Whelp. Here's something that ought to shake things up and poorly age that above comment. (Sorry Snicka.)

Who's up for an animated unholy fusion of The Silence of the Lambs and Lady and the Tramp?

Because Paramount Animation's upcoming Stray Dogs is just that, from the writer of Game Night and the writer for the IT and Annabelle movies.

Stray Dogs is based on a 2021 horror comic book published by Image Comics and conceived by Trish Forstner and Tony Fleecs, best known for their artwork on IDW's My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic series. (Seriously.)

(*assumes fetal position at the mere thought of Silence of the Lambs fusing with Lady and the Tramp*)

I have a more fitting comparison for this: Felidae for dogs.

It's been 3000 years…

Oh boy, another mature animal story film. And one that seems like it'll be good.

Is this Plague Dogs 2: The Doggening?

"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."

[up] Not sure. The Silence of the Lambs and Lady and the Tramp analogy have me convinced that the dog in the cover (who vaguely looks like a Lady type, come to think of it) might serve as the Clarice Starling of sorts and gets caught up in the pursuit of a serial dog-killer?

I don't know. This might not be my cup of tea. Probably because cute cartoons was literally my childhood, seeing them get slammed into some hardcore horror stuff makes my blood curdle...

Tony Fleecs revealing he pitched the original book as "a Don Bluth horror movie" doesn't help either.

Speaking of the cover, that + the alien theme from Annihilation = CHILLS.

So what's the age rating for this thing? Because the Animation Age Ghetto is defiantly something to consider and an animated (2D or 3D?) horror movie about dogs is the kind of thing that would scare off most big producers.

[up] I'm going to go out on a limb and assume this will be aiming for PG-13 or even R.

I guess they're waiting on how it works out for Sony Pictures Animation.

I've actually noticed something PG-13 animated films are able to get away with alot more than live-action PG-13 films (here's an example), any idea why?

[up] I'm looking around and apparently Turok: Son of Stone doesn't really have a rating, so I'm not sure it counts? (Though stuff like that scene would only really work in animation thanks to the Shadow Discretion Shot and because real animal protection agencies would get mad about the beheading of a horse if they actually SHOWED it.)

But hmmm. I do recall reading how it's possible to get around stuff with a PG-13 rating. I guess, ultimately, we'd have to see where the source material goes...

@OP That's why I said "so far". I mean, Sony Pictures Animation was also generally frowned upon until they made Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, so everyone has to start somewhere...
