle clues as just how they walk, stand, and talk. While she can no longer cast any magic, she is still very knowledgeable and familiar with it, and can identify virtually any spell or enchantment with little issue... As long as it's magic from her world, or functionally identical enough.
    • Not that they're too liable to become relevant in their detective work, but it is worth mentioning that Ysersya has spent the better part of 3 decades surviving alone in the woods, then after that, 17 decades doing all sorts of mundane jobs. As such, she has a variety of practical skills... For a medieval peasant to have; so, mostly farming, hunting, making and mending simple clothing, shoes, and blankets, some house building/repair, and other various jobs she's had throughout the many years, such as working at a tavern. For a long time she did purposely avoid taking any kind of high skill work; not out of laziness or a thought that she couldn't, but out of a desire to maintain a low profile and not encourage any nobles to try to interact with her. However, in more recent years, out of guilt and a desire to be more helpful to others, she has learned basic medicine making and wound care. (It's also worth noting that healing in her world is mostly done with magic, so non-magic healing is not a very robust practice, mainly focusing on just stabilizing a patient until they can be given magic healing.)

  • Knives: First and foremost is of course that, arguably, Ysersya never faced proper justice for the crimes she committed, and the deaths of so many people that she either directly killed herself or were killed by the forces she was leading.
    • The powerful artifact that the Xiomahr clan leader used on Ysersya still holds her old magic power, and he still keeps it hidden away as one of his more significant potential assets. If unsealed, it would return Ysersya to her former full magic strength. If destroyed, it would ensure she never has magic ability again no matter how long she continues to live. It could also, hypothetically, be used with a special ritual to imbue someone else with the magic power that she used to hold, however it is uncertain who would be able to take in that much power without dying or being driven insane; and if someone was imbued with her power and then died, it's uncertain what would happen after that.
    • Though most people assume Ysersya to be dead after not being seen for over two hundred years, some do suspect that she still lives somewhere. Some of her former followers in particular who were especially fanatic to the cause of killing all humans secretly seek her out to this day, whether to take out their blame against her for losing the war, or to ask her to lead them again to finish what she started long ago.
    • As the two above Knives indicate, Ysersya is not the only person alive to this day who was alive at the time of her war. Since Fallen Ones do not die of old age, plenty of her fellow Fallen Ones from the time are still alive. Though many of the humans of Avalon alive then have died of old age, a few have stayed alive through various magical means; also of course members of other races with extended lifespans such as Elves that were alive then, though the nature of the world meant that not too many were living in Avalon when Ysersya invaded it.
    • As fallen ones take the name of their clan as their last name, Ysersya has not had a real last name for over two hundred years now. The fake last names she's come up with for her cover identities never felt like real names to her, thus making her feel a bit incomplete in her life. It bothered her a lot early in her exile, but it doesn't bother her much anymore after so long.
    • Ysersya has never had a lover, but has left various prospective suitors who fell for her cover identities with broken hearts over the many years. It's possible that at least one could still be searching for her, determined to pledge their undying love to her...

