This thread's purpose is to discuss issues within the TLP community and site culture as well as propose solutions to said issues.
Please do not use this thread to report or call out specific users or TLP drafts on this thread. You can make a Ask The Tropers query on the issue, holler, or PM a mod (the first of the three being preferable).
. Based on the earlier Mario Pissing and Gay incidents, as well as observing the behavior of regulars in general, here are some issues I need to address.
- The community is too bomb-happy. By that, I mean, when a stub draft is proposed, users are way to quick to drop the bombs the moment it's available, and this creates a feedback loop where other users are encouraged to drop bombs as well. It gets to the point where the purpose of dropping bombs to offset hats is lost, and people care more about raising the bomb count than anything else.
- The community is unwilling to teach inexperienced sponsors. All too often, I've seen regulars not even trying to teach sponsors the steps needed to improve, and instead, will just give blunt statements that do nothing to help at all. (Ex: "No description! No examples! Bombing for lack of effort!")
- The overall rudeness of regulars. From my observations, most of the regulars are very prone to delving into snarky and sarcastic comments that condemn sponsors, and this is only creating an unwelcoming, toxic environment.
This needs to be fixed because, from the looks of it, those who were not banned from the 5T incident or didn't participate at all didn't get the memo that this type of mentality is very toxic and is what leads to incidents like that in the first place.

I felt like the entire exchange with The Librarian 1701 in the TLP Crash Rescue thread felt oddly like deja vu and sure enough this wasn't the first time they tried (or intended to) launch a draft, while ignoring feedback/criticism because they personally disagreed, and then essentially rage quit from the process. Similar thing happened last year on their draft for Meaningful Gift (when they still went by Type 40), see here and here, though in that case, they came back after cooling down a bit. Maybe they'll do the same this time, but even so, it's not a good look.

Unrelated, but I'd appreciate more people pitch in on Dreaded Paperwork Reveal. Right now the trope is full of examples that don't fit, and the sponsor, who is new to the site, seems to be in a bit of a rush and doesn't seem eager to listen to criticism. I think we could use more voices in the conversation to help hammer out what the best course of action is.

Bringing it up that the Humans Are Disgusting draft doesn't have a 24 hr notice, it just says "launching after 20 hats", which it has exceeded, and there are still issues over examples and the page quote.

I'm not sure where else to bring this up, so I'm asking here: Adaptation Drift was supposed to launch in March, but it didn't. I'm considering adopting it, but since the creator is inactive, I'm not sure what the procedure is.

- Make Sure the Draft Is Up for Grabs: If you want to adopt an abandoned draft, the draft must be abandoned for two months before it's eligible for adoption, or the last sponsor must have specified that they're placing it up for grabs.
And going by the history, it looks like it's been more than two months (closer to two and a half), so I'd say you're good.

I really don't understand why we allow comments on discarded drafts. It only ever seems to be problematic (unless it's just to, like, note a rogue discard or something).

I don't know why comments on discarded drafts are allowed either but I commented on the draft and locked it in case the sponsor tries to restore it.
EDIT: I think people are commenting on it because they see activity on it in the home page.

Looks they are all drive by hatters and I believe I have some of the same names on other drafts. They probably just hatted because they like the draft idea. I don't know how this would be addressed and I don't feel feeling sending out multiple PMs.

So, The Librarian 1701 is currently putting up a fight on Trans Character, Cis Actor because they believe the word "cis" is biased and thus too controversial to be used.
It hasn't blossomed into an issue yet, but, given their track record when it comes to debates, especially when it involves a personal ideology or viewpoint...
