     Plot
A year has passed since the fall of the entity simply known as Verse.

Nobody knows if the world truly got better after, though. Verse's defeat released the souls contained inside it and gave them physical forms, releasing villains such as Rugal, Igniz, and Orochi. It also released more benevolent souls, such as the ones of Ash Crimson, Gaidel, and Jeff Bogard. The world has never been in such peril, yet it doesn't seem like it.

Verse's defeat is also calling in fighters from new worlds to come into our own, such as the enigmatic matriarch Kazumi Mishima and skilled mecha pilot Hana Song.

The known criminal Xanadu is on the run after participating the most recent tournament, last seen with his unwilling cohorts Chang Koehan and Choi Bounge escaping back to Xanadu's home base, the Grand Temple of Orochi.

There have been several reported outbreaks of a phenomenon known as the Riot Of The Blood, an affliction that is turned on in certain individuals when Orochi's presence or power creates a sudden spike in the same power in themselves, driving them temporarily insane and significantly boosting raw power. Luckily, a secret military sect has picked up the victims and lumped them together.

A new tournament is forming, one that is on a much larger scale than anything seen before it. With both first champion Antonov and veteran fighter and hostess Chizuru Kagura taking the helm, the whole world is clamouring to see new fighters and old duke it out in the familiar teams of three. Who they are and why they came differs every time, but there is always the same result: Fighting, Traveling, and the inevitable hijack for a villain's own means. This is the King Of Fighters tournament, and this is why we love it!

But this is more. This is a new beginning, a convergence of the forces of good, evil, and somewhere in between. This is a clash on a scale never before seen or again repeated. This...

IS THE REVOLUTION!

Hello! This is the official signup thread for The King Of Fighters: Revolution.

What is this roleplay, you ask? This is a roleplay based in SNK's fighting game series, The King of Fighters, in which teams of three are created to fight in a world-spanning tournament, which eventually gets hijacked by whatever villain the arc has in that game.

You will play as OCs and Guest Fighters who are entering the tournament for their own reasons, whether or not those are benevolent are up to you. But before I give you the sheet, let me lay down some ground rules and rules for characters.

     Ground Rules
  • All TV Tropes forum and roleplay rules apply here.

  • No Godmodding of any sorts. That includes Ghosting, Autohitting, and Powergaming.

  • No causing drama in the OOC threads, and no bringing over drama from IC into OOC. If you're having a bad day, that's one thing, but you don't need to spread the "goodwill" to everyone else.

  • This roleplay is naturally competitive, as it is a tournament setting, but don't be a sore winner or loser. Even if you lose a fight, there will still be opportunities for you IC. Trust me, it's not over if you lose, and it's not really single elimination or even elimination at all, at least in the beginning.

  • Just in general, don't succumb to {{G.I.F.T}} and we'll all be okay here.

     Character Rules
  • If you want to play as a Guest Fighter or even a canon character, run it by me first, as certain characters will not be accepted.
    • Generally, there are one of two reasons a guest character is not accepted: they're either too powerful or too unrealistic. By unrealistic, I mean characters that are from a setting that either implicitly defies realism or is wildly different from the world of KOF. Like, if you put in Bowser, you'd be much less likely to get in as if you would have you put in, say, Ivy Valentine.
  • If you decide to use an elemental or energy-based power, you can only have one kind of power. If you control Fire, you can't control Earth, if you control Light, you can't control Grass, and so on.
  • You cannot play a character implicitly designed to be a boss, whether it's of your own creation, SNK's, or another company's. This is a much more tricky rule for Guest Characters, but OCs designed to be OP and KOF's rogue's gallery (Bar Geese and the New Faces, as they're specifically playable) are both explicitly off limits and will not be accepted.
  • Characters are in teams of three in the tournament proper, so unless you're designing a character that implicitly avoids the tournament and acts behind the scenes, you will be put into a team of three, either by your own will or mine. Please be prepared for this, and please don't get angry with me about it.
  • You can create up to three characters, but unless you run it with me and we decide it's okay, they must be in a tournament team together.
  • Certain elements of canon you can work into your OCs. These elements are:
    • Orochi Bloodline (You cannot be related to a canon character, but your family can have made a deal with Orochi in the past. This makes you susceptible to the Riot Of The Blood. If so, put a super cool Name That Unfolds Like Lotus Blossom under the Nickname section of the sheet proper, as a way to let me know and to flow with other Bloodline characters.)
    • NESTS Genetic modification (You can be a clone of a canon character, or you can have it so your DNA had been messed with by NESTS in the past. If so, put the first letter of the person you are cloned after and a 2+ digit number (the first digit can be 0) as a sort of "Model Number" as a way to let me know and to flow with other Clone characters.)
    • However, please don't use this in every single character, as it loses uniqueness that way.

