This show as people said really reminds me of Evil Con Carne, which had a really short run but was fun in my opinion.

I liked Evil Con Carne more than Billy & Mandy.

I still haven't seen Villainous, but I'm really glad there's a semi-high-profile Mexican cartoon taking the internet by storm. It used to be that when you said "Mexican cartoon," people immediately thought of The Nutshack (which isn't even Mexican).

Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

Only found this recently. These shorts are hilarious. Though, I have two questions:

1. Why hasn't Dr Flug just up and legged it by now?

2. What is Dementia even for? In-story, I mean.

1. Dr. Flug is possibly Black hat's intern and he's probably a big fan of him.

2. She's probably just there an Unrequited Love Interest

I honestly have no idea. But I guess the executives thought he needed a female lead.

I don't think she has a job. They just couldn't get rid of her and she stuck around. Honestly, with so little employees, they all have probably multi-purpose "minion" job.

Considering Dementia is Black Hat's biggest (and most unstable) fan, I imagine she's around because, well, she's Black Hat's biggest and most unstable fan and probably wants to hang around his place of business or something.

Villainous Phase 2 has been announced.

Alan must be over the moon right now.

(Comics, a new set of shorts, something on Youtube, and an eleven minute TV pilot.)

Well, I saw all the shorts a few days ago, and I gotta say, this looks like an interesting black comedy. I just hope that if it gets turned into a full series, it doesn't devolve into crude toilet humor or anything else that's over-reliant on shock value.

So Phase 2 has been ongoing for a while, with the webisodes being centred around Blank Hat criticising past Cartoon Network villains for their incompetence. For the most part, they don’t really present anything new character-wise aside from Black Hat. He’s shown to lose his temper quickly by devolving into making creepy faces and has a certain disdain for his audience (whom he continues to pitch his products to, oddly enough).

But this websode, just released today, is what I’d consider to be a Wham Episode. Black Hat rage quits, leading Flug to take over the episode instead. Flug’s evil scientist side finally gets a moment to shine, though he still retains paternal love for 5.0.5. While he empathises with Mojo Jojo’s desire to have the world recognise his genuis, he also doesn’t have any qualms about torturing him.

Also a rare appearance by Dementia, who’s apparently dangerous and disruptive enough to require protocol to put her down. Her “Dementia Tips” are weirdly whimsical, though there’s a moment of darkness.

Official Spanish release:

English subbed version:

(BTW, the English broadcast of the original 10 shorts are up on the Latin America Cartoon Network channel. Go support those as well!)

also there’s this thing going on. Some kind of ARG...?

The sudden appearance of Nicole killing Granny Jojo made me laugh.

Alright so, going through each of the four Villain Orientation vids.

Black Hat on Lemongrab: Okay so this is incredibly bland. It's just Black Hat mocking Lemongrab for 11 minutes while recapping Too Young and You Made Me, not much substance. I mean I guess there's funny bits here and there (him insisting Bubblegum was the real villain was funny and...honestly kind of true-ish, plus the end with Lemongrab getting squeezed was funny) but it's just not engaging. Also, given these are only in Spanish so far, I can't help but comment on the dub of Adventure Time there, and good god whoever is dubbing Lemongrab sucks. He sounds too restrained compared to Justin Roiland. Whoever does Finn's voice is aces though.

Black Hat on Nohyas: Eh, better. I fell out of Mighty Magiswords because frankly it's really bad but despite the repetitiveness of this one, there's still some good jokes there (Flug shedding a single tear while staring into space to the tune of that song from Pagliacci was hilarious). Plus I liked the shout outs to other Cartoon Network shows in the credits. These videos actually have a lot of shout-outs to other Cartoon Network shows, and not just the original ones, the DCAU shows get referenced too. Still kinda lame, still more of the same, but it's getting a little bit better.