Multiverse Crossover Sign-up

  • Character Name: The Doctor. Not his real name, but it's the one he chose. Goes with John Smith whenever he needs an alias.
  • Appearance: The Doctor, but perhaps not the one you were expecting.
  • Player Name: kkhohoho
  • Home Setting: Doctor Who. The Doctor's universe is expansive and vast, teeming with worlds and civilizations that are constantly changing. Time travel is a common occurrence, altering the universe in ways big and small. But no matter how much it changes, the universe will always be a wonderous place, filled with beauty and adventure around every corner. Even if it can occasionally be dangerous.
  • Backstory: The Doctor has a long and dangerous past, even if much of it isn't known. What is known is that he is a Timelord, a race of immortals that come from the planet Gallifrey. The Timelords are masters of time and keep watch over the time stream, though they're more spectators than participants. The Doctor used to be such a spectator, but after leaving Gallifrey, he has become a participant of the highest order. At first, he was content with discovery and exploration, but has since become a protector of the cosmos. He's become more devoted to defending it than ever, his aimless wanderings taking a backseat to saving the universe.
    • But the invitation from the Stranger was of particular interest. From his experience, a mysterious being calling a band of misfits from across the universe could only mean trouble. He did know of Nights. The center of the Multiverse, a step above Time's Axis in the universal order. But for all he had heard about their mysterious benefactor, there was much he didn't know, and it was his business to know. He had a long list of potential suspects, but the only way to be sure was to go there and see for himself.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Genius Intellect: The Doctor may be not the smartest being in the universe, but he comes close. He's immensely talented and clever, solving equations and theories that would make anyone on Earth scratch their heads. He's an expert on time travel, but is knowledgable in every scientific field and has a wealth of her other talents, thanks to his incredibly long lifespan. But in his Seventh incarnation, he's leaned away from science and technology, focusing more strategy and resourcefulness. His previous selves prided themselves on making things up as they went, but Seven plans everything in advance. Even when he can't, he can often form a plan on the spot, using his foresight and natural deduction to run circles around his enemies. And he has many enemies.
    • Sonic Screwdriver: The Doctor has all sorts of different gadgets lying around, but his Sonic Screwdriver is his most useful. It started as a fancy door handle, unlocking doors and anything else with a lock. But in the last few years, he's begun expanding on it, dramatically increasing its capabilities. In its current state, it can interface with any piece of technology, giving the Doctor limited control of anything in his immediate radius. He can open doors, close doors, shut down computers and networks, cause a glitch in the system and a ghost in the machine and anything else he can think of. It has its limits and can't be used as a weapon, but it's amazingly useful.
    • Low Level Telepathy: As a Timelord, the Doctor has limited mental abilities. He can alter someone's thoughts, but it takes effort and depends on a weak will. The strong the will, the easier they can resist. But even in a best case scenario, about all the Doctor can do is change their mind. If he touches someone, he can do more, even read their thoughts. But it takes even more effort pull off. Most of the Doctor's incarnations only use it when necessary, but the Seventh Doctor is more liberal in its use.
    • Regeneration: The ultimate cheat code. When a Time Lord comes close to death, their body enters a regenerative state, almost like a hard reset. If successful, their body heals itself and they're good as new, but it comes with a cost. Each regeneration changes their appearance and personality, shuffling their thought patterns and creating a new self. Their memories remain the same, but each incarnation brings a different set of skills and an all new perspective to the table.
    • Time Lord Physiology: In terms of physical abilities, Time Lords aren't that different from humans, but they have a few perks. They're more resistant to harm, surviving certain injuries or situations that would kill anyone else. They can take deadly amounts of radiation, though a large enough amount will still kill them. They can place themselves in a meditative trance, lasting without oxygen for long periods of time. They can even emit supersonic screams, though the Doctor has only used this ability once.
  • Knives:
    • The Doctor means well, but he's a Manipulative Bastard of the highest order. He'll use anyone and everyone to get his way, even his closest friends. He has the universe’s best interests in mind, but isn't afraid to play it and everyone in it like a fiddle, and can and will sacrifice a single innocent if it means a million will be saved.
    • On that note, it was those same tendencies that led to the departure of Ace. A spirited and rebellious young girl, Ace travelled with the Doctor for years. They grew very close, but after saving the planet Heaven, they had a nasty falling out. Ace struck out on her own, stealing a time extrapolator from the 26th century and going solo. and Since then, the Doctor's been bumming around with Bernice Summerfield, archaeologist extraordinaire. They've become close friends, but the Doctor dropped her off on a lengthy expedition while he travelled to Nights. But he knows Ace is out there somewhere, and it’s only a matter of time until he finds her.
    • During his departure from Gallifrey, the Doctor stole the Hand of Omega, a device that could turn any star or sun supernova. It was used to give Gallifrians control over time, but in the wrong hands, it could be a deadly weapon. The Doctor took it to keep it safe, but after leaving it on Earth, the Daleks eventually came for it. One of the Doctor's greatest enemies, the Daleks are a race of xenophobic mutants, hellbent on destroying anything that isn't Dalek. They sought to use the Hand for their ends, but the Doctor set them up, reverse-engineering the hand to destroy the Daleks and their homeworld with them. He sent it back to Gallifrey, now more certain of its safety. But during his last visit to Gallifrey, he was told they never received the Hand. The Doctor isn't sure what happened to it, but if he doesn't find it, someone else will. And the results could be catastrophic.
    • The Daleks may be the Doctor's worst enemy, but he has many deadly adversaries. Chief among them is the Master. A fellow Timelord, he was once a dear friend, but has become a dangerous foe. He has sought to conquer the universe as often as the Doctor's saved it, and has become more destructive and unhinged with each encounter. After their last meeting, the Doctor thought the Master dead, left to burn on an alien world as it turned to ash. But lately, he's heard rumours to the contrary. The Master may be alive, and he wants to find him if he is. Both as a favour to an old friend and to keep him from causing more trouble.

This seems interesting. Going to assume that entirely original characters, as in no prior RP ties or anything (but some established lore) are a no-go? If so, I may have an established media character in mind. If not, it's my immortal ninja cat burglar (see icon).

(fyi that media character is MCU Scott Lang, or at least a very close version that more-or-less lines up with him where it matters because I'm not watching like twenty movies again and the MCU wiki page for him is a small novel.)

Yeah fully-original characters who haven't been on an RP on the site before aren't allowed.

Alright so, I know there's a few folks who've gotten into contact who are still preparing characters so we won't be starting just yet but I want to confirm that everyone who's gotten a sheet in already have been accepted and I'm sending out the invitations to the Discord server. Signups will be remaining open for the foreseeable future for both the stragglers and anyone else who wants in.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Alright!

Character Name: Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man

Appearance: With suit. Without suit.

Player Name: Chortleous

Home Setting: The MCU, a superhero universe roughly in-line with the real world in terms of culture and general tech level, but wildly different in many other key ways, namely its recent history which has seen numerous thwarted alien invasions and a cataclysmic event known as The Blip, where half of all life was wiped from existence by the genocidal warlord Thanos and restored five years later by the work of the Avengers including Scott himself.

