X-Men '97 (Disney +): Continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series

I'm wondering if it's going to be a fully 3D series,a hybrid of both,or 2D,they obviously won't have the same style as the 97 series

It's mostly likely a 2D series. We actually have a look at the series' art style, plus one of the animation supervisors is Jeremey Polgar (Motorcity), who's primarily a 2D artist.

Dang and Motorcity had some fantastic animation.

I have never watched the original series nor have I followed the X-Men comics in general. I really hope this doesn't solely pander to nostalgia.

That show is good and good for you.

I do hope we get some modernized designs.

Never was a fan of Cyclops yellow trunks look.

This costume could look pretty good.

I think that was from one of the X-Men movies? I know movie superheroes wear black is a trope.

I think that was more about Wolverine's costume than Scott's trunks though.

Yeah that line was in reference to Wolverine getting his black uniform and when he questioned it so Scott snarked the line

I love the Jim Lee Cyclops outfit. It's so 90s in just the best way possible.

Curious to see who Alyson Court will voice in this, given she's previously stated that she would gladly return to the early 90s X-Men series if the role of Jubilee was given to an Asian actress instead of herself.

Huh I just now remembered Ultimate Alliance 3 has the Jim Lee outfit without the trunks

I wonder if they'll introduce newer mutants like X-23.

I also wonder if Rogue's VA will return, isn't she a politician these days?

Yep. She hasn't worked as an actress for more than a decade, and has been a politician in Canada for a good while. Doubt she'd want to voice act on a major role again anytime soon.

Wonder how much things will change in-show, given the 20+ years that have passed, and all the source material and adaptations since then. Anything they are likely to adapt?

I didn't know Lenore Zann (who was also the dub voice of Roll in Megaman NT Warrior) was a politician now. That being said:

She's on the list in the opening post, so I'm assuming she's back somehow.

She was also Aisha in Outlaw Star. Anyway, great to hear she's back.

Oof, the nostalgia train just hit me like, well, a train.

As mentioned before the probably coolest thing about this announcement is that it appears that Marvel seems to be branching out its adaptations to not be so MCU-centric to a degree.

Makes sense in X-Men's case at least. They obviously wanna do stuff with them but they can't just wait until they are officially introduced in the MCU thats gonna take years.

I hope they go for Fatal Attractions, The Twelve, Search For Cyclops, and then be wise enough to end on the climax of the Legacy virus arc, since that's largely considered the end of the 90s era. I also hope we get to see Generation X storylines

Because, for whatever reason, TAS has always been the most popular X-Men cartoon. I admit to loving TAS as a kid but as an adult, I think it's plainly obvious X-Men Evolution was a better show in every conceivable way. It also didn't go out on a wet fart of a season that not even fans enjoyed like TAS did with Season 5. No, Evo left us with a ton of potential for more storylines and the finale ruled so we wanted more of those storylines.

Whatever. Maybe someday.

Part of it was timing. X-Men TAS came in right when the franchise was riding high, and the TV show was perfectly tied into the appearance of the characters in video games, merchandising, and so on. Starting a year after the best selling comic issue of all time (X-Men #1) not only got comic fans watching it, but also allowed it to be the perfect gateway series to newcomers who were curious about these X-Men they kept seeing.

Evolution was a solid show, but one that kicked off years after the comic book crash, started the same time the X-Men movies were the major thing in the media zeitgeist, & now had a previous popular X-Men series to compare to (which TAS didn't really have). It's not unlike how The Batman often got overlooked because of the shadow that Batman:TAS cast.
