OK, here's where this thread is standing, with the unlocking:
Given the widespread backlash and complaining about certain aspects of the work (i.e. Dexit), we wanted to communicate very clearly what we are not willing to put up with: prolonged, circular complaining (or wonking).
Of course, with a controversial subject that has a large impact on the gameplay, Dexit is in one of those areas where there it may be on-topic to discuss it, but the nature of that discussion can wildly vary. As has been said elsewhere, we ix-nayed discussion of Dexit entirely because it never seemed to happen without devolving into that kind of complaining.
However, we're willing to unlock the thread after this 3-day cooldown period because the Pokemon General thread has been stable enough. And -
Can I discuss Dexit?
Yes. But if there is prolonged wonking on it, the thread just becomes an echo chamber of complaints and we do not like that. No one likes that. The same rules as ever apply. Be a constructive, healthy space. Have conversations about what you like, and what you don't like, but the thread should not get locked into a series of bitter complaints.
If you have questions or concerns about mod implementation or action, we have a thread for that here.
Alright? Thank you all for waiting this out. I hope we're all good now.

And they sure as hell are not doing that now, of all times.
... And that's called jazz! But there were people who played a certain amount of the game that said there are a bunch of new Pokemon, so I'd say wait until it comes out before complaining about the amount of Pokemon.
It's been 3000 years…"A bunch" is meaninglessly vague though. It could mean they saw new 4 Pokemon, or it could mean they saw 20. It only means whatever you think it means based on how optimistic or pessimistic you want to be.
It's been 9 years since we got a huge new dex. And the only other time that happened was 17 years ago
It's also an even-numbered gen. Historically speaking, they have less then the preceding gen, which leads me to believe that the amount of new pokemon is sub-86, probably between 70-60
Silence is golden, noise is platinum. Keelah se'laiCutting old species doesn't mean they can't introduce new ones. If anything, introducing new species is a perfectly valid trade off for cutting out old ones.

They're actively cutting Pokemon from the games because there are too many. I doubt they want to bloat numbers out any more than they absolutely have to.
Gamefreak is never tight lipped about new Pokemon. I'm more than willing to bet that there are very few new Pokemon even compared to Gen VII.
I fully expect ~50 new pokemon in total.

"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeNew forms "take up slots" and development time, too. Since we're getting pseudo megas and regional variants both will cut into the new species count even more than the previous two generations, so that sounds reasonable.
There's that one potentially huge leak with no evidence that says there are around 20 Galarian forms and 75 new Pokemon.
Ngl, big fan of all the original models coming together.

Would be better if there were no cut species tho.
Let's not.
We're so close dude.
Please shut up.
I have little interest/hype remaining for this game. Don't take it away.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Dude, there's three weeks left before the game comes out. Let's try not to shut the thread before then, yeah? We'll likely have to discuss that when the game does come out, so hold that thought until then.

From elsewhere, the confirmed returning Pokemon from the newest commercial are Munna, Sigilyph, Pyukumukyu, Shuckle, Octillery, Drapion, Scraggy, and Noctowl.
So, people who were holding out for a Galarian Noctowl are out of luck.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Except no. Banned topics are banned topics. Just because the game is out does not suddenly make them unbanned.
But we will have to address it at some point. Right now all we would be able to do is speculate, but once the game comes out, that's a part of it like anything else. The banned topic affects several things about the game, so unless we plan on banning huge chunks of things about the game as well, we will inevitably have to bring the topic up.
Edited by TheLovecraftian on Oct 24th 2019 at 10:08:57 AM
Yeah, eventually the banned topic will be brought up again. Trying to ensure that it doesn't when the games come out is kinda like King Canute trying to command the tides to stop; utterly futile and pointless.
The tides will stop because I will make them
New theme music also a boxThe tides is high but I'm holding on...
see my completed Tangled (Varian) fanfic collection! https://archiveofourown.org/works/24467056/chapters/59049532I will enjoy the game tho, but I've been getting feeling that more species should have gotten more love since HGSS.
It is good to see GF remember gens II to VII tho.
Also, banning topics regarding specific part of media is something I do not find a proper approach. We should learn to speak about something without being utter dicks.
Edited by Eriorguez on Oct 24th 2019 at 3:09:08 PM
Realistically, the banned topic will probably begin popping up more the closer we get, especially once the data mines happen.
I mean, ignoring The Elephant in the Living Room only works until it begins crapping everywhere and it becomes impossible to avoid, like the Eximation-Day will inevitable become, for good or ill
Silence is golden, noise is platinum. Keelah se'laiI would refute this, but that would require delving into the banned topic. So it will have to suffice to say that the plot-relevant Pokemon should be just the new Pokemon anyway, specifically the Legendaries.
I mean, isn't that the way it was in every previous game? The Psyduck Roadblock notwithstanding, as that could have been accomplished by any species (including humans).
bold move for gamefreak to make an advertisement about all your favorite pokemon coming together when you literally cannot do that
cute advertisement though, i honestly really adore it
