We have two old threads about weather, but neither one is about talking about your favorite weather. So that's what this thread is for.

I don't know about you, but I love rain! There's that awesome, chilling atmosphere just before it rains, and I love looking up at the storm clouds - it's the same awed kind of feeling you'd get by looking at, say, a whale.

First, I'm a fan of snow. Nice, cold, sometimes yellow...

Second, screw you for that pun.

Really cold weather, below twenty degrees. Running in the cold is such a wonderful feeling.

I have a funny random confession to make. Even though I just said I love warm and sunny weather, when I was a kid, I used to dread spring. ^_^;;

Here's what happened. Back then, whenever spring came around, there were all these religious obligations that I absolutely had to meet, and my homework assignments either got more difficult or more numerous, sometimes both. x_x

The April Crunch as I'd call it. Same thing happened to me as a kid. Schoolwork would become far more numerous or difficult from spring break until mid-May. Throw in standardized testing at the same time and it made for not fun school.

Then in late May everyone stopped giving a fuck and the schoolwork rapidly vanished and came to a close (barring finals in high school).

And now that I work in schools, not much has changed from what I see. The workload just gets harder and harder over the school year particularly around March-April with all kinds of events and testing going on then it just kinda falls off in the last couple weeks.

Any weather is fine as long as two weather scenarios don’t mix, like a sunny rainstorm or lightning during a snow storm, you get the idea.

I dislike hot and humid weather.

My favorite is mild (around 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit) with big puffy white clouds in the sky, and a bit cooler in the evenings.

I like some rain too, but not every single day.

Stupid doomed timeline...

[up]Ironically, I did entertain the idea of moving to Seattle for a while (since a lot of the friends I made thanks to my old WoW guild, Arcane Destiny, live there), but then some odd years ago, my own hometown got so many rainy days in a row, it brought down my mood for a while. :( It's what motivated me to move to Texas and then Florida. They don't call it "the Sunshine State" for nothin'. ;) (No offense any tropers who live in the Pacific Northwest ^_^;;)

To be honest, I think I would like to see thundersnow.

It's overrated. We get it from time to time particularly in the spring in Colorado. Rarely does it last more than two or three strikes of lightning at most. Usually when it happens it's a "wtf?" moment, nothing to be in awe about.

And the funniest thing is, I once read an article on Earthsky about bizarre weather phenomena (including thundersnow) and they postulate that thundersnow only occurs in the coldest of snowstorms because of sudden changes is density of the air. It couldn't be further from the truth, you usually see it in the spring here because the increasing temperatures cause the snowstorms to roil around internally like a thunderstorm.

I know August has been somewhat on the hotter side this year (after a comparably cold later half of July in my parts) but new world records in Death Valley?

I've known of temps higher than that.

i mean, those other temps just have disputed readings. this is the highest reliable reading so far.

and "cold July"? where do you live? the latter half of july has been fucking two whole weeks of heat waves where i am.

and "cold July"? where do you live?

At the base of the Wet Mountains in Colorado. We had a comparatively cold July for its last two weeks, combination of monsoon season (which is normal) and a number of oddly cool days. How cool? Normal high temperature in nearby Pueblo is roughly 86F (30C) for summer and if you've lived in the area for any real length of time you know it's always hotter than that. Well, a few of those days never reached 80F (~27C) which is cold by June/July/August standards. Even at my house where it's cooler than Pueblo by a few degrees, under 80 is a cold day in summer.

Predictably, the cooler weather killed the monsoon and we've had very little rain in August when it's supposed to be daily.
