If she wants to show she really regrets it, she should resign or at least accept being put on leave and immediately start firearm and taser safety training programs.

the only consolation one can make is that this seen to be a genuite mistake and no another of the "the suspect was to black so I have to shoot five time, fear for my life really" type of cop we are getting depreesingly used to.

Odds are still pretty good that she wouldn’t have been so rushed as to mix up the weapons if she’d been dealing with a white suspect. Also she probably wouldn’t have resorted to weapons. Also, also they probably wouldn’t have even pulled a white person over.

@Weirdguy: And the operative pronoun here makes me wonder if they would have done the same if the culprit was a male police officer.

Disturbingly the video seems to indicate that is department is actually better then many other departments, both the officer who shot the guy and the other officers seems to have actually recognised that the entire situation was wrong, rather than trying to brush it off.

Second-degree manslaughter charges have now been filled against the officer who shot Daunte Wright in Minneapolis.

Some of those who work forces... [nja]

Also I think KKK members being identified as police officers is a decades-old story.

Yeah, there was an uptick of articles about it when Watchmen (2019) (the cop/KKK relationship is a big part of the show) came out — here's one.

That show was also the first time a lot of people had heard of the Black Wall Street Massacre too from what I've heard.

It always strikes me as problematic to make the KKK look like idiots in the media. They enforce the idea that “they’re just harmless idiots. Don’t take them seriously” when it’s a fact that the people who started it were very well educated men, as stated in The Klan page here. Some of them are uneducated but that’s not the same as being stupid. This is the same group who can infiltrate the PDs and state governments, like ‘20s Colorado. We got to take all hate groups seriously. The Klan don’t have power these days but we have the Proud Boys and many of similar ilk.

[up] Didn't the original disgracing of the Klan involve showing to the wider public that, yes, these people are, in fact, idiots playing pretend whose secret password to secret meetings oscillated around such subtle ones like "White Power"?

It’s official: the police have become the new KKK.

Well, that doesn't seem right at all. The police were the old KKK too. They haven't become anything.

Cops were always like this. It's just that this age of social media is the first chance white folks have of seeing it.

It's a mixed bag with portraying The KKK as idiots. Basically, you need to get across that they're sincerely dangerous, but without making them look cool. It's a difficult balance to strike.

Actually, The KKK once had their backs broken by a Superman Radio Play that had a KKK-expy in it. A lot of their rituals were exposed and basically made everyone view the KKK as a laughingstock. This caused them to lose an awful lot of power.

Yep. Superman destroyed the KKK by depriving them of the glamour and mystique and making it embarrassing to be associated with the group.

But those people didn't go anywhere. The organization may have been laughed out of existence (at least, for a time) but the people went about their homicidal racist lives, continuing to be homicidally racist. It was a smaller-scale rendition of what happened to the Confederacy. We broke the South's backs and forced them to surrender and rejoin the union, but the people who made up the Confederacy went on being the Southern United States.

Despite what American capitalism might have you believe, organizations don't make decisions or have agendas or push ideology; the people who run those organizations do, and when the organizations shatter, they just pop up somewhere else and keep doing what they're doing. Trying to stamp out the organizations while doing nothing about the people turns into an endless game of Whack-a-Terrorist.

To be fair, I think part of the current strategy by far-right groups is to actually exploit being viewed as a laughing stock. That's part of the "Just Joking" Justification with it.

No, they're not trying to be a laughing stock. That's a different type of lulz.

Their method of hiding in plain sight is being edgy. There is a world of difference between Refuge in Audacity and being an embarrassing idiot that nobody wants to associate with. The latter is laughed at in derision by a knowing audience; the former is laughed at in absurdity by an unknowing one.

The Alt-Right wants people to start laughing at "LOL I can't believe he said that!" and then gradually transition to "LOL He's saying what everyone's thinking!"

I think Innuendo Studio's "How to radicalize a Normie" vid touches on [up]. Particularly with the journey of going deeper down the rabbit hole being abut seeing deeper layers as stupid (the "LOL I can't believe he said that!" part), only to inevitably dive deeper into those layers and agree with them (the "LOL He's saying what everyone's thinking!" part)
