[up][up]Yeah. After one absorbs so much fiction you kind of write off the possibility of cliffs bring a death sentence. Also I may have misheard the name of the spider queen but did she say Malachite? If so would that mean the twins could show up again?

If you can't handle being outed by a signature, that's on you.

The twins? Maybe, but I think that Roman's hat was more symbolic than anything. I doubt Neo will come back, but still....Salem pre-Grimm? This is good omen.

...I have some questions regarding Haven Academy's topography.

So we're finally coming back to the Malachites. I always thought it was a little weird how random they seemed compared to every other aspect of the trailers. Next, Cinder visits Remnant's premier panda suit salesman!

Jinn was a pretty piece of WTF. I guess it's just lucky Ozpin's not interested in the Relics of Nayru, Din, and Farore.

Ozpin having screwed over Salem is only slightly less surprising than Cinder being alive. I'm just wondering how Jinn knew to tell the answer to the entire team and apparently not Qrow or Maria... aaand I just realized what a stupid question that was.

Also, no one is asking why Maria didn't move to the front? I was expecting at least we'd get the answer to that this episode, but apparently not yet...

(On an unrelated note, I really don't know why it's volume 5 everyone talks down for pacing; to me it felt pretty dynamic after the sheer circuitous pointlessness of volume 4...)

My posts make considerably more sense read in the voice of John Ratzenberger.

Hooooly shit. It's finally happening. I fucking knew all that hinting about Ozpin being shady wasn't for nothing. He may still have good intentions lurking beneath it all, but I'm really genuinely wondering if he's more concerned about keeping his own past hidden than saving the world.

Incidentally, Jinn said the relic was created by the God of Light, ie creation, meaning my theory about 2 relics per God was correct, and the God of Darkness's gifts to humanity were "Choice" and "Destruction", potentially hinting at a Dark Is Not Evil sort of thing, and I'm wondering if my theory about the God of Light being an even Bigger Bad than Salem (and Salem being on Kratos-esque Rage Against the Heavens quest to avenge the God of Darkness, who was betrayed and murdered by his brother) will also turn out to be true.

Incidentally this is one of the first times Ozpin flat out lied; he seemingly lied about not being able to take control away from Oscar against his will, but this is pretty cut and dry; he claimed all the "charges" of the lamp of knowledge were used, when in reality there were two remaining.

Incidentally, the villain I think we're "going to start feeling sympathy for" is probably Salem given that we seem to be getting her backstory and history with Ozpin. It clearly wasn't Cinder, who we're reintroduced to murdering a random bystander who came to help her.

Well, looks like Raven was right about Ozpin. So when the episode will be released to the public, would her words about him count as Jerkass Has a Point?

[up] We really have to wait to next week to see the full extent of Ozpin's deception. I don't think he's going to secretly turn out to be evil (except maybe for his first incarnation who I still think was a complete bastard), nor will Salem get more than a Tragic Backstory and perhaps a Theoretically Noble End Goal, but I do hope at the same time his issues aren't glossed over after some tension in the group, and in the best case scenario there'd be room for character development in the form him learning to trust others and genuinely come clean about his dark past, because right now it really looks to me like his first priority is keeping his past buried.

Edit: Actually, regarding my earlier remark that Ozpin flat out lied, technically he never said when he sealed away the relic, and if was more than 100 years prior to the last use of it, he'd be technically correct, but that was clearly a very deliberate misrepresentation of things either way.

[up] Maybe she took her sweet ass time to get back into the city proper because she knew the authorities would be looking extra hard for her and her co-conspirators in the days immediately following the Haven attacks.

So, in this episode, when Team RWBY realizes who Ozpin really is, would that count as an Et Tu, Brute? moment?

I’ve also got a feeling that Raven will be back shortly to tell Yang about why she became disillusioned with Oz at some point later in this volume.

I doubt it. Raven ran away to let Salem go after Yang and not her. Doing a sudden about face in a month, going back to people she tried to kill and go to Ozpin? Can't see it happening.

With Cinder's plot, while I'm 90% percent certain Mistral Woman is dead I am hoping Cinder has her alive in her house (unless MW had her life's savings in her pouch) just so she'd have someone to interact with who was completely disconnected from the criminal underworld and Salem's faction.

I been trying to figure put were there going with Cinder story if she been walking for one mouth the shouldn't her clothes look worst how did she kill the MW she couldn't stab her with out getting blood on and damaging the clothes or burn her with out damaging the clothes.

Also why did she not go back to Salem so far nothing in story have has told us why and why is she going after the heroes is it just of revenge I think Adam is covering that part of the story it can't be for the relic as far as Cinder knows Raven as it (also if she is going for revenge why leave Raven out?)

Did anyone find the I use to be afraid of spiders talk feel like foreshadowing or something.

[up] I do like that idea because it gives my the image of Cinder being roommates with the MW.

Salem will not put up with Cinder coming back with nothing but defeat.

[up] She might not kill Cinder for her failure, (in fact I rather doubt she would, if only for plot purposes), but it's likely Cinder would get her powers taken away if she returned empty handed.

[up][up] She might think that Raven was acting as a double agent, and assume she and the relic are with Ozpin's group, though that's still not terribly good logic since she was the one who started the fight in the first place.

In the most recent episode, Qrow has to choose between obeying Ozpin to keep his secrets (the lawful) or siding with Ruby to expose the truth about him (good). Would that count as either a To Be Lawful or Good or a Conflicting Loyalty trope?

Conflicting Loyalty, if anything. The choice doesn't really have much to do with being lawful or not and we don't know, at least as of yet, which option would be the better one.

Apathy is Death. Worse than Death, because at least a rotting corpse feeds beasts and insects.

Just one think here:

" why the hell was the train's defense system designed in such a way as to draw Grimm closer to the passenger cars? That's absurd."

I will said is because those grimms dosent act like proper because they are atract by the relic, in normal situation they are like animals: atack and them retreat but the force of the relic is so much they kept atacking.

The turrets are a good idea but they dont have proper firepower for that, even RWBY idea was to go off the rails because of it.

Interesting how Yang is the one to call Oz out, even though she kept secret the fact that Raven was the actual Spring Maiden and that she watched her escape.

Jinn also looks a lot like Paimon from Magi. Naked, blue, and chains.

Little Miss Muffet—I mean, Malachite—was an interesting character, and I hope to see more of her and the spider gang she leads. They should recruit that one Faunus from back in Menagerie.

As to Salem's backstory. I really hope it isn't a case of her just wanting to get back at Oz because he screwed her over or something. That would just make it all seem so... petty. Like, I'm hoping her Start of Darkness has some sort of self-actualization to it.

The subject hasn't actually come up so we really don't know if she said anything or not regarding RWBY's best mother figure.

They said that since they don't have "the Spring Maiden" they couldn't lock the relic away again. I feel like if they knew it was Raven, they would just say her name, and Qrow may have had something to say about her.

[up][up] Which pretty much triggered the chain of events for this Volume.

Had Yang fessed up about Raven, they wouldn't need to go to Atlas.

sgamer82 Since: Jan, 2001

Not necessarily. Raven left. Even if Yang fessed up it wouldn't change anything since they (a) would still have to track her down and (b) in her cowardice she'd do everything possible to avoid them.

So whether Yang said anything or not, they don't have the Spring Maiden.
