I plan on making an isekai comic that breaks many the various clichés associated with the genre, one of which being the party is not of the harem style (i.e. In Another World With My Smartphone). Shocker the main hero’s not the token male of the party, I know :P

Since it was going to be an epic-fantasy world, I had the thought of the Five-Man Band setup, with a Sixth Ranger or two and/or a Team Pet thrown in later into the story. Any advice on this?

Hopefully it's not an RPG gameworld. And there is attention to worldbuiling as well.

I suppose that my question is: why a Five-Man Band setup, specifically?

The cliche is that the protagonist is a token male, with every other girl in the party making up his harem. I had no desire to make him a straight Stock Light-Novel Hero, so I decided to instead do the Five-Man Band because it simply makes sense in my head. I mean, I COULD give him a harem, but I'm opting not to.

Also, it is not going to be an RPG Mechanics 'Verse, but rather a straight epic-fantasy world like in Slayers.

If a five-man band is what works for you, then fair enough!

That said, let me note that lacking a harem or a stock hero doesn't necessarily imply that the party will be a five-man band, it seems to me. You could have a party of two squishy mages, a swift fencer, and a protagonist who's primarily a straightforward brawler, for example. Or even have the protagonist end up with no party, or a party that keeps changing as people come and go, and so on.

As I said, if what you want to write is specifically a five-man band, then fair enough! I just want to make sure that the thought is questioned.

I see. What I was thinking was where The Hero is a Red Mage / Magic Knight, The Lancer would definitely be a rogue, The Big Guy is a classic Badass Normal fighter, while The Smart Guy and The Chick are a Black Magician Girl and White Magician Girl respectively. The two Sixth Rangers will probably be a female monk and a male bard or druid most likely.