Backstory: Scott is an ex-convict sentenced to prison for stealing from and attempting to expose his employer Vistacorp after discovering they'd been guilty of defrauding their customers. During his incarceration, his wife Maggie (with whom he'd had a daughter named Cassie) filed for divorce, and after release, Scott struggled to make child support payments and soon resorted to theft. Eventually, he was chosen by former SHIELD consultant Hank Pym to take up the suit & mantle of Ant-Man and help foil the plans of Hank's former associate Darren Cross, who'd managed to reverse engineer his Pym Particles, a subatomic particle that allows its user to radically alter their own size and mass. Afterwards, Scott went on to join the Avengers and many adventures ensued... leading up to the present day, where only a few months after saving the universe twice over, Scott finds himself visited by a mysterious man and invited to a weird restaurant called Nights.

Skills and Abilities:

1. An expert thief who's nowhere near as dumb as he often comes off, Scott specializes in breaking into homes and places of business, aided in no small part by his education (Masters!) in electrical engineering and familiarity with computer systems, as well as a not-insignificant knowledge of chemistry insofar as it involves opening things he shouldn't be opening.

2. Physically fit and adept at acrobatics including freerunning, and skilled in hand-to-hand combat utilizing a smattering of martial arts as well as liberal use of his size-changing abilities.

3. The Ant-Man suit grants him the ability to instantly shrink down to the size of an ant while retaining his durability and human strength; it also allows him to grow many times his normal size in a pinch, though this latter ability is physically taxing and can only be maintained for brief periods, putting him out of commission for a while afterwards. It should go without saying how useful this might be in investigations. The suit also includes a set of discs that, when thrown, will grow or shrink a target.

4. The suit has an oxygen supply, allowing him to breathe underwater or in other hostile environments for a limited period.

5. The suit also grants him the ability to command ants via an inbuilt electromagnetic communication device.

Knives:

1. Prone to doing 'the wrong thing for the right reasons'. Strong convictions despite his criminal past; it was these convictions that lead to him becoming a criminal in the first place.

2. Love for his daughter Cassie and a desire to prove himself to her, and become the person she already thinks he is.

3. Somewhat unknown to the general public in spite of being a superhero; though not exactly a raging narcissist, it does annoy him to no end, especially when he's contrasted with his more famous allies.

4. Comes off like something of a dumbass, acting immature and nonchalant at times, though generally knows when to get serious about things. Underestimating him because of this would be unwise.

5. Prior to his arrest and subsequent donning of the mantle of Ant-Man, Scott was by all accounts a fairly normal person with little experience in the fantastical, which still leaves him as somewhat of a fish-out-of-water in many regards.

Home Setting: The Digital World is a pretty decent and hospitable place, though not everyone acts charming or civil. Some act like animals, while others are generally helpful. And others can just be basic jerks. So a lot like human society, but with a few more violent Mons. Evolution is something important to the world, as ones can evolve through battle or to basically survive various things. You can find many places like Hot Springs, Shops, Restaurants, etc. there.
Backstory: Tyro is originally a Goblimon who was among the tons of civil Digimon, generally happy to play around, once in a while being a little jokey. As he grew older, and eventually into an Ogremon, he started to drop his jokey habits and took things more seriously. Including making a good life for himself. He lives in polite society, often wearing a nice suit. As he evolved again into Metaltyrannomon... the suit option no longer worked, but it didn't stop his mannerisms. Tyro just no longer could sip tea, much to his chagrin. This doesn't seem so bad otherwise, until Yggdrassil went nuts and tried to overtake the world with a powerful virus. Many of his friends were lost to it, but he was able to evolve once more into his X-Antibody form, gaining new abilities, opposable thumbs, and could decently wear a bit of a suit again. Standing up on your forelegs help. Eventually, the world itself was in peril, and as a pacifist, he felt it better to flee, leading to this world. That's where he met the mysterious stranger. Tyro is polite and open about what he can do, not really up for hiding things. He has no skeletons in his closet, though technically he could evolve into one if combined with a Devimon(one of his old friends. Who's surprisingly pretty regal. Then again, he wasn't sure if he was evil or not. Name suggested it, but...)
Skills and Abilities: Tyro doesn't have much for actual combat abilities of use. He's able to easily create Fire from one hand, shoot off excess energy, or fire a missile from another hand. However, he's an excellent cook to begin with and is always polite, having lots of charm. He's also a lot smaller than the normal species, only coming up to 8 feet, compared to the usual 20ish feet, making him a lot less terrifying. Unfortunately, he cannot do anything about that dino head of his. He besides that has a strong sense of smell. He's not too bad at diplomacy either.
Knives:

  • He has many friends from the Digital World(Goblimon group, Ogremon group, Devimon), of which he is unsure of whom has survived.
  • Yggdrassil is a mass murder of many of his kind, friends or foe. Tyro is glad to be out of that world, despite having hangups of leaving it behind at the horrible one's mercy. This still eats at him for days on end.
  • His abilities and appearance have caused him some grief, as some think he's feral or likes to cause fires due to his abilities. Despite being anything but violent.
  • Tyro has seen many Mega level Digimon, and thus fears evolving again that it could affect his personality(specifically one Digimon he's seen before).

