As someone who has never played Metroid, this suggestion tells me nothing.
It shows a regular Game Over and a "special" Game Over. That means enough for me and I haven't played Metroid either.

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)It technically illustrates the trope, but it doesn't tell much.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.That's my take as well; it satisfies illustrating the trope but isn't very interesting.
It's better than nothing. pending a better suggestion.
Clock is set.
This is the bare minimum needed to demonstrate the trope: the background is a different color and there's some text under "Game Over". It's better than the current, but I'd really prefer something else.
mwopI'd say leave it empty.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.Maybe we could use the same two panel setup with the Rayman game over screens?
the OP is at least better than nothing
PSA: a cat is not a dogThe previous thread suggested "Ocelot is Dead — Time Paradox" from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Keet cleanupFrom what I know, the MGS Time Paradox only changes the text and not the background, possibly making it even less visually interesting. As for Rayman, I think anyone with no knowledge of the game can easily see the "The End" screen as a normal ending (several conclusions in games have the player character resting on vacation, and the money could just be what they found on the adventure). I think the Metroid suggestion works best.
There's also this idea: A "regular" death game over and a "special" arrest game over from Déjà Vu, though I'm not sure about its illustrativeness. Other Macventures don't have special game over screens, except maybe what comes before the death screen itself. I could remove the in-game borders if they're bothersome.

Okay, here it is without the in-game background (could be made 2 or 3 times bigger if necessary):

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)this doesn't look like a game over screen to me, it looks like someone got arrested for killing Ace Harding. I guess it could work with a caption though.
PSA: a cat is not a dogMaybe putting some space between the panels would help too.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.21 with panels spaced apart

Nominations for replacement images:
The current image was added ignoring the note to start an IP thread and is rather blurry. How about this from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, with the top showing the normal Game Over and the latter showing what happens if you stay in Hyper Mode too long.
