[up] You could use that same argument for Adam to survive his wounds and there could always be a new point for Adam, that his character goes into a new direction.

I'm not saying that he is definitely alive. It is a pretty low chance. Just that one should never jump to conclusions. His death is certainly not as definite as Pyrrha's, Corsac's or Roman's for example. The next RWBY Rewind or the one for the final episode should probably give an indication whether he could survive or not.

[up] What new direction? If he lives then he's still the antagonist for Blake and Yang, there's not really any other direction for his character to go beyond joining up with Cinder and/or Salem and continuingg to antagonize Blake and Yang, and that's kinda eh given how little characterization all of the villains besides Salem herself have at this point.

I'd say he's in the same box as Roman, getting eaten whole by a giant monster provided an opportunity for him to cut himself out and demand "Where's my hat!?" had the writers wanted him to survive, but clearly they didn't.

Incidentally, I expect we're going to see next episode just how powerful silver eyes are, and if there's some sort of drawback. If they're as much of an "I win" button versus Grimm as Maria's fight suggested, that will further support my theory that they're going to be a Red Herring as far as being a (direct, I think they'll play a role, but in a drastically different way from what we're expecting; ie I think Salem will try to corrupt Ruby, and might succeed for a time, but in trying to snuff out the flame in Ruby's heart will find her own beginning to stir.) solution for Salem, because if it's as simple as Ruby going up to her and zapping her with her eyes, that's stupid and cheap.

[up]

He doesn't have to Blake's and Yang's personal villain anymore. One could simply focus more on his hatred against humans or the SDC and teaming up with Cinder or Salem would fit that too. Whether that is good or bad thing doesn't really matter or if it should be better if he stays dead. Point is, we are not the writers. We don't know if they have future plans and his final scene does give some leeway even if the chance of survival is low.

For all we know, we could get a final scene with Adam's washed up body. We simply shouldn't just jump to conclusions and wait and see, whether they will confirm his death or not. Uncertain Doom exists for a reason.

Two full penetrations with blood, eyes shaking ever so slightly with extremely shallow breaths, doesn't flail on the fall down, and smashes against a cliff and starts spinning like that one dude who hits the propeller in Titanic. Oh and yeah his role in the story is over and done with, he got straight up humiliated last season, and the big character trailer thing for the season was about him. And Blake has a full breakdown afterwards.

Not quite as dead as Pyrrha "Dust in the Wind" Nykkos, but also far more dead than Cinder "we froze the main villain, who has fire superpowers, and threw her off a bridge after explaining jack shit about her" Fall.

I'm predicting that Cordo, with all of her humiliations in the last few episodes, will decide to Face Death with Dignity and wait for her end in the season finale.

Should Yang's and Blake's entry from the Ho Yay page be removed? I think it is clear that several for their moments are Ship Tease and not just fan interpretation. I think's Adam's "What does she see in you" sealed the deal. Barbara even said that while some of it is just fans having shipping googles, some was definitely intentional on the writer's part.

With Adam and Roman done Cinder is the only baddie from the beginning with little backstory.

[up] Yep. One thing I can think of is her backstory*, being a Foil of Pyrrha's, where she had (step)parents who pushed her incredibly hard to be ambitious and aim high, and who made her feel weak and powerless whenever she was anything less than perfect. She's taken that to heart, and relentlessly seeks power because she's had it drilled into her that her destiny is to be the very best, the most powerful, the most feared, and so on.

* And perhaps also her character as a whole, recall how Cinder answers in the affirmative to Pyrrha's "do you believe in destiny?" and how they have a similar Red+gold color scheme.

The longer this plot lasts, the less sympathy I have for the "heroes" in this situation. They try to steal an Atlesian ship - alright, they are desperate, some tough measures must be taken. They fight Cordovin and her mecha, which they realise exists mainly to protect Argus from the Grimm - that is a bit harder to forgive, but maybe they fear that surrender won't be accepted? But when Ruby was ordered to surrender and instead decided to destroy the mecha, she officially became the bad guy (gal) of the conflict in my eyes. And is she even listening to the crap that comes out of her mouth?

"You gave us no other choice." Yeah, except for having Weiss go to Atlas alone.

"We're suppossed to use our power to protect people." Yeah, unlike you are doing right now.

"I'm giving you one last chance to stand down and hear us out." Are you seriously making demands from military? That you have just attacked? What do you expect the answer will be?

RWBY and the gang essentially doomed the entire city because they didn't want to part with Weiss. That's slipping dangerously close to Designated Hero territory.

[up] I'm really hoping they explore that angle and we get a solid My God, What Have I Done?, or in Ruby's case her running off and doing something borderline suicidal, from the heroes after they realize their actions have just put the entire city in danger.