Sorry if that seems like it's a lot, but I promise the fun part's up next.

     Character Sheet
  • Name: (What is your name?)

    • Nickname: (Any notable nicknames or codenames?)

  • Age: (How old is you?)

  • Gender: (Insert Professor Oak joke here.)

  • Appearance: (Picture is fine, but do provide a brief description.)

  • Abilities: (What can your character do? Please don't go too overboard on this, or you will be asked to change it.)

    • Style: (If you want to describe the fighting style you use in more detail, do so here.)

    • Power Source: (Does your power have a specific source? A freak accident, an artifact of some sort, or just training? If it does, put it here.)

  • Gear: (What kind of stuff does your character carry?)

    • Weapons: (Do they use weapons to help them fight? Put them here.)

    • Keepsakes: (Anything that they truly care about? Put that here.)

  • Personality: (How does your character walk and talk?)

  • Bio: (How did your character get here? Do they have a tragic past and are looking for revenge, or are they a posh upperclassman who joined for kicks? How did their experiences put them on this path?)

  • Team: (As (hopefully) previously stated, the tournament proper will be held in teams of three. Here is where you would provide the name of your team and teammates. If you want to be on a team with a currently un-allied NPC, ask me first. If you haven't decided just yet, don't worry! We can discuss who you want to team with before the RP starts.)

  • Reason: (Do you have a specific reason for joining the tournament? If so, put that reason here.)

  • Location: (From where in the world is your team signing up from? This is an RP with a pretty grand scale to it all, after all.)

  • Theme Song: (If you want, you could submit a theme song you would want your team to have. Instrumentals are recommended, but not required.)

I look forward to seeing your sheets!

