I think that's a confirmation that Sony rushed the first teaser out before they even had a complete effect shot for Venom.

Well, it was leaked first.

Tom Hardy's acting and the look of the symbiote is what's seedling me on this. The script not so much.

The tone has potential for me though? If they make the symbiote sufficiently over the top I can buy it. But, like, I have no idea how the villain's are going to manage to be interesting.

T He last scene didn’t seem like it was trying to be badass, it seemed darkly comedic.

I kinda dig it.

Yeah what I think on gounded is more that not being super duper comic book world of silliness which is nice sometimes.

And Eddie being nice was a expected twist, they need to make their hero likable, even to a extent, it was that or just another take of "he is a jerk and then learn to be a non jerk" which, let be serious is kinda overplayed a this point.

I mean Eddie in the comics was a good reporter who made one mistake (and dealt with it very poorly)

All we see in this trailer is that Eddie is a good reporter and he doesn't like people being killed. There's nothing in this trailer to say he isn't a vindictive person like he is in the comics. In fact at one point in the trailer he seems to be coming around to having super powers.

I have to admit, I was more interested in the movie when it didn't have all the added visual effects. The idea of a more psychological horror film with a comic book sci-fi bend would have been refreshing, but this seems to be a lot of big scale stunt work and CG creatures fighting each other. I was hoping it would be more like Logan and less like Spawn.

On the other hand, the rather extensive look of the black symbiote suit (and seemingly other symbiotes) in a lot of different situations does seem to undermine the claim that it would only show up in the last 15 minutes.

I am really loving this Venom design but it is pissing me of that it's attached to this trash. Tom Hardy sounds like Elmer Fudd. At least Bane sounded somewhat menacing.

Yeah, I'd say in the comics, Eddie is actually (pre-symbiote) at his "nicest." He's a devout Catholic and a steadfast reporter with solid integrity. He doesn't fake any news or anything but instead he was the one that was scammed. He then takes it hilariously poorly, but even so, his self-destructiveness is primarily focused inward as he's Driven to Suicide.

I liked Spectacular Spider-Man for giving him more depth and while he's The Ace and just the best, he's also clearly deeply flawed and more or less his good acts were a cover for his self-destructiveness and deep seated issues.

Yeah this take seems a lot closer to canon Eddie Brock than fanon (or more recent) Eddie Brock.

So yeah I love the design of the suit and the character feel of Eddie and the Symbiote.

I just, can't deal, with yet another corrupt ceo. I know this is lifted directly from the comics, but surely there's something more interesting Eddie could be investigating? Something with more depth.

Like, human trafficking (to move symbitoes) or people in positions of power having drug dependencies (ie to a symbiote) or collusion (to a symbiote).

The villain's just seem so last decade and I'm just tired of Hollywood faking being anti-big business.

Technically he’s not corrupt. Corrupt is if he’d be taking money to act against his company or not do his job. Right now he’s just criminal.

True. But I agree that businessman baddies are waaayyy overdone now. The best villain for this version of Venom would probably actually be Carnage, someone who instead of trying to rein in and direct the symbiote's aggression and bloodlust actively embraced it, leaving Brock with the quandary of how far he will go to stop Carnage...

Carnage is a sequel character through-and-through, though.

Having Carnage be the villain in the first movie would be like... well, like having Venom be the villain in the first Spider-Man movie. They're both derivative characters whose origin isn't tied to the hero's origin, thus fitting them in would feel rushed and chaotic, plus they're probably the most iconic villain and thanks to Movie Supervillains Die (especially in Carnage's case, where not killing him would be... hard), saving them for a sequel makes sense.

The trailer features a cop that appears to be infected with a part of the symbiote. They probably could have just used her as the main villain.

Of course they shot themselves in the foot. By having Symbiotes as the villains now, it removes much of the interest in Carnage.

Not only did they give Carnage's most iconic scene to another symbiote, but if they do use Carnage... who cares? From the looks of it, Venom will have fought 2 symbiotes already. What's a third one?

[up][up][up] Good points all. "Lethal Protector" Venom faces a similar problem to the Punisher in that he's, well, Lethal. Leaving baddies alive is both out of character and risks diminishing his credentials. The other problem is that with other symbiotic villains in this film, it reduces Carnage (should he ever appear) to just another symbiote.

"I'm just tired of Hollywood faking being anti-big business."

I think is more that evil ceo is just easier to write, they have the means to do their evil and their are evil because they are greedy.

But yeah, is annoying, one of thing I like about Bv S luthor(annoying as he was) as they tone down is evil ceo ways for mad scientist, I was expecting the same here.

If I didn't know better, I'd think there was some kind of plan to give standalone films to all of the best known and most popular supporting Spider-Man characters so they can't be used in the MCU-connected movies.
