Character-Specific Pages (CSPs) are created when individual characters have so many trope examples that they can't reasonably be included on a shared page.
The Administrivia Character-Specific Pages policy details the rules that apply to these pages. All Character-Specific Pages must also follow the basic How to Create a Character Page policy, as well as the wiki's more general policies about spoilers and examples.
This cleanup thread handles the following tasks:
- Reviewing and approving new CSP proposals. All new potential CSPs must be reviewed and, if necessary, cleaned up before they're created.
- Agreeing on page names for new CSPs.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a new CSP is created.
- Reviewing existing CSPs if there's a concern that they need cleanup, or if it's believed that the character may no longer qualify for a page.
- Merging existing CSPs into other character pages when necessary.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a CSP is removed/merged.
- Creating, updating and cutting redirects, as necessary, to reflect these splits and merges.
Crowners are not normally required but, where appropriate, can be used to formalise decisions on any of these points.
If a character no longer qualifies for a CSP, it's often more practical to turn the CSP into a redirect than to cut the page entirely. This keeps the page history visible to users, and also helps to steer offsite 'inbound' traffic (search engine results) to the right place. With that in mind, cut requests for CSPs may be declined and referred to this thread if they don't have a clear consensus.
Comments linking back to this thread can be added to CSPs when needed - e.g. to confirm their creation was approved, to warn tropers that a cleanup is in progress, or to note the date and outcome of a more recent review.
We also have some more general threads for character page help -
- Character Page Cleanup: for trope misuse, zero-context examples, spoiler tagging issues etc.
- Are these character tropes?: for queries about whether particular tropes belong on a character page or on the work's page.
This is not a policy discussion thread, it's a cleanup thread — any requests for policy changes need to be raised in Wiki Talk.
Mod update 07 Mar 2024, reflecting new CSP policy, updated again 22 Mar 2024 to mention redirects for removed CSPs
- Other options must have been tried first, like splitting pages into further groups.
- The character's folder is cleaned up beforehand, fixing any Zero-Context Examples and Wall of Text entries and removing any outdated, misused, or non-character tropes.
- A character's folder is at least 6,000 words/40,000 characters (with spaces). Here is a byte counter.note
- The current character page bypasses technical limitations and requires a split up.
- A single character takes up the majority of a page or is disproportionately bigger than other folders.
Splitting a character into their own page is a major change and needs to be run by the community before it is enacted. Even if you believe a character meets these requirements, they should be run through this thread first. Having other tropers take a look can help spot issues you may not notice or believe to be issues.
Per How to Create a Character Page, character-specific pages should only include tropes that describe the character. These tropes should fall under Characterization Tropes or one of its related indexes, unless they're recurring character traits (distinctive things that the character does repeatedly). If you're unsure what counts as a character trope, you can ask the Are these Character Tropes? thread.
If you have concerns with a general character page, they have their own separate cleanup thread, as do the self-demonstrating character pages.

It is a little short of the minimum, but the page itself fulfills items 2 and 5 of "at least two" of the prerequisites.
It's not about the gold; it's about the glory.still cleaning up the character pages for Housepets!. King's folder (under Housepets! — Dogs) now has 39,227 bytes and 6000 words, on a page which is otherwise about 80,000 bytes (give or take). Am I cool to make a sandbox and start touching it up? I'm sure I can push it over the edge with a bit of effort.

The page is actually around 95,000 bytes but I think having a section be 40% of the page fits the "proportionally large" aspect needed.
Teen Titans: Original Teen Titans | Batgirl Bette Kane | Teen TitansI’d say hold off for now; the character is under 40,000 bytes and also 80,00 bytes without that character is super light, so from a page bandwidth / technical limitations point of view (which is the main aim of this exercise) there is no need for a split yet.
Alright. What's a good byte count for the rest of the page (separating his) to warrant a split?
Anymore opinions on this?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadThanks - technically, and as per the guidance on the main CSP page, splitting a character off is to remedy when a Character Sheet with multiple characters is getting too large for the wiki, resulting in Overly Long Pages (page alert warnings typically trigger between 300-500k bytes and appear at the top of a page when you go in to edit). However, best practise notes that characters reaching the 40k byte count shouldn't just be considered an automatic split (although that seems to be increasingly common); other options (most importantly, as the guidelines note) must be tried first, like splitting the overly long page into smaller groups. The work page you're talking about here is well under the Overly Long Pages threshold, so a split in this case isn't necessary. Lex.
Edit - Hey Bullman. Similarly to my thoughts above, removing Bellatrix results in a 73k byte page, which (in my view, and seemingly in line with guidance) isn't really necessary technically.

im not sure what 'lex' means, but i get the gist. im gonna keep on editing and ill bring the issue up again if i think the size of the page warrants anything; currently a smidge over 100k bytes. cheers. For what its worth, i hit 40k bytes on King's page a few hours before anyone replied, and the character with the next most is still only 15k bytes.

The following all exist:
- Code Prime Optimus Prime (21,572 bytes)
- Code Prime Lelouchvi Britannia (34,402 bytes)
- Code Prime Kallen Kozuki (12,454 bytes)
- Code Prime Cera (12,888 bytes)
- Code Prime Megatron (45,271 bytes)
- Code Prime Suzaku Kururugi (23,868 bytes)
- Code Prime Euphemiali Britannia (12,021 bytes)
- Code Prime Corneliali Britannia (25,044 bytes)
- Code Prime Shirley Fenette (11,590 bytes)
- Code Prime Nunnally Vi Britannia (8,590 bytes)
All of them beyond Megatron fail to meet the limit. Can I merge them back?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI say go ahead
Character Specific Page cleanupYes, definitely
'Lex' is my name ;)

Okay. I will merge them back as soon as my cold is gone.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadCharacters. The Owl House Emperor Belos is getting massive with 335k bytes. Should it be split off or trimmed?
The 'overly long page' warning doesn't seem to have triggered yet, but saying that I think it'll be soon. I also just skimmed tropes A-C and there are some major issues with Wall of Text throughout — so if you're familiar with the work, trimming is definitely a good plan?
Edited by lexii on Jan 10th 2024 at 5:27:22 PM
Perhaps we could try creating a Sandbox for Belos as we did for AFO?
Is everyone okay with this?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadGo right ahead.
back lolNope and they are both only in the 20,000 bytes range and as such not big enough. Who made them?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadInvite them here and then merge the pages back.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadPaging ~The Dr - please drop by when you can
EDIT - Catwoman and The Penguin merged back into main index, removed links, and added to cut list.

Characters.Super Mario Bros The Princesses got Rosalina added to it without prior input. Only wanna point this out because there’s a long-standing debate over whether or not she’s a Princess (which I’m sure she technically isn’t. She’s more of a goddess). So do we wanna keep her folder moved or should we move her back to Characters.Super Mario Bros Allies?
The "Protagonists and Rivals" category in the Characters.Pokemon Black And White page I noticed currently passes the 40,000 byte and 6,000 word count, specifically at 52,859 bytes and over 8,000 words as of it's current edit. Would it seem like a good idea to make the category it's own page?
Hmm, the Faust page seems a bit short of the minimum byte count