Character Name: Benjamin Kirby "Ben" Tennyson.

Player Name: Jherhmeigringer

Home Setting: Ben 10 universe [1]

Backstory:

  • It started when an alien device did what it did. And stuck itself upon his wrist with secrets that it hid. Now he's got superpowers, he's no ordinary kid. He's Ben 10.
  • After obtaining the omnitrix in that road trip through U.S.A Ben went into many adventures involving delinquents, alien warlords and general weirdness.
  • It all would culminate in facing his most dangerous adversary yet Maltruant an evil chronosapien who planned to recreate the universe on his own image and with his time powers he was really close to succeding.
  • Thankfully Ben was able to defeat him trapping Maltruant into a time paradox where he is forever destined to lose and so Ben (from the safety of a ship inhabited by 5th dimentional beings) witnessed the creation of his universe a second time.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Omnitrix[2]: An alien device with the shape of a watch. While it has many functions the main use of this device is allowing ben to walk a mile on any alien species shoes, literally.

  • Photographic memory: Ben has an extraordinarily sharp memory, as he was perfectly capable of remembering and writing down the mystic rune-like symbols for entering the inter-dimensional realm of Legerdomain with just one glance from a distance.

  • Hand to hand combat: While his main method of defence is transforming into an alien, Ben is no stranger to close combat even being taught by his cousin Gwen.

  • Skurd[3]: A Slimebiote that feeds on dna and its able to replicate it. When attached to the Omnitrix its able to replicate parts of the aliens on itself, Ben or his transformations generaly taking the form of tools.

Knives:

  • While Maltruant was ultimately defeated. Ben most notorious enemy Vilgax is still there and wants Ben dead.

  • The omnitrix is often seeked by less friendly folk who will do anything to get their hands on it.

  • As a hero. Ben doesnt give up in doing the rigth thing. However when he does fail to save someone he gets angry and much more violent.

  • He's no stranger to the concept of a multiverse having seen multiverse versions of himself.

  • Character Name: Maaris [1]
  • Player Name: Blitztrain
  • Home Setting: Astratamere is a fantasy world filled monsters, magic, and adventurers of many races come together in search of gold and glory. It is also a world where those who find ways to break the intended laws of the universe are rewarded with the ability to keep exploiting their discoveries like a glitchy superpower while the rest of the world is fixed to prevent anyone else from copying that feat, needless to say several things are odd or just plain "off" about this place.
  • Backstory:
    • In life Maaris was a student of a college of little renown, seeking a stable but otherwise unremarkable career while trying to stay out of trouble. In death, Maaris found herself reborn in an unfamiliar body and locked in prison with no explanation along with a handful of other recently deceased souls.
    • The group was able to escape in the confusion of an attack on the city by mysterious mechanical forces, barely reaching the wilderness before the city was reduced to a glassy crater. With no direction to go on besides a vague sense of plot significance they followed the road until reaching another town, but now that the immediate danger was gone the group found itself caught up in debate over what to do now, where to go next, and even whether any of this was real. Frustrated with their inability to make a group decision, Maaris explores the town on her own until she receives her invitation to Nights.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Maaris was reincarnated into a world where violence solves most problems and has been given brawling and grappling skills to hold her own in a fight even without weapons.
    • As a fantasy gel person Maaris can manipulate her body with some concentration and pass through bars and grates most people find impassible, she is also able to store items in her body safely aside from the risk of getting them wet.
    • While her unusual body isn't much harder to damage than others the ability to regenerate and a lack of vital organs makes Maaris annoyingly hard to kill even when incapacitated.
    • Is naturally curious and pretty skilled with computers due to her hobbies in her past life, and she's not afraid to ask questions of how and why the world works the way it does even if those answers are typically too big for a person to grasp effectively.
  • Knives:
    • Maaris only spent a few days in Astratamere after her death in a bizarre bus accident and is still trying to figure out what she can do with her new body, perhaps travelling the multiverse will help her discover new uses for her natural skills... Or maybe she'll turn out to be a klutz when not in a universe with RPG-like influences.
    • After dying once Maaris is not sure what she wants out of life anymore, she is somewhat afraid of reverting to her old quiet loner self and may act recklessly in an effort to overcompensate, particularly since her regeneration means personal injury is more of an unpleasant but temporary inconvenience.
    • Astratamere is a mystery that Maaris still plans to solve one day. Her biggest questions so far involve the giant beam of light that vaporized the city she woke up in, why she found herself in Astratamere in the first place, and just what kind of connection it has to her home.

