Oh, I have. Great stuff.
Apparently Part III got the Rifftrax treatment. Here’s some samples -
Thanks to Cracked I found out about a rehearsal version of the first movie with different dialogue and scenes. It's like watching an old VHS tape version!
The Protomen enhanced my life.Funny fact, I think Mister Miyagi would actually like MMA.
There are a lot more grapples and disabling maneuvers than killing strikes.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. But the MMA Kid doesn't roll off the tongue as well, so Karate Kid it shall remain.
It's been 3000 years…Hard to say, one criticism I've heard of dedicated MMA gyms and other more recent combat styles is that they lean more towards being sports training rather than being martial arts, it's about form and function more than philosophy, discipline and respect. The core message in The Karate Kid is how important the philosophy, discipline and respect is in conjunction with the training. I would even say a scene that plays out a lot better as an adult is when Miyagi takes Daniel to Cobra Kai to talk things out, Miyagi says beforehand that such problems often lie with the teacher and while there his language is carefully structured to be as respectful as possible, only further revealing how toxic Kreese is.
Cross-posting from the Cobra Kai thread: Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio Set For New ‘Karate Kid’ Movie
Quoting only the first three excerpts:
While Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio have never before appeared together on screen, even as they've led films in different corners of the Karate Kid universe, they're getting that opportunity now via a new feature installment in Sony's hugely popular martial arts saga.
Macchio reprises his role as Daniel La Russo, the karate champion molded by Pat Morita's Mr. Miyagi, with Chan as Mr. Han, the kung fu master who helped Jaden Smith fend off bullies in Sony's 2010 Karate Kid remake. Details as to the plot of the film are under wraps, though sources say that it will mark a continuation of the mythology of the original franchise.
Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World) is directing the as-yet-untitled film from a script by Rob Lieber, with Karen Rosenfelt producing. Pic's slated for release by Sony Pictures on December 13, 2024.
I look forward to seeing the two film universes merge.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Apparently the two are indeed canon to each other after all. Haha. Still not sure why they didn't just call the 2010 film The Kung-Fu Kid instead. It's NOT like people wouldn't have gotten the idea and needed the exact brand recognition.

Agreed.
EVERYONE believes that.
At least who remember the movie. :)

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I guess maybe they thought general audiences would think "The Kung-Fu Kid" was some mockbuster ripoff or something?
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonDoug Walker when he did the NC Old Vs. New actually said he thought the 2010 movie's story was better and thus was the better movie overall. That's quite the opinion to have.
Yes I know just because he likes/dislikes something, it doesn't mean it's Word of God. Still surprising nonetheless though.
To be honest, I sort of agree with him there on the story for the original not being as good, but that's just because for me, Part II and Cobra Kai both blow the original out of the water.
It's been 3000 years…I give the 2010 film credit certainly for being more ambitious. They did know they needed to step the game up. They couldn't just make the martial arts bigger, they needed to make the whole concept bigger too.
One thing I like about that vid is that Walker's feeling that Drey came out of his story with a better understanding of his mentors teachings than Daniel did is shown to be aleast some what correct.
The 2010 film—screw it, I might indeed just call it The Kung-Fu Kid from now on haha—being longer might attribute to that. Dre being more focused during the final fight more so I suppose too. The original kind of made it clear that while Daniel got it, he was still pretty new to it at least—and it was basically one of the first of its kind so it's also hard to not consider it a higher standard based on that alone too.
Out of the people Miyagi ended up fighting, only Silver and Dugan actually gave account of themselves as a contrast to Kreese.
How was that possible? Neither Silver nor Dugan devoted enough time for martial arts because they were busy men (running a company and running a high school fraternity respectively) and yet Kreese, who would be in a position to continue his training as he ran a dojo, did poorly when fighting Miyagi twice?
Production on the final season of Cobra Kai started recently I think. Probably'll come out before this new movie. Heard a rumor Hilary Swank is in talks to appear on the show and hope it's true.
EDIT 3/7: Ben Wang from American Born Chinese (2023) has been cast as the new Karate Kid for the upcoming movie and Sadie Stanley who was Kim Possible (2019) has been cast as his love interest as well.

Thinking of seeing The Next Karate Kid?
I'm not going to call the guy an open nazi, but I'm sure he'd be quite down with the current crop of alt-right nonsense.
Go through Cobra Kai Season 2 and you'll see for yourself how politically incorrect Kreese is.
