I don't get it. The guy in the back is being unintelligible, and the guy in the front has his mind wander and think of birds, or something? I'm not familiar with anyone or anything called "sherby" either.
The current isn't great but it's clearer than the suggestion.

Yeah, the bird thing is random without context, but why would he think of the word "Sherby?" outta nowhere? He must've misheard the other dude.

My main issue is that it's too small and the visuals don't add as much as they seem to do for this image.

The suggestion is more concise. The current doesn't work as well if you're not familiar with the Pledge of Allegiance and have to read the caption to get the joke (like me, a non-American), while the suggestion has both the misheard source and the misinterpreted version in the image.
