Of course, Rebels wasn't that warmly received when it first aired partly due to the cheaper animation style (seriously, just compare, say, Hondo's old and new models).
People just got used to it over and the series Growing the Beard helped a lot as well.
Regarding Onderon: I think one of my favourite details from that arc was Anakin advocating they support rebels.

Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. It’s probably easiest to tell with Hondo, since he’s a regular in both and appeared as early as Rebels season 1 (where the animation was worst). Every fiddly bit of extraneous detail in Hondo’s design was removed, leaving him a solid block that was easy to animate but sometimes doesn’t look like the same character.
They got better with time - Ahsoka’s Rebels design is pretty good and well detailed, and they didn’t ever skimp with characters who needed extra animation attention like Hera.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. And then there is the Art Style of Resistance. At first I really didn't like it.....but it grew on my kinda fast!

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I don't think the cost was so much a matter as the show was wrapping up and Disney wasn't interested in fronting the bill of a property that was only looking at another season and they didn't have complete control over, as The Clone Wars had contractual broadcast rights with Cartoon Network.
My guess is that Rebels was in early development before the Disney deal went down, and then fast tracked when it happened.

And of course all three shows are very different kinds of shows with their own audiences and inspirations. Clone wars is more an ensemble series and liked to do a whole plethora of different kinds of stories and episodes from horror inspired zombie eps to Godzilla inspired and its art and animation is meant to be more realistic though still exaggerated a bit. Rebels is heavily inspired by Ralph Mc Quarrie's paintings and concept art, and its art is meant to envoke that same feeling. Resitance is more cell-shaded and draws inspiration from Ghibli and works like Ōban Star-Racers.
Blog - TumblrDon't know if anyone else has experienced this, but I was getting some ads on YouTube for "The Rise of Skywalker coming December 20th." Turns out that these ads have been running for seemingly no reason.
Huh to think if Solo hadn't been so troubled we would have gotten another spin-off movie.
Oh fuck I just got one of those adds.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Yeah, Rebels being cheaper definitely explains how when Thrawn's fleet attacked the Rebel base that they only had Phoenix Squadron facing off against a fuckload of TI Es because they apparently didn't have the budget for a massive space battle xD
This is in contrast to The Clone Wars where enormous set-piece battle scenes were par for the course.
Mandalorian and the Sequel Trilogy harken back to the Original Trilogy. How about something harkening back to the Prequel and all it's crazy flipping lightsaber fighting?
The Mandalorian is a obvious callback to westerns blended with the central premise of Lone Wolf and Cub. I was thinking it'd be nice to have a Zatoichi equivalent with a blind wandering Jedi type and go more in the Prequels/TCW style of lightsaber shenanigans we know and love.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."We'd have had that if Kanan hadn't died.
That guy was always shirking his responsibilities.
One Strip! One Strip!Chirrut needs to get a bit of the blame there too. Literally a blind kung fu master with a reverence for the Force, then he goes and dies. How Uncivilized.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Alright, new rule I'm giving to everyone I like: No dying allowed!
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"Ahsoka took that rule and ran with it.
STAR WARS' MOST CONTROVERSIAL SUBJECT IN MANDALORIAN
Huh, I didn't actually catch that in the episode. So are people still bent out of shape about midichlorians?
Edited by God_of_Awesome on Nov 25th 2020 at 6:25:22 AM
Are they?
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. Are Star Wars fans ever NOT bent out of shape when it's about anything that is not the OT?

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Yep. Fan-bitching ruined the ST.
But yeah, they make mention of Baby Yoda's M-count, which is probably shorthand for midichlorians.
Eh. A lot of things ruined the ST.
The fan bitching is just another rung on that ladder.
One Strip! One Strip! As is fans bitching about those fans. Circle of life.
That's also fair.
One Strip! One Strip!Well, let's not undervalue the writing & directing that blindly listened to that griping without foresight.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.
As good as some of the plot and character work in Rebels was (and it was very good at times) the budget difference between peak TCW and Rebels is... Noticeable.
I don't know if there's a trope for the opposite of an Animation Bump but if there is these could be trope images.