Black Hat on Lord Boxman: Well judging by this, apparently Nicole Watterson from Gumball was in a villain school taught by the Perfectionist from Courage the Cowardly Dog with Lord Boxman, a xenomorph, Mercenary Tao, and I'm guessing Flug as her fellow students. Lord Boxman pissed Black Hat off in a super funny manner through his sheer incompetence, and it was great. Oh and the credits being randomly Japanese were a weird but funny touch. Two comments about the dub: First off, holy shit KO and Lord Boxman sound fucking awful there. Second, gonna praise Rad's voice in the dub because he sounds eerily similar to Ian JQ.

Black Hat on Mojo Jojo: This one was fucking great, I love it. The narrator of The Powerpuff Girls crashing the video, then Dementia crashing it and being creepy and funny, Flug showing his darker side and outright torturing Mojo Jojo for his mistakes, more shoutouts (Numbah One losing his hair and Nicole Watterson killing Granny Jojo), I was grinning through the majority of this one. They keep getting better with each installment. Also I find it kinda funny how Mojo Jojo's name in Spanish is pronounced exactly how I expected it'd be pronounced and it really is as silly as I thought it would be.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

Did anyone catch that image at the end of Mojo video? I slew down the video to 0.25 and I barely did. note

It looks like a colorless photo of five young heroic looking characters, two of them have blurred faces and three only covered eyes. Then image jumps to these three having blank faces with black eyes. They also wear black hats and tuxedos.

I've yet to see it, but from the description, they sound like they could be a recurring superhero team of Hero Antagonists for Black Hat and Co. if/when Villainous becomes a full-fledged show?

From a post on the studio's Twitter, it looks like there's going to be a Valentine's special? I'm pumped, personally.

Knowing what we've seen so far, I have a feeling it's going to be as crazy out as the Zim Valentine special.

You know the reason why I like Villainous is that I feel like Black Hat feels more competent than many other Villain Protagonists on other shows. Black Hat doesn't do Poke the Poodle style evil, but he straight up goes out of his way to be a complete dick in every way he can.

[up] I agree and disagree with you on there.

Basically compare to the likes of Zim and Hector con Carne, they have one of said traits that Black Hat has (competence and dickness). Zim is obviously not a competent villain seeing how much he fails as an invader (from accidentally attacking his homeworld to barely succeeding im conquest due to petty squabbles), however there is no denying that he wouldn’t cross the line in doing horrible things like experimenting on living things, betraying his own comrades, causing untold chaos and destruction, and eating waffles. Meanwhile Hector con Carne doesn’t do a lot of dog kicking aside from the usual apathy towards his minions thoughts and feelings; however he is still a leader of one of the worlds most dangerous terrorist organizations who usually is stop by the US’s greatest soldier, Cod Commando, and has often came very close to taking over the planet with his schemes (hell even in the Billy & Mandy episode where he lost his main base of opperation and fortunes, he still end up being a legitimate threat with his rubber band scheme which made even Death shit his pants).

But yeah because Black Hat has both of these traits, it definitely makes him more unique protagonist to watch as he can and will cross the line Hector will not and actually have focus in his schemes unlike Zim. So the true entertainment will come in how overly dickish the guy is, and what outside force will eventually come in to ruin his plans.

. . . Oh shit, I forgot to mention Dr. Doofensmirtz who basically have none of the two traits of Black Hat. I mean, he technically counts as a villain protagonist during the B Plot of the show, since the actual hero (Perry the Plathypus) doesn’t do a lot of talking and the focus is mostly on what backstory fuels the doctor to do “”””evil””””.

Black Hat is like a more inhuman Murdoc from Gorillaz, especially with the Cockney accent. With the fact that he's more competent and outright assholish, the humor comes from his minions being the ones who are always screwing up everything.

I swore there was a thread for this show, but I couldn't find it when this was new, so I improvised and stuck it on the general Cartoon Network thread but whatever!

Who's ready for some massive    EVIL?!