  • Name: Shinobu Kocho
  • Player Name: Ferg
  • Home Setting: Demon Slayer. Set in the Roaring Twenties in Japan (there known better as "Taisho"); the unofficial paramilitary organization known as the Demon Slayer Corps battles the man-eating predators of the night without the populous at large the wiser.
  • Appearance: 4'11 (and a half). Shinobu maintains a pleasant smile and an airy voice at all times, even when in the middle of slaughtering her prey. It gets a little disconcerting, especially when combined with her dull, one-tone eyes. They're not immediately visible, but due to a rare condition her eyes have a strange compound-like effect to them, almost as if they belonged on an insect instead.
  • Backstory:
    • Her ordinary life with her parents and her older sister Kanae was not meant to be. In a tragedy like many others across the Japanese countryside, a demon intruded upon their household and slaughtered her parents in front of the sisters' eyes. Before they could share the fate of their mother and father, a Demon Slayer came to their rescue. Ironically, most Demon Slayers joined the Corps due to having lost someone dear to them; that day, two more filled their ranks.
    • Unlike her easygoing older sister, Shinobu was blunt, aggressive, and direct - a sharp contrast. Yet, as she suddenly lost even Kanae by the hands of a powerful demon, she found herself adopting a lot of her mannerisms; blunting her emotions and becoming a new person entirely. Not just for her own sake, but also for her student - a young slave girl named Kanao - and for the countless Demon Slayers she would tend to as the new master of the Butterfly Estate, the Corps' unofficial hospital.
    • Eventually, she joined the prestigious ranks of Pillars; the mightiest warriors the Corps had to offer. And yet, she found herself struggling, thinking that she only got to join on a technicality (as her sister was previously a Pillar). How could someone so physically weak like herself even dream of defeating the demon elites waiting in the wings? Eventually, she found a way for herself; the wisteria flowers, normally mere repellent against the demonkind, she would reforge into poison - and go on to kill countless cocky demons that way, ravaged from the inside out by a butterfly kiss.
    • Unlike most, she’s not aware of what Nights is; the letter of invitation she received from the corpse of a demon who, in turn, got it from a hapless victim of its rampage. Demons generally did not resort to petty theft, so it could be surmised the letter was important – and if something was important to the demonkind, then Demon Slayer Corps needed to know it too. Thus Shinobu set out to investigate this strange bar with an English name...
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Breath of Insects – Breathing is a general term for a technique Demon Slayers use to contend with their superhuman enemies; by boosting their air regulation, they can become faster, tougher, and stronger. Breaths come in varieties, which can be then expanded into new styles entirely; Shinobu’s accommodates her low physical strength by focusing chiefly on blistering fast offensive and evasion. Not unlike the insects, she zips around with uncanny agility (almost flying, though it’s more like gliding), looking for a perfect opportunity to slip through the cracks and deliver a single, fight-ending stab. Plus, passively, having a greater lung capacity helps with dealing with thin oxygen, holding breath underwater, or gaseous substances better.
    • Nichirin Stinger – A customized katana focused entirely on delivering its poisonous payload rather than trying to defeat her opponent with brute force. As most of the blade was dismantled, it’s next-to-useless for cutting and generally doesn’t do well with blocking attacks (though it’s possible) – its main purpose is to inject wisteria poison (or any other poison, seeing as wisteria is a very… regional weakness) into the body of the offending party. The scabbard of the sword was also customized to allow for mixing of the poisons.
    • Hello, Nurse! - Shinobu isn’t just an accomplished Demon Slayer; she possesses ever-vital knowledge of medicine and chemistry. That’s useful for not just fabricating poisons, but also for mending wounds, setting up broken bones, or identifying causes of death, among other things. (Mind you: health procedure standards for the 1920’s might vary) She also brews mean green tea.
  • Knives:
    • She puts on an airy, easy-going facade, but there’s a tense undercurrent about her. Sometimes makes her come off as really passive-aggressive if she lets it slip – and she’s been bottling a lot of anger ever since her sister died.
    • The killer of her sister is an elite demon from the top of the mountain; the so-called Upper Moons, responding directly to the demon progenitor. Douma is a very cheery sociopath on a good day, and also Upper Moon Two, making him the third most powerful demon to walk the earth (besides Upper Moon One and the progenitor himself).
    • Sometimes, Shinobu can be observed looking groggy or nauseous, even to a point where it might affect her balance. The reasons for that are unknown, but she can assure you she’s not sick.

Well, as much as I'd love to have brought to the table Dexter Morgan, Lieutenant Columbo or hell, even Jacques Clouseau, I'm afraid there's but one fictional detective I feel confident enough in playing as. Hope this signup works- if too much of it is OP, well, I got it straight from the wiki but I'll be happy to tone it down. (I was halfway tempted to add The Car, but that'd be a bit too much work and besides, how would he bring it with him?

