We've just pushed a large overhaul public. Please report complaints, comments and concerns here. When reporting bugs, please make sure you include which browser(s) and platform(s) you have encountered the issue with.
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
- Why did we do this? This update has been in development for over a year. It replaces a vast amount of messy code on the back-end, gives us a new modernized design, updates us to https, and creates a platform that we can more easily build on for future updates.
- Can we go back to the old design? This isn't happening. We'll make the new one work.
- Why are there so many bugs? As with any major overhaul, some problems will occur. The developers are working full-time on fixing stuff.

In the Image List Link, the search buttons are not aligned with their text boxes.
Same issue for the search buttons in Trope Finder / Ask The Tropers / Bugs / Trope Launch Pad. Basically anything that uses the "magnifying glass" search button.
Some issues with PMs. One, it seems like the red icon does no longer link to the message page. Two, it seems like it's counting both incoming and outgoing messages.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAnd now it's hightlightig links when I didn't want it on, seriously can't we just change it back?
I'd much prefer things be changed back to the old layout.
You could have just like, updated that abit instead of changing everything.

Can't we just hit reverse ? It's not like the old forum had anything wrong.
Fallout 2? More like Fallout 2 bad.Incredibly minor in a sea of problems, but our avatars are now displaying in 80x80◊ when 100x100 was just fine in the old layout.
mario is red, i am green, i try my best, but everyone's meanI wish it would be changed back as well, but the odds of that happening are extremely unlikely, so we should focus on what needs fixing.improving instead.
I'd prefer if the older colors were added back, or added as an option.
The Protomen enhanced my life.I tried to make an edit with the new site, and it wouldn't go through, giving an error message that the change was too large. Is this a known bug?
Yeah, I really want an option to have the old layout back.
I say we make a petition on here to bring back the old layout.
Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.i'm not seeing anyone's forum badges anymore. This is unacceptable, as people paid actual money for those.
If it was just a few things broken, I could adjust, but this is a disaster.
Oissu!Yeah, I'm fully joining the "Can we go back, please?" train. I mean, did anyone even take a look at how this format looks? The quotes are too large and spaced, the format is oddly spaced all over the place, the border around the images just looks weird... this looks horrible. I'd expect this to be from around six years ago. This is just... I have to say it: it's freaking ugly.
I was about to add a bit to the page for Author Existence Failure, but it kept saying "You are attempting to change too much of this Wiki article" even though it was only a few sentences long. For the record, here is what I was going to add:
- In 2018, Nickelodeon announced the TV movie Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus!. However, Lucille Bliss, who played Miss Bitters, died in 2012. It's currently unknown how the team will handle this.
Index tags disappear the lines between items.
Also, I do see forum badges — but there's another issue. The badges are the same size though the images are smaller, which means they're stacked one on top of the other vertically and push the next post down quite far.

OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!I'm sorry but the new watchlist looks awful. The last version had a red dot next to each trope that allowed you to quickly ascertain which trope had been updated and it is also a font too small. It now looks like an overcomplicated and actually quite uninteresting looking spreadsheet that has improved nothing.

Forum avatars are waaaay too small.
The notes are no longer show as superscript, so each "note" tab effectively ends up fused to the previous word.
The editing page no longer has a separate scrollbar for the editing window and for the page as a whole. This is an issue, because you can't see the header that shows you how much time you have left before the page is edit locked after you scroll down by any amount, meaning you can't keep track of how much time you have left without constantly scrolling back to the top of the page and then all the way back to where you were editing every single time. This is especially as issue with the longer pages.
Also, has the maximum width for images been shrunk? I noticed that most images in general have shrunk, but those in character pages have really shrunk. As in, most of them have gotten so small that it's barely possible to see details — some of them have shrunk to the point that they're as small as, or smaller than, the minimum size for uploading images in the old format. There seems to have been a good reason for that minimum size: a lot of images are too small to make them out properly, which in turn means they can't do their job — illustrating what the page or folder is about — properly anymore, and besides that they're visually unappealing.
The Pokemon character pages are a perfect example of what I mean, but generally speaking any image that's longer than it is tall has gotten like this.
Oh, and apparently the forums don't recognize paragraph breaks anymore — I'm using double backslashes to keep paragraphs separate in this post, because if I do anything else the site insists on merging everything into a single giant paragraph.
And I might as well add that I don't much care for how the folders look now, I suppose.
I Agree... there should at least be an "old.tvtropes" version because this is not very good.
I'm getting the "this discussion is private" error on and off too.
Oissu!Further to one of my previous posts, which mentioned indented text as an aside, if you have a note inside double or more (-->) indented text (which is already barely readable), the note text is literally too small to read (e.g. by the page quote of Telenovela).

OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!I just don't see the point in changing the entire site when the old layout was fine for the majority of people.
People had issues with it but why not fix those issues instead of changing everything again? It seems obtuse and overcomplicated.
Hell the biggest issues I had with it (wide sidebar and lack of colors) could be fixed with userstyles, so surely changing a few specific things would take less effort?
@ Tales of Under: Fast Eddie handed over adminship of the site to two new admins, drewski and itcdr (sp?), several years ago.
Don't know if it's been reported already, but every page I edit is subsequently auto-locked.

You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"
Logging on at all should be disabled like when the update was being applied until the logging on to random accounts bug is fixed. Like people are saying it's a massive security and privacy issue. People sometimes use their real name for their Emall.