The episode description was "Our heroes are running out of time. As Cordovin continues to stand tall, Blake and Yang stand together, and all combatants must ask themselves, 'How far am I willing to go to win?'" So I think there's at least hope they're going to address the problematic turn of events.

Also, the episodes end with the heroes sharing a horrified glance at the mech; I think they (and the show) realized that they fucked up as much as Corvo, and ended up doing exactly the sort of thing they got so furious with Ozpin over.

I'm hoping they go for a Jerk with a Heart of Gold / Noble Bigot angle with Cordovin, in that she realizes there's more important things to do right now than settle scores with her Sitcom Arch-Nemesis, and offers the heroes a deal; help repel the Grimm attack (and get her mech's arm free) and they'll talk afterwards about getting them to Atlas. She adds the additional terms at that point that they'll be going there as prisoners, but she at least agrees to send a message for general Ironwood along with them, and since our heroes aren't really in a position to bargain so they accept. This leads to them getting separated from the relic, which is thrown into an evidence storage locker along with their effects.

CaptainCapsase from Orbiting Sagittarius A* Since: Jan, 2015

[up] She wasn't really a Heel to begin with, just a Jerkass bigot following orders in an overzealous fashion. I think both sides will agree they may have made mistakes; Corvo will at least entertain the notion that our heroes were telling the truth about being on a mission of grave importance that General Ironwood must be informed about, but she won't take all of the blame, and insists that the heroes go Atlas as prisoners. The horrified glance the heroes share at the end of this episode tells me they understand that they've just fucked up badly, and they aren't in a position to negotiate to begin with.

@Tharkun140 As far as refusing to accept Cordovin's demand of surrender, if they did that they'd be imprisoned in Argus and the relic would be stashed in some evidence locker for as long as it took for word of the incident to filter up to Ironwood, just waiting for a disguised Neo to sneak in an steal it. They don't know Cinder and Neo are on their tail, but they do know Salem's followers are hunting them in general, so it makes sense why they aren't interested in surrendering.

[up][up] She would have to be evil in the first place for that to occur. Right now she's a Villainy-Free Villain at worst.

[up]I get that, but continuing the fight wouldn't do them much good either. The fighters are still there. Surrendering would at least give them a chance to talk and, you know, stay alive without having to fight the entire Atlas military.

[up] With the mech paralyzed, they could potentially have taken Cordovin as a hostage to deter fighters shooting them down, then turned themselves in at Atlas; they weren't completely out of options (but they were getting progressively shittier), and Cordovin was clearly not able to keep up with them, so I don't think she'd have been able to resist an attempt to physically drag her out.

They also could ask Jinn how to convince the Atlesians that they need to be brought to Atlas; presumably she'd give them some highly sensitive military codes that would seemingly validate the claim that they're on a mission of grave importance; to do that they'd need enough time to summon Jinn and ask the question, which is not really easy with Cordovin shooting at them. As for why they didn't do that to begin with, not doing that except as a last resort makes sense given how Too Awesome to Use the nature of the relic's power is. When you have to wait 100 years to get more questions, "how do we get to Atlas" seems like a huge waste, especially if Jinn decides to be a Jackass Genie about it and gives them geographic directions; the fact that she gives Ruby that huge flashback with full context on what Ozpin is hiding from them in contrast to the two word answer she gives to his question about destroying Salem implies to me that she is in fact capable of being selective about how she delivers her knowledge and whether she includes context and stays true to the spirit of the question.

Just making a run for it was Maria's suggestion, and that's a horrible idea, but someone already raised an objection to that in the form of Blake and Yang being missing, so I don't think they would've gone through with that if the Grimm attack hadn't interrupted things

DING DONG THE EDGELORD'S DEAD.

That alone made this entire Volume worth it, regardless of how dark/depressing its ending potentially turns out to be.

The edgelord has fallen.

I feel like a certain specialist is getting a demotion once this is over.

They protagonist broke the law, but cord made it personal and decided to ignore regular procedure for this situation.

Yeah, Cordovin had fighters that were suited for this role, but instead she took the Anti-Grimm weapon out so she could take care of things personally and as a result

I also don't fault Ruby with destroying the canon since we are way past excessive force here by Cordovin. Not to mention that she only had this opening because she was trying to shoot a 16-year-old student with a weapon designed to fight giant Grimm at point blank range. That is not the sort of thing that does wonders for the reputation of a kingdom accused of attacking and killing students the previous year.

I hope not, I would prefer she survives and gets a proper dressing down from a superior about how badly she fucked up and receive appropriate consequences from it.

My prediction is that Cinder and Neo will rock up in Argus just as Ruby as exhausted herself with the Silver Eyes and nab the relic whilst failing to kill or seriously injure her. RWBYKNROQM will be able to go to Atlas but their quest will have failed. Plus we haven't seen Cinder or Neo for half the volume so if they're coming back for the finale then it should be to do something big.
