Mystique is an interesting case of how an actors star power can negatively affect the character & movies as a whole.
Like she was kinda okay in First Class for the most part because while she did get a more sympathetic portrayal than most cases she was still clearly a supporting character there.
Then Days gave a major role where she herself alone was vital to saving the future & the Apocalypse took it too far & ruined her by portraying her as Mutant Hero & leader of the X-Men.
I have to say if there’s one good thing to come out of the end of the Fox-Men is that we will never have to see this Mystique ever again. I think we can all agree on that, good riddance.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Yeah, can't say I'll be sad when this Mystique is gone either. One of the weakest parts of the entire franchise.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Funny the comics never made her a full hero.
Mileena MadnessOne of the problems with these big franchise films is that they end up seeking out some big talent to build hype, and proceed to do nothing or very little with them. The X-Men, MCU and DCEU are crammed with loads of big names but if you're not a headliner most of them are wasted (Don Cheadle is probably the biggest example, he's still around but Rhodey has so little impact on anything). That goes double for an ensemble film. What often happens too is that despite having so much talent they may either be Money, Dear Boy or simply way off their game trying to act in a blockbuster. Jennifer Lawrence certainly has talent, but a lot of the best actors will struggle under five pounds of make-up and 30 pounds of wardrobe while acting against green screen and actors in bodysuits.
Well it does help that the comics try not to have much synergy with the Fox-Men.
In this case though they were just unwilling to portray Lawrence as anything other than a hero.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."One last hurrah before Jean I guess...resets the universe, and not a Shi’ar in sight, unless that silver haired woman is supposed to be Lilandra or Deathbird.
Personally, after this film, I’m more interested in an MCU Fantastic Four. The X-Men, despite Mystique related hiccups, make more sense in a world where the Avengers aren’t celebrities with Captain America doing PSA’s and their toys being sold.
x5 - Seems more like womanpain at this point. It’s fairly obvious Mystique’s death is going to be the source of Jean’s conflict with the Phoenix Force.

Somewhere out there, Kevin Feige is nodding his head and thinking "Yessss...he gets it."
Does he though?
I mean, Feige was one of the producers for Wolverine & X-Men. But that cartoon had the opposite problem. Everyone written around Jean and that blasted turkey was incompetent.
"one of" is the emphasis here.
The part that hurts both movies is we never see the kind Phoenix always evil ones.
Mileena MadnessThat's probably them trying Nothing Is Scarier, hoping our imaginations will come with the horrific scenarios as result of the Phoenix's rampage
New theme music also a boxJean never chose to be Phoenix. So it’s not exactly a deal with the devil.
Feige hired the writers and developers of that show to work on the Thor trilogy. So it seems he likes their work.

That...HAS to be an inside joke.
Huh, didn't one of the alleged leaks mentioned earlier in the thread claim Jean killed Mystique? I tried to look it up again, but the sub-reddit's down right now. It might have been more accurate then we thought...
Oh wow, there really is an MCU acronym there...
Yeah, I can’t not see it as a coincidence.
Meanwhile, some folks are asking: What if Jessica Chastain is the Phoenix Force itself? (And yes, apparently some have speculated that already.)

So that’s what the wig is for. It’s when she switches to “evil mode”
Rumor has it that sometimes she acts under the secret identity of “Bryce Dallas Howard”.
Anybody notice that the Phoenix Force is pink?
That’s a sure sign it’s evil. Zordon warned us!
I love that line. XD
I like to keep my audience riveted.
Is it really spoilers when they're using the death as the selling point?
On one hand, yet another female character dies to cause manpain. On the other hand, she really was weakest part of the rebooted films.
