This thread's purpose is to discuss issues within the TLP community and site culture as well as propose solutions to said issues.
Please do not use this thread to report or call out specific users or TLP drafts on this thread. You can make a Ask The Tropers query on the issue, holler, or PM a mod (the first of the three being preferable).
- The community is too bomb-happy. By that, I mean, when a stub draft is proposed, users are way to quick to drop the bombs the moment it's available, and this creates a feedback loop where other users are encouraged to drop bombs as well. It gets to the point where the purpose of dropping bombs to offset hats is lost, and people care more about raising the bomb count than anything else.
- The community is unwilling to teach inexperienced sponsors. All too often, I've seen regulars not even trying to teach sponsors the steps needed to improve, and instead, will just give blunt statements that do nothing to help at all. (Ex: "No description! No examples! Bombing for lack of effort!")
- The overall rudeness of regulars. From my observations, most of the regulars are very prone to delving into snarky and sarcastic comments that condemn sponsors, and this is only creating an unwelcoming, toxic environment.
This needs to be fixed because, from the looks of it, those who were not banned from the 5T incident or didn't participate at all didn't get the memo that this type of mentality is very toxic and is what leads to incidents like that in the first place.

We're no longer allowed to report drafts here; a report is on ATT though.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessHuh… well that’s news to me.
Yes, and that getting stealthily changed is included in what’s “news to me”.

SoundCloudIt's in the pinned post.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanup~Shiny Cotton Candy It wasn't "stealthily changed". I announced the change when I updated the header . You missed the discussion that happened a few pages back.

Macron's notesApologies if this has already been brought up, but I thought it'd be worth mentioning in the wake of "that" draft. Should we impose a blanket ban on new tropers from making their own TLP drafts, especially if they have no edit history? Because this sort of thing happens most of the time; a new troper with no edit history makes a stub TLP draft that goes nowhere and is inevitably discarded. The guidelines on the TLP even say that it's not for inexperienced tropers.
I feel that'd be redundant. If a new troper makes a poor draft, they'll be violating TLP Guidelines anyway. If they manage to make a sufficient draft, good for them.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupThat's been discussed, but ultimately shot down. Tbh the issue with yesterday's draft wasn't that a brand new troper made it — it was that the people who responded acted out of line, equally in violation of the rules. Someone making a stub is not in and of itself a problem and I wish people would just learn to ignore them.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessMaybe I’m just imagining things, but it seems like several new trope proposals at TLP are getting 8-10 hats within hours of being created?
I don't think that's a recent development, but the volume of upvotes might have seen an uptick recently. Where you'd see 2-3 you might get 3-5 now.
I'm hopeful the new TLP structure when it rolls out will help with that. In the meantime, the actual hats are less relevant if the draft doesn't meeting the other rules, so I've been trying to call those out when I see them, encourage the proposers to slow down.
ignore, I wanted to draft my "assume good faith" rule but that's actually already a rule

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWondering if we need to hash out actual TLP crowner rules. And I'm not just saying that because of the title debate on a certain draft; it just made me think about how the TLP has constantly had issues with crowners because right now it's sort of just left up to the sponsor when to call it. They also get less attention since they can't be hooked directly. It leads to overall sloppy crowner scenarios because there are no actual rules on how long to wait, what a good ratio is, and how many votes should exist.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessNo interest?
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI just figured the same crowner rules apply as deciding names/scopes/etc on tropes in TRS, but with the sponsor instead of the mod being the one to call it.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. If that's true, it's never been formalized anywhere. Some TLP crowners have run for literal months because people just never knew when to call it; others last until barely enough votes have happened. And part of the problem is that, because it's left up to the sponsor, every sponsor will decide what the ideal time to call it is — which especially sucks as TLP crowners don't get a lot of votes to establish proper consensus the way we do it elsewhere, so people either have to wait or they call it too early (often without ever having it be closed, so the votes keep coming).
So it's just a mess and one I've noticed for years now.

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessOkay, I'll stop worrying about the crowner stuff for now (but may make a separate thread to discuss it later since I do think it's a recurring problem) and ask if we need to make an official guideline rule to not mess with already discarded drafts. People are still commenting and bombing this draft for absolutely no reason, and it seems like a pretty obvious rule to just say "hey, once a draft is discarded, ignore it unless you think it needs to be restored".

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessYes, but I'd also ask kory if discarded drafts can have comments disabled because discard means it won't be worked on.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI know eventually the TLP update will make it so that you can't reply on discarded drafts and stuff, but until that happens (as it seems to keep getting pushed down the pipeline), we may need some way to just discourage it from happening since people can't resist wonking on bad drafts even after they're nuked.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWas Stylish Sunhats launched without a 24 hour notifier? I don't see one on the draft. It might be okay to be honest to leave launched but I know your supposed to put a notifier on usually.
Nope; check the history. It was in the title but removed pre-launch.

back lolAh fair enough, my memory must have been playing tricks on me from when I saw in in the launch pad itself.
Anyway, this belongs here.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThe trope Porn Creator Going Mainstream was just launched. There was a request to make this NRLEP which apparently was ignored, and it seems like it should have this status — or at least should say that clearly in the trope description.
Can this be taken care of? Thanks!
It can't say anything about being NRLEP in the description if it's not actually NRLEP. And without a real life section, you can't take it to the NRLEP thread. So for now, it'll stay unless people actually start adding problematic real life examples, as per policy.
In any case, we can't really discuss new launches here, or any specific drafts in general for that matter.