  • Name: Marina Elton
    • Nickname: Melter
  • Age: 21
  • Gender: F
  • Appearance: Melter is a young half-latina woman with short hair in a boy cut dyed white and a round face with a pointy chin. She wears a lot of band tees from goodwill modified for fashion, but her sort of "default" getup is a worn-out pink polyester bomber jacket over a tight white crop-top with a crude screen-printing of her logo on it, a stylized blue bird's head pointing up and right. Marina has homemade cutoffs, and she sets off the whole thing with green Vans and an Arizona Green Tea ballcap with the floral print on it. She's 5'9 and weighs about 160 pounds.
  • Abilities:
    • Marina is an excellent skateboarder. She's super fit, she has a great sense of balance, and she can do tons of tricks.
    • Marina does some tagging on the side, but it's just kinda part of the skating hobby and not something she focuses on.
    • Style: Marina fights alongside her best friend, her board, in her own original fighting style. She is primarily a street skater, not much for vert, and has a great deal of ability to tilt her balance at speed to whirl around her opponents and throw herself at them with devastating damage. Her board can channel her own internal ki too, allowing her to fire off various energy attacks by doing tricks—primarily projectiles that follow the trajectory of her tricks and strike opponents lightly multiple times rather than in one big burst. In "the fighting game of this," she'd probably have a lot of left-rights as alternatives to her roll and a command dash or something. Her "super," in fact the only move she has with a real name, is TAKE A RIDE! If an opponent is walking towards her, Marina will go for an opportunistic attack and attempt to slide her board under their feet with a well-aimed kick. If it succeeds and they step onto it and then probably immediately start falling backwards, Melter follows up with a grab at the face to smash her victim head-first into the concrete, recovering her board while her opponent's stunned.
    • Power Source: If you're good enough at skating, the old magic of the practice will reveal itself to you.
  • Gear:
    • Melter's board is green with super metal-looking runes written on it in a neon pink. It has some heavy magic on it. It is physically and magically extremely tough; she once threw it in an industrial grinder and the grinder broke before the board. Magically it has a great many seals on it from multiple different magical traditions sourced from the various skaters of Kjelford, all designed not only to allow the board's durability to be reliable against weird shit too but as a potential bulwark in sealing Orochi inside it. Lol, hell no, in its current state there's no way it actually could.
    • Melter always carries a few cans of spraypaint on her hips and a set of shitty walmart-brand bluetooth speakers.
    • The BARRIER KULT INSTANT CEREMONY is a 5 foot long piece of heavy plastic engraved with runes that glow and look metal as fuck. If Melter deploys it by tossing it on the ground, a full Jersey Barrier made of steel-reinforced concrete springs up out of it with extreme force and speed. The barrier remains in place until the base is removed.
    • Marina keeps all her other essential shit like clothes and toiletries and an old beat to shit laptop in an olive drab Jansport.
  • Keepsakes: The skate crew that Marina used to run with gave her a mixtape as a going away present. I'm probably gonna actually make the playlist once I get a better feel for her character.
  • Personality: Marina laughs a lot and projects a big game because she doesn't want anyone to have power over her. She's willing to be nice and compliment people and admit when they're cool too, she's not super tryhard about this angle, but especially when she fights she tries not to let anyone know she's taking things seriously. She certainly does, and when shit gets dire she will drop the act and focus up, but for the most part Marina knows that acting the part has a real, tangible benefit. She doesn't really buy the supposed power of Orochi, and really only trusts in the wiccans and other occultists she's actually met.
  • Bio: Marina is from the shitty rustbelt town of Kjelford, Indiana, and she is trying anything to get out. Even Kjelford's story is boring: a Swedish tradesman seeking to found a town eventually got to the top of a hill and arbitrarily decided, "well, this will do." She grew up in a town whose industry was collapsing as she grew up, and at 17 the final blast furnace closed. She had already picked up skating, but as the jobs closed down she threw herself at it as a secondary source of income, alongside training kids at a local martial arts center. Times were tough though, and at 21 the routine was starting to grind her down. Her combined love of martial arts and skateboarding got her a pretty devoted following on Twitter and Patreon, but she'd never be able to live sustainably on the income, and she'd never be able to live in the same town her parents were no doubt going to die in. Her fans were the ones that saved her though: they suggested she try to enter the King of Fighters tournament. There was another element to it that came from Marina's own personal digging, however: Orochi. That thing could not only bring her fame, but real, material power; she wouldn't just get out of Kjelford, she could rebuild the whole town in her wake! She was already friends with weird wiccans and pagans, so it was easy enough to at least set up the final plan: fortify her board and claim the magical gear necessary to sieze Orochi for herself. Marina declared a challenge to the tournament, that she was going to break out of Kjelford and find a team and bust the strongest fighters over her knee with her unique style and vicious determination! She kept the bit about Orochi to herself.
  • Team: Straight up, I intend to DM folks I already know on Discord if they join this game and figure out if Marina could team up with them.
  • Reason: Marina intends to enter the tournament in order to not only promo her brand and give herself and other skaters greater visibility, but she also intends to up her game even more by trying to contain Orochi in her skateboard—by her reckoning, nobody's tried that before so she figured it might actually work this time.
  • Location: The Kjelford Skatepark is a rundown and abandoned waterpark, converted into a real skatepark by punks smuggling in ramps and rails. It would absolutely be her stage in the fighting game, and if she could pick a location for an exhibition match it would be right there.
  • Theme Song: Superman by Goldfinger, diegetically played on bluetooth speakers deployed before a fight.

