Honestly Tom's probably my favorite character they've added, even if I haven't unlocked him myself. He's just such a minor and out-of-left field choice I can't help but love it.

Final "Shenmue" character has been confirmed! It's Ren of Heavens.
Also the developers have re-announced their character survey. Doesn't look like they updated it, though.
Cant wait for people to vote for raidou again, SMT's only character.

I wonder if they'll just feature all of the Centurion's forms as the four reps? I honestly kinda hope not, I'd love it if Purple Rhino Sorcerer Neff got in.

I'd say chances are pretty good the Damsel in Distress of the day (Athena, jesus christ she's a goddess of war come on Sega) will get in with the game turning her Baleful Polymorph dove form into a more willing transformation alongside Neff and the dragon form centurion.

Another candidate from the original game that I could think of is Zeus, Athena's father.
Honestly I'd love to see characters from the other Altered Beast games get in, like Arcanon from Altered Beast: Guardian of the Realms and Luke Custer from Project Altered Beast. I mean, Shinobi is represented by Joe Musashi, Hotsuma, Hibana, and even Ageha.
As for the bit about Athena...well to be fair, the big twist of the original game was that all of the story turned out to be a movie production. So it'd probably be more accurate to get mad at the movie's producers than the game's.

And if that's the case then yeah, it looks like they're only focusing on the Alternate Forms for the Centurion for Altered Beast representation.
Unless they're implying that Centurion's regular human form will be the next playable character...?

Something cool that I learned watching this video is that each form seems to be getting it own "Centurion", with Werewolf getting the original Centurion from Altered Beast now referred to as "Centurion Red", while Weredragon gets a new character known as "Centurion Green".
Going by the pontential theming here, I'm gonna guess the Blue Hero will be Centurion Blue/Werebear and the Yellow Hero will be Centurion Yellow/Weretiger.

I'm wondering if any of the Centurions will wind up being a Distaff Counterpart.
You know I wonder if Tom Johnson's Promoted to Playable instance here qualifies him for Ensemble Dark Horse territory. If they needed a fourth character Guizhang Chen actually fought alongside Ryo, but it's true that Tom's like my favorite part of that game. Him and his silly accent(s).

The thing is Ensemble Dark Horses are, by Laconic description, "An unexpectedly popular minor character". When it comes to games with a large playable character roster like Racing Games, Fighting Games or, in the case of Sega Heroes, Gacha Games, I'm not really certain where the line is drawn since technically the playable character roster being as such means that they're all "major" characters even though they don't necessarily take the spotlight from one another.
Currently the only Ensemble Dark Horse for Sega Heroes is Chester, who does work because he's an enemy who was made for an April Fools Joke, yet ended up popular enough with players to be brought back for the 4th of July event.