  • Character Name: Batman, aka Bruce Wayne
  • Player Name: Lizard of Aus
  • Home Setting: The Arkhamverse, a world with science and technology in advance of our own, maybe even decades in advance, and absolutely no shortage of superhuman beings. While there are rumblings of flying aliens and men running at light speed in the world, within the context of the grim, gritty and crime-ridden Gotham City, the criminals are largely human, albeit occasionally armed with high tech robotics or cryogenics. However, there are plenty of criminals enhanced and altered at a biochemical level, such as the giant man turning into a crocodile, the woman who can control giant plants, the shapeshifting mutant made out of clay, or the warlord with an honest-to-god fountain of youth.
  • Backstory:
    • At the tender age of eight, Bruce Wayne witnessed his parents being shot to death by a mugger in an alleyway, and his world was never the same again. As the boy grew into a man, he dedicated every waking moment to training his mind and body to the pinnacle of human perfection. He studied countless disciplines, among them criminal psychology, invention, disguise, escape arts, tracking and yes, many detective techniques. He learned martial arts from a worldwide League of Assassins, mastering the arts and surpassing the best of his fellow students. When at last he returned to Gotham City, inheriting the Wayne fortune and his position at his family’s company, Wayne Enterprises, he also took to the mean streets to uphold the law, striking terror with a costume patterned after his childhood fear- the bat.
    • For the next decade, Batman would bring the criminal underbelly to heel in the city he called his home. The first couple of years he was on rough terms with the police department, but soon enough he earned himself a friend on the force in Commissioner James Gordon. He made many other friends and partners on the job too, taking in an absolute plethora of sidekicks over the years, and through thick and thin, his old retainer, valet and legal guardian Alfred Pennyworth was never far behind. But for every ally he made, Batman earned more than his share of enemies, and the gimmicks only got stranger over the years, while the challenges grew stronger and the nights got busier. One of the busiest was in his eleventh July on the job, when he was trapped in the very asylum where several of his most formidable foes were imprisoned and waiting for him. A year after that, in late December, he was likewise trapped in a penal colony established in the slums of Gotham, and before the night was over, Batman had both an old flame and his sworn enemy die in his arms within minutes of each other.
    • The experience took its toll on the Caped Crusader, and he retreated emotionally from his closest allies, turning more and more brutal in combat with criminals. It was during this time that Batman first encountered the mysterious Stranger and was invited to a world beyond his own. Batman declined the offer- he wasn’t ready to abandon his vigil over Gotham just yet, so instead, he was left with the key and a warning: that someday and soon, he would have to have a place to go where nobody knew his name. On Halloween night, that prediction came to pass. The criminal mastermind known as the Scarecrow held the entire city in the grip of terror through a hired militia and a great fog of fear-inducing toxin. Batman gave the fight of his life to save Gotham’s soul, but when two of his allies were held hostage, he was forced to let himself be unmasked on live television. Ultimately Scarecrow snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and was taken into custody, but the damage had been done. Before rounding up the last supervillains running loose in the city, Batman instructed Alfred to prepare the Knightfall Protocol. Once Gotham’s affairs were in order, a maskless Batman entered Wayne Manor for the last time. Then suddenly, in front of a crowd of reporters, a fiery explosion rocked the hall, and Wayne Manor collapsed in on itself, killing Bruce Wayne and his faithful valet…or so it seemed.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Cover Identity: When not leaping over rooftops in a batsuit, Batman formerly lived the daytime life of Bruce Wayne, millionaire playboy and heir to a multinational corporation. This identity is now defunct in his homeworld, but in other realities, Batman might still use this face for the connections and resources being the head of a modest tech-manufacturing business could provide. Depending on the situation though, he might break out some other civilian disguise- maybe job-seeking vagrant Gaff Morgan or streetwise mobster “Matches” Malone.
    • Body: Through a lifetime of intense training and a strict nutritional diet, Batman conditioned his body to the peak of human perfection. He has almost the strength of ten men, enough to punch an armoured SWAT officer through a brick wall, olympian level speed and acrobatic agility, and exceptional muscle and bone durability, enhanced by his armour to the point where he can take gunshot and puncture wounds and still stay on his feet. His five senses are finely honed, his stamina and lung capacity can last him for hours without showing fatigue, his reflexes can let him catch an arrow from the air and dodge point-blank gunfire with ease, while his healing factor recovers all but the most serious injuries in hours, days or weeks, and is quick to develop resistance to new toxins.
      • As to his physical skills, his acrobatic skills incorporate Parkour and Freerunning to let him cross rooftops with ease. His sabbatical to the Far East in his youth let him study ten different martial arts and fuse them into a fighting style entirely his own, making him an army unto himself on the field. Studying at the knee of a ninja sensei also helped him to master the arts of stealth, escapology, infiltration, sabotage and espionage. His mastery of marksmanship lets him throw projectiles with pinpoint accuracy, and his skill with a sword isn’t so bad either.
    • Mind: Batman’s mind has likewise been trained over the years to reach a prodigious intellect (though a natural aptitude helped). He can learn in weeks what takes many people years, can multi-task to extreme degrees, has near-perfect recall and photographic memory. He is also a great tactician and strategist, often using his environment to his advantage and using trickery to end a fight before it begins. He has studied every known field of science, though shows particular skill in applied science, and more than a knack for invention when creating gadgets and gizmos to help him in the field. His mastery of Physical Sciences has also let him subdue foes with little permanent damage, and deliver on-the-spot first aid to his allies. When pairing sensory equipment with his skill in criminology and forensic scientists, Batman earned himself the unofficial title of the World’s Greatest Detective (let’s see if he can maintain that rep in other worlds…) Other talents include multilingualism, tracking, interrogation and computer expertise, but above all else, his indomitable willpower, honed through years of intense meditation, is what has enabled him to continue his crusade against the greatest horrors the Gotham underbelly has to offer.
    • Batsuit: The Batman’s costume isn’t just for show- the latest model is made from a titanium-dipped tri-weave kevlar fibre mesh, with two layers separated by an MR-fluid based liquid armour that hardens in response to impacts, granting superior shock absorption, greater power to counterattacks, and enough flexibility to let him move at his fastest in a combat situation. However, aside from the ceramic plates on the chest, the armour only provides moderate protection from bullets, merely able to compress the wound to stop the bleeding after the fact.
      • The gloves are ballistic combat gloves made of brass and kevlar with reinforced knuckles and have custom bladed fins in the gauntlets to counter slashing weapons. Inside the left gauntlet is a mini-computer remotely linked to the Batcomputer back at Batman’s home base. It can project a holographic screen that allows webcam communication to allies, call up files and maps, and remote control designated vehicles
      • The cape is a memory cloth that becomes rigid when an electrical current runs through it, letting Batman glide over long distances. It is also waterproof and fireproof, and its winged tips can disorient those the cape is swished over in close range combat.