  • Name: Daikon
  • Age: 15
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: Daikon is a (5 ft. 2 in. tall, 120 lbs.) wiry 15-year-old girl with dark brown eyes and hair, which is worn shoulder length and tied in a half-ponytail with a red ribbon. She wears a short-sleeved button-up shirt under a dark brown knit vest, a knee-length dark red pleated skirt (with khaki shorts underneath), thick white knee-high cotton socks, a pair of scuffed knee-high combat boots, and a pair of black rectangular wire-rimmed glasses.
  • Abilities:
    • Daikon can improvise deadly weapons and other useful items out of school supplies. In her hands, a thrown half-circle protractor is a viable boomerang, triangle rulers are throwing daggers, and her pencil skills would put John Wick himself to shame.
    • She knows how to ride a bike fairly well.
  • Style: Daikon doesn't really hit very hard, but she makes up for it with nimbleness and quickness to land as many hits as she can before she has to deal with counterattacks. In a fighting game, her archetype would be the Fragile Speedster.
    • Her Special Attack (Throw The Book At Them) is her throwing a book at the opponent at high speeds, and while they are dazed, she rams them with her bicycle.
  • Power Source: She got her powers from her love of academics.
  • Gear:
    • Black Cloth Knapsack: She carries her spare uniform, clothes, and other necessities around in this.
    • Leather Messenger Bag: She carries miscellaneous school supplies/weapons in this.
    • Sleek Bicycle: A bicycle she stole from her older brother. She uses this in her Special Attack.
    • School Uniform: This is basically the equivalent of light armor when worn by Daikon, and helps to reduce her fragility.
  • Weapons:
    • School Supplies: A collection of miscellaneous pencils, rulers, and what-have-you that Daikon uses as weapons.
  • Keepsakes:
    • The red ribbon she wears in her hair symbolizes her promise to herself to stand up for herself.
  • Personality: Daikon is usually very easygoing and laid-back, but can turn hot-blooded whenever someone makes fun of her name. She is intelligent, but hides it for fear of being made fun of. She is also easily excited when learning something new. She really doesn't like seeing people in pain and will help beat up/humiliate the people who caused it.
  • Bio:
    • Daikon was supposed to be named something else, but due to a mix-up between the doctor's grocery list and the naming forms, she got named after a root. This garnered much ridicule from her older brother throughout most of her life. Since her parents wanted a boy, they let him get away with it and made it clear to her that they favored him over her.
    • She hails from a small coastal town on the West Coast of the USA, and developed a strange improvisational ability from the time she started high school. She practiced using it in secret to become good at using it.
    • After her older brother laughed at her expressing interest in the tournament, she stole his bike on a whim and ran off to join said tournament.
  • Team: On Marina and Joanie's team, as discussed on Discord.
  • Reason:
    • Her primary reason for fighting is to show her family up for looking down at her.
  • Location: She would be encountered at the front gates of the high school she attends.
  • Theme Song: "Hey Hey" by Superchick

Name: Gabriel Moon

Nickname: Gabe

Age: 22

Gender: Male

Appearance: About 5'11, light skinned, very toned, with messy silver hair and sharp looking blue eyes. He wears a blue jacket with a wolf on the back, a black t-shirt, dark blue jeans and black sneakers. Generally carries a fang necklace on him.

Abilities: Plays guitar, is a good detective, roller-skater and marksman.

Style: His fighting style is mostly based around Karate, focused around quick and powerful strikes, with a white and silver ki to make them stronger. His techniques are "Moon Fang", charging his hands with ki and launching two punches forming the image of a wolf's fangs (Think a ki charged version of Volg's White Fang), "Howl Blast" an energy wave that makes a howling sound as it flies, "Change Phase", a low kick followed by a side kick, using the ki to propel himself. His "super" is known as "New Moon Assault", which starts with a ki claw slash, followed by several hand thrusts, followed a strong uppercut to send the opponent flying, with a call of "Finishing Touch", he jumps to strike with a Diving Kick, forming a silver wolf and connecting just before they land.

In a fighting game, he'd be a strange case, moving relatively slow, but attacking very quickly.

Power Source: His family has what's known as the "Wolf's Blessing", which gives them access to the wolf ki, which is strong but it's quite wild and unwieldy to use for the untrained. Only through diligent training can someone use it at will without risking mind and body.

Gear: Beyond obvious things like cell phone, a few microphones, cameras a laptop. He carries his essentials in a sports bag, and also has a first aid kit and bandages his hands before a fight.

Weapons: None, although he carries a police baton among his belongings, he won't use it on the fights.

Keepsakes: His fang necklace, a heirloom and was given to him by his father as a sign of how much he progressed with his training and his badge, because he genuinely believes in it.

