Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
- Why did we do this? This update has been in development for over a year. It replaces a vast amount of messy code on the back-end, gives us a new modernized design, updates us to https, and creates a platform that we can more easily build on for future updates.
- Can we go back to the old design? This isn't happening. We'll make the new one work.
- Why are there so many bugs? As with any major overhaul, some problems will occur. The developers are working full-time on fixing stuff.

- Can't search specifically by thread title, making results unhelpful.
- Pagination doesn't work correctly — the last page displays as if there were no search results.
- Line breaks don't work in some areas. (Ask The Tropers, Trope Launch Pad, forum previews) [Patched]
- ATT, TLP, forum previews fixed. Some more line breaking issues were identified and are being worked on.
- The Cut List does not work.
- Cannot approve or deny requests. [FIXED]

- Note, subscript, and superscript formatting are broken in various places. [FIXED]

- Remaining issue: the lock system still doesn't distinguish between an article that's locked and one that's checked out for editing.
- Edits won't save when "<" or ">" characters are present in the markup. [Patched]
- HTML detection was disabled for the time being. We're working on a more robust system.

- Custom titles are no longer appearing in all places where they should. [FIXED]
- In-line icons for Flame Bait, Trivia, and YMMV wicks are intended, but sometimes overlap preceding text. [Patched]
- Trivia icons should not appear in-line. (Design issue, logged)
- In second-level bullets, icons overlap preceding text. [Logged]
- The [invoked] tag no longer suppresses the aforementioned icons. [Logged]
- [quoteblock] markup causes everything inside to appear italic and squashed together. [FIXED]

- Post numbering is no longer visible, although you can retrieve it from the hard-link. [Logged]
- "Delete all posts by user" mod feature now causes posts to be completely hidden instead of replaced with "Troll Post". [Logged]

"Tropes Illustrated" on the homepage doesn't work properly. The image and trope name will change if I click to go back to previous comics, but the trope link URL and description are always for Super-Soldier.

Now that I'm at work, I can also report that it looks normal in Chrome on Windows 7 and Windows 10. It's either a Firefox or an OS X issue.

Not sure whether I should point this out here or in the Namespace Configuration thread, but apparently the namespace configurator is moderator only. However, the first post said it would be available to anyone, it's just that only moderators could edit it. To quote: "There will be a php page where anyone can view the list and the settings for each namespace, and mods can edit them." It doesn't seem like it's viewable to the public, and if it is, can a link be provided to it? And if plans were changed and it won't be available to the public, can the first post in that thread be changed too?

We just posted some fixes to the Cut List:
- Cut reasons will now show up.
- Formatting has been corrected on showcuts.php.
Still at issue:
- The modal dialog after adding a page to the cutlist persists in the Location field, causing it to display again if you refresh the page.
- showcuts.php still doesn't show cut reasons.
- The "This page was cut" page doesn't display cut reasons when viewed after an article has been cut.
- (Old issue) Clicking on the title portion of the article name in the cutlist takes you to the Main namespace instead of the correct one.
- (Design question) There appears to be no way to "un-challenge" a cut request.

Good question; I'll bring it up. The original design intent was to have a publicly visible namespace config page as well as a version that only mods can use, but I don't know what happened to it. Also, there are still some issues with the config page that we're working on... most importantly that the locking system doesn't work.

The episodes indexed in DarthWiki.The Punishers Song Of Evangelion And I Must Scream are not showing the index in their relatedsearch-es. For example:
- Edger And Darkier's relatedsearch.php
- DarthWiki.WangstForTheMemories's relatedsearch.php
- Continuity Gorn's relatedsearch.php
This doesn't seem to be a new bug, actually, having been visible 3 years ago or so.

Yeah, we'll look at indexing issues later on in the queue.
We've figured out the post numbering problem. Seems that a side-effect of reindexing the forum threads to fix the duplicate post numbers is that the post count no longer matches the page count. We'll fix the broken threads with a script. I'm not sure when that'll happen, but it should be soon.

Regarding night vision blue text vs green text, I personally prefer the green. But either is manageable I guess.
What really strains the eyes is the previously visited link text, which is navy blue. I can barely make it out against the dark background. I have it set to purple in the browser options but I guess that doesn't matter huh?

Self-reply: the reindexing of the super-long forum threads is in progress and should be done shortly, if it hasn't already. Let us know if there are any more threads whose pagination is screwed up.

I don't see it listed in the compiled list of bugs up top, so forgive me if it's already been addressed, but the "last edited by" on someone's post seems to be using the editor's own local time zone instead of my time zone.
Before the update the headings made with the !! markup would cut off when they came up against a picture, now the heading it pushed down below the picture creating a big pointless blank space if the picture is longer then the description, for a random example see the Carice Van Houten or the On Your Mark page
It causes problems with the Star Scraper page which was given a long picture due to it's subject matter