      • Detective Mode: The most useful weapon in his arsenal. In addition to being armoured and having an eavesdropping device in one ear, Batman’s cowl is equipped with a computer-enhanced vision that when toggled, lets him see through walls and different layers of human bodies around him (usually seeing right down to the bone), even able to identify what weapons they wield, as well as their heart rate and current emotional state. Through its link to the Batcomputer, this vision can scan environmental clues, using multiple filters for detecting trace elements (ie breath particles and tobacco traces), and generate computer models to reconstruct previous events; perfect for setting up a crime scene. It even has a Deep Tissue Scanner for scanning out-of-place markers on cadavers that are otherwise unidentifiable. However, with the right means, this function can be tracked when in use, blocked by jammers, or stymied by Optic Deflection. Ultimately, the mode’s functional use is dependent on the Batcomputer, and when the link goes down, Detective Mode is unusable.
    • Gadgetry: The resources afforded by his old company let Batman craft many tools to combat crime, and he’s trained in the use of every one of them. Most of the gadgets are contained in the utility belt around his waist.
      • Batarang: Bat-shaped shurikens of nearly inexhaustible supply. Useful for stunning targets or hitting buttons at long range.
      • Sonic Batarang: Lets out a high pitched whine to draw the attention of targets, and then remotely detonated to knock said targets out. Unfortunately, the feedback this explosion creates means it can’t be used in the same room twice.
      • Remote Control Batarang: Can be controlled in mid-flight to go in any direction, with even adjustable speeds. When passing through an electric current, it retains the charge for the rest of the flight. Pre-programmed Reverse Batarangs can loop back on a dime to strike enemies from behind.
      • Batclaw: Grapple device for pulling down vents and weak walls, or disarming thugs in combat.
      • Smoke Pellet: For distracting enemies or making a hasty exit
      • Grapple Gun: Magnetic grappling hook used to rappel to high vantage points at terrific speed. With its latest upgrades and the g-force resistance in his suit, Batman can catapult himself several meters into the air.
      • Disruptor: A collapsible rifle-shaped device that fires electrical impulses that can incapacitate foes or sabotage weapons and equipment. It can fire up to four bursts before it needs to recharge.
      • Remote Electrical Charge: A gun-like device that sets off high-voltage discharges, ideal for knocking out armoured or monstrously brutish enemies. The REC is also useful for activating or disabling generators and other large electrical devices.
      • Freeze Blast: Utilising cryo-tech from an old enemy, these grenades can encase an enemy in ice just enough to immobilise them, or to plug up a steam vent long enough to get by. This can be upgraded into a Freeze Cluster Grenade to freeze a small group of targets, holding them in place until knocked loose.
      • Line Launcher: An alternative for the Grapple Gun that shoots both ends of a line at once, letting Batman rappel between two horizontal points. It can even be retracted and redeployed in quick succession, letting him change direction without letting his feet hit the ground.
      • Remote Hacking Device: A handheld device hacking consoles and descrambling security codes. Can hack and control drones, or remotely trigger computerised objects and traps.
      • Voice Synthesiser: A pistol-sized scanner that can upload snippets of audio which can then be calibrated to give text-to-speech recreations of a person’s voice. Can be used to manipulate henchmen or bypass voice-activated systems.
  • Knives:
    • Despite all these statistics making him out to be a perfect human being, Batman is a fundamentally broken individual. Thanks to his traumatic beginning, the man has trust issues that run deeper than any ocean. Despite the large crew of friends and allies he’s accrued over the years, many of which he deeply cares for and regards as family, Batman has all too often chosen to go it alone, and risk his own life rather than let anybody else get in harm’s way by helping him.
    • In addition, the man is not only obsessed with his mission of personally warring on crime but an absolute drama queen about it. It’s telling that his life and personality as Bruce Wayne is all an act, and he identifies far more with the ‘Batman’ identity he crafted for himself in later life, placing almost mythic importance on the symbol of dark justice he supposedly represents. As the years of intense struggle went on, Batman grew ever more ruthless in his pursuit of justice. Yet paradoxically, the man will also bend over backwards to stubbornly refuse to take a life, any life, even if it would save many lives and the legal system apparently won't do its job right. One of the few notable exceptions was very recently when he cut off life-support to a mass-murderous man who’d already died many times over, and even then, he could very easily have made a different choice…
    • Getting back to his allies, his friends and family are probably worth a mention. Alfred Pennyworth, the loyal manservant to the Wayne Family and second father to Bruce, has been there since the beginning and supports him to this day. During his crime-fighting career, Batman also accrued a whole host of sidekicks: Dick Grayson, the cocksure Nightwing who went on to defend Bludhaven city, Barbara Gordon, who even when paralysed became the perfect mission control as Oracle, Tim Drake, the hotheaded Red Robin who recently married Oracle, and Jason Todd, the prodigal son presumed dead who now executes criminals as the gun-toting Red Hood. Alfred followed Batman into hiding, but not one of his sidekicks believes their mentor is gone for good. Those who might have been fooled were on the civilian side- Lucius Fox, current CEO and now the sole owner of Wayne Enterprises, Aaron Cash, a respected one-handed officer of the law, and Mayor James Gordon, Oracle’s father and former Police Commissioner who was Batman’s foremost friend on the force. Slightly less close is Selina Kyle, the reluctantly moral cat-burglar Catwoman who was Batman’s on-again-off-again lover, and Michael Lane aka Azrael, the literal Knight Templar brainwashed into being the lethal protector of Gotham, but who may yet have a chance or two for redemption.
    • For every friend he’s made, however, Batman has made many a foe over the years. His rogue’s gallery is so vast and varied, it’d almost be easier to say what supervillains he HASN’T faced over the years. Those currently known to be imprisoned include the Scarecrow, Harley Quinn, Hush, the Penguin, Two-Face, Deacon Blackfire, Firefly, Professor Pyg, Simon Stagg, Deathstroke, the man who was the Man-Bat, the Mad Hatter and Killer Croc. Of the rest, well…Poison Ivy is dead, Ra’s al Ghul is dying a final death, Nyssa Raatko is moving the League of Shadows in a new direction, Black Mask might be dead though then again the guy going out the window was wearing a mask, Calendar Man is still at large, the Bride of Man-Bat might well be alive and mutated, and Mister Freeze has sailed off with his unfrozen wife to an uncertain future. One who’s not only long dead but cremated is the Joker, the Clown Prince of Crime who needs no introduction. He’s certainly gone…at least, for the most part.
    • You see, the Joker was already dying thanks to getting an experimental formula in his system that gave him a blood-borne disease. Before succumbing, he hatched a plan to spread samples of his blood to emergency rooms citywide, and even give Batman himself a ‘donation’. Batman managed to cure himself and halt most of the transfusions, but this was far from the end of it. A few patients slipped through the net, and the toxic blood began to change them, make them look and act like new Jokers, each mimicking aspects of the maniac but never the whole (all four subjects were later killed off, BTW). Batman knew Joker better than anyone, and after getting a taste of Scarecrow’s fear toxin, this knowledge manifested a split personality that haunted him like a ghost of the real thing, twisting his perception, threatening to possess him entirely. The more toxin he ingested, the more Batman’s fear of becoming the Joker became a self-fulfilling prophecy. But just as the Joker persona took full control of his body, the Scarecrow unknowingly dosed ‘Joker’ and thrust him into his own worst fear: being destroyed and forgotten. Batman took back control and booted the Joker deep into the depths of his unconscious mind. With that, Batman conquered his fears and the toxin had no more effect. All the same…that Joker is still in there, somewhere. Locked in the back of his mind, clinging to ‘life’, like a song that gets stuck in your head…