Personality: A good-natured, friendly and laid back, Gabe is a man that always tries to get along with others. He can act a bit distracted at times, but only to mess with people and surprising them. He can be naive, and a bit impulsive as a rookie cop, but is smarter than that normally. A bit tactless and somewhat shy around girls, but is sincere on his intentions when interactions with others. His mental discipline and diligence are excellent, as he considers them the reason he is still alive, sane and kicking butt.

Bio: On a glance, no one would notice anything off on the Moon family to be more than a regular San Fran family, Two parents, a couple kids, a nice house, a couple office jobs. But underneath that, there was a secret. A mark on the lineage with an origin lost to time, the Wolf's blessing made them strong, but the very power that brought them glory could turn against them, so the family turned to martial arts to not destroy themselves. That's where Gabe was born. He and his younger sister Selene have been trained since childhood by their father Patrick in karate, to keep it under control, quickly showing a lot of potential. While somewhat of a troublemaker as a youth (including accidentally pissing off and ending up fighting off some organized crime members), he always tried to help out, so when he actually started to think about his future, he decided to become a police officer, trying to do some good for others. Passing the training, he found himself investigating a Riot of Blood incident, even if he isn't seeing much progress in its leads, even if he is alone in it.

Team: Letting this one open here.

Reason: Investigating on his own one of the Riot of Blood incidents led him to the King of Fighters Tournament, which he wanted to enter at some point anyway (even if finding a team was always the hard part), to meet some people, like Terry, but the lead to the Orochi issue makes him want to do everything he can to help stopping it.

Location: The police station he works on.

Theme Song: Clair de Lune.

  • Name: Joanie Corona

  • Age: 18

  • Gender: Cis girl

  • Appearance: A young Latina woman with brown skin, golden brown eyes, and short platinum blonde hair (it’s dyed, she’s a natural brunette). Her build is stocky and athletic, and her legs are hyper-advanced prosthetics with retractable roller skates. Her aesthetic can best be described as “neon aerobic chic” - her typical outfit consists of a bright pink leotard, white leather jacket, and sky blue shorts, as well as a bright pink backpack.

  • Abilities:

    • As mentioned before, Joanie is a cyborg with robot legs, with attached roller skates. Thanks to her legs, Joanie can move at hyper-advanced speeds. They’re also very strong, considering they’re made of metal, and if she kicks and/it steps on you, you will feel it.

    • Joanie is an expert roller skater, a skilled street fighter, and a talented enough mechanic to perform upkeep on her legs.

  • Style: A cross between roller disco, roller derby, and street fighting. Her philosophy is “hit ‘em fast and hit ‘em hard” and “always take the cheap shot.”

    • Her special attack is skating towards the enemy as quickly as possible and slamming her knee into the opponent’s face (or, alternately, their groin).

  • Power Source: Love! Jk, it’s the robot legs.

  • Gear: The aforementioned backpack holds the necessities: first-aid kit, a toolbox for leg maintenance, granola bars, and platinum hair dye.

  • Weapons: Fingerless gloves with small blades in the back to pack an extra punch.

  • Keepsakes: A rag doll that she’s had since she was three. It reminds her of her parents.

  • Personality: Joanie is confident, aggressive, and girly. Her belligerence is offset by her bubbliness - she’s one of the perkiest people you’re likely to ever meet, and she’s quite sweet outside of battle. While some have speculated that her cheerfulness is a coping mechanism, the truth is that she’s just a naturally happy person, regardless of what she’s been through. Her experiences as a prisoner have, however, left her with an intense dislike of authority.

  • Bio: When Joanie was two, circulation problems led to her legs being amputated. Luckily for her, her parents were scientists working on advanced prosthetics, and they convinced their colleagues and funders to let Joanie be the test subject.

    • When Joanie was thirteen, her parents lost their funding, and Joanie was taken into custody as property of the corporation that had been bankrolling them.

    • After three years being held captive and trying to escape, Joanie succeeded and began living on her own (believing that if she returned to her parents, she’d only be putting them in danger). After hearing about the tournament, she signed up.

  • Team: Part of Marina and Daikon’s team, as discussed with Taco and Jumping Fruit.

  • Reason: Joanie wants to use the fame and fortune winning the tournament would promise to open her very own roller disco.

  • Location: An abandoned shopping mall in Southern California.

  • Theme Song: “I Didn’t Just Come Here to Dance.”
