Cleanup for Pages Needing Wiki Magic

I'm opening up a Cleanup Thread for Needs Wiki Magic Love, as the page is currently too bloated for its own good. While we had a Short Term Thread for this a long time ago, it's clear that this page is going to need more than that.

Even though a lot of pages have been requested for a tune-up, a lot of them still get shafted and ignored, and even when some requests do get fulfilled they're still left up for a while before somebody notices that they've already been handled. What I'm thinking is we use this Thread as a Signal Boost for some pages, potentially giving them a chance to be properly fixed and the requests properly fulfilled. While I know that this sounds silly since we can't expect everyone to understand the source material a page is about and get on editing it right away, I still think this could work, but this idea may require further discussion.

Some people are still adding onto the page even though its big enough as is, and we'll never get enough requests done to make it a more manageable size at this rate. I'm thinking of maybe asking the mods to lock it temporarily to keep it from expanding further, but that sounds unfair to those who want to add requests.

Later, I'll run through the list and see if there's any works I know and can work on.

I think I'll search for entries that say "needs an image" and upload them.

There's one peculiar entry, though: Meta. What exactly is this page's purpose? I know it was moved to VideoGame.Meta due to namespace migrations, but now seems like a rather empty, abandoned "admin" (that's its page type) page.

Seems like a weird, definition-only trope page. It's also wiki-worded to "META" thanks to the game, and was randomly turned from a Main/ redirect to a "trope" page in 2013. It may be better just to cut it.

Alternatively, it could be redirected to Meta-Concepts.

That'd work for me.

I'll also remove some pages that seem fine (VideoGame.Deemo, for instance, "Needs more tropes, wicks, indexes, a character sheet, an image, and an entry pimp," even though it seems like it's got all of them). More feedback for what to do with Meta (delete, redirect to Meta-Concepts, something else) would be welcome.

I've been thinking about a major change to make the page easier to navigate; Dividing the folders into singular letters instead of having them in groups of letters. Also I've been thinking of renaming the "0- 9" folder as "#", since it focuses on the titles that start with numbers and I think I remember other foldered pages doing that.

Works Needing Tropes (linked on Needs Wiki Magic Love) is another index of pages that need help.

The first folder is titled "Works currently lacking a trope list". I'm thinking... shouldn't these be cutlisted instead? It's specifically against our rules to create a work page with zero tropes. Three tropes minimum.

I disagree. I'm pretty sure that the reason they're sent there is to avoid getting cut, and the problem is simply that no one's adding tropes to them.

Well, but the person who created the page is responsible for its content. Our administrivia pages specifically say nobody can expect others to do their work for them.

One thing is starting a decent page with minimal effort that you think deserves some attention, sticking it to the list with hopes that someone who knows it as well will find it.

Making stubs with no effort is different.

From How to Create a Work's Page:

Take for example this atrocious page: Little People Big World. It has a description that's barely a stub and not a single trope. Not even zero context examples. The edit history says it was created on Nov 6th 2017: almost two years ago. What would this wiki lose if it got cut? Not much.

It has some wicks, but at least one of them is misuse: Teens Are Short is not about teenagers who have dwarfism.

Has anyone contacted the original launcher of the Little People, Big World page? I'd like to do so before we decide to take the page down.

And to get back to what I said at , would everyone be okay if I made that edit to the Needs Wiki Magic Love page?

This is a wiki. Yes, that is a reasonable change. I'd also appreciate if the pages were sorted by media (i.e. literature, films, series, animation etc.) — but that's fairly hard work and not necessary.

And yes, I sent the notifier to the creator of the stub as soon as I saw the page.

Also, would it be okay if we posted specific pages being put under the Needs Wiki Magic Love page onto here? I was thinking it would be a good way to signal boost different requests so that they could be handled to make the page smaller. I do have a suggestion in mind that I want to share, but its an entire project with multiple pages, one that I've been picking up on again recently, and I not certain if I'm ready to post about it on here yet if signal boosting is allowed.

I'm not sure I follow. What is not forbidden is allowed if you follow our general guidelines.

I just wanted to make a suggestion that I thought would be helpful for this thread, and the one example I have I'm not sure I'm ready to present yet since it's about multiple pages that I've been taking more seriously recently.

I just want to say that the page was getting the "too long page" warning, so I'm in a process of cleaning it a bit (removing repetitive links, word cruft, not relevant info etc.). It's probably sufficient, so it won't be necessary to split the page in subpages.