However, this kindled friendship was interrupted by the Head of the city who decided that their presence is a nuisance to their city and banished the Library along with its occupants to the wastes beyond the city's outskirts, where they're content to spend their life in exile. However, the sudden appearance of a mysterious invitation prompted Roland to investigate on behalf of the library.

Knives:

  • After his wife's death, he went on a rampage and killed several criminal syndicates and suspicious individuals, taking on the mantle of his deceased wife as the Color Fixer known as the Black Silence in an attempt to find the one who caused the Distortion that killed his wife. Even after the rampage has subsided, many still fear him and just as many hold a grudge against him even if he hid under a mask.
  • After the banishment, he plans on writing a book on the experiences he had as a Fixer, of the City, and its inhabitants.
  • Roland's residence before his travel into Nights is that of the Library, a construct manifested from Angela's psyche, which she is the director of. The Library consists of 10 floors that each represents a topic lead by a Patron Librarian that is helped by several assistant Librarians. Of the floors, he is the Patron Librarian of the Floor of General Works, the 10th floor at the top of the Library.

  • His experience in the Library fighting unique guests ranging from criminals to unique Distortions has somewhat numbed him to the appearance of strange events or creatures, for better or worse.
  • While he adopts a sarcastic and easygoing demeanor, he still holds a somewhat cynical disposition even after his experiences that led him to let go of his revenge scheme against Angela.
