This is really a non-character. However it can still be part of the setting. Will be listed under Other Ideas.

Some NPC super powered thugs. Together, they are a criminal mercenary gang that simply call themselves "H & 5th", in reference to the address they first based at. They've never gone back to old haunt, however, too hot. They may be hired individually, in pairs or as a whole group.

Anyone may feel free to suggest more.

Dual

  • Polly Castores, villainous mercenary, thug
  • Dual has both a suite of metahuman abilities and a sweet ass magic coat.
    • She has 360-degree vision, x-ray vision that combines with the former, jacked up super reflexes that borders on danger sense and just past peak-baseline physical condition without effort. She combines this with a slew of martial arts she's picked up over the years.
    • Her magic coat has wide-sleeves that lead to some kinda Hyperspace Arsenal. Weapons will appear above her wrists, ready to use, thematically in pairs. This includes two claws blades over each of her wrists and two double-barreled shotguns. She doesn't hold these things, they just appear over her wrists, ready to use. She has to stuff shotgun shells inside though, but that's the only upkeep she's ever needed to provide.
  • Face, extremely boy-ish, add sunglasses. Coat, just the top-half and in a gray-blue color. On a whole, she is rather butch.
  • She is the most level-headed of H & 5th and is their de-facto leader. It's through her contacts they get many of their jobs. She enjoys the challenge of her work but balances it with a healthy respect of practical realities. She has become deadly loyal to her crew.
  • Polly has lead a checkered past. In her youth, she only had the 360 degree vision and a physical condition below peak-human with intense training. She signed on as a hench wench to Mr. Mad 1 before Project Eden, as his interest in the occult intensified and he wanted to spelunk some ancient ruins for arcane artifacts. He never uncovered anything concrete, but the amount of lore and clues he found proved to be of great interest. As per their agreement, he put her through some genetic enhancement procedures, unlocking the full potential of her metagene.
    • After their contract ended, Polly did some exploring of her own, did some villainous adventuring, honed her skills even further and eventually came upon the magic coat that would become her iconic piece.
    • As the criminal mercenary Dual, she ended up making contact with several like-minded supers. They formed H & 5th Gang for mutual protection as well genuine affection for each other. More than once has she had to go and break one of her crew out of jail, the same favor being afforded to her.

Brick Joke

  • Minerva Mills, villainous mercenary, thug
  • She is a Mighty Glacier. Her metagene transformed her into a towering amazon of a woman. High upper-tier Super-Strength and Super-Toughness. She also got her mitts on some super-science gravity boots that anchor her into place when she activates it by curling her toes.
  • Here. Even as a supervillain, she likes to dress-up, put on make-up and be pretty.
  • Minerva doesn't enjoy putting a lot of effort into thinking. When pressed, she can be quite insightful but is proven to be mentally lazy. She much rather let someone else do the cerebral heavy lifting.
    • Like the rest of H & 5th, she's developed a deadly loyalty to the rest of the crew.
  • Minerva used to be a model but found the work unchallenging and dull, so she turned to crime. That's it, that's her entire motivation. She was bored. She apparently had aspirations to be a stand-up comedian but was revealed to have stage fright. She stills peppers her speech with sly, observation humor.

Blood Knight

  • Maxwell Ratnoff, villainous mercenary, thug
  • He wears a set of armor, breast plate and helmet, and dual wields a pair of falcata. He sincerely believes they are magical, possessed by a blood thirsty demon, but they're actually super-science, possessed by a blood thirsty AI.
    • The AI resides in the helmet, interfacing with his brain, providing him with a tactical read-out of his surrounding complete with high tech sensors and enhanced reflexes, doing a whole lot of his thinking for him. It can protect his mind from mental attacks, mostly the non-magical kind but it's not completely defenseless there either. Also has wifi and mp4 capabilities, but Maxwell doesn't know about those.
    • The breast plate projects a skin tight force field around his body, simulating the powers of a low-level TK Superman, like Superboy, without the flight. Strength, speed, toughness, that's all his though.
    • The swords also can move on their own but, integrated with his nervous system, do as he wills. They project a matter disrupting power fields, crackling with electricity as they cut through almost anything. At a thought, they'll attach themselves to the breast plate's back or fly into his hands.
  • Scrawny Guy Helmet Breastplate Swords
  • Maxwell primarily wants to be a bad ass who makes lots of money, and has enough of a homicidal, sadistic streak to mesh well with the Blood Knight AI. The AI wants to rip and tear, until it's done. It likes killing people, but also holds an affection and loyalty to its host.
    • Maxwell is deadly loyal to the H & 5th gang. He has this alpha male thing going on where he tries to assert himself as Brick Joke and Dual's knight in shining armor. It's embarassing but like watching a puppy piss on the carpet embarassing. They pity him.
  • Max found the Blood Knight armor in the basement of some abandoned mansion. Unknown to him, it was the last creation of some old-timey mad science villain, trying to outfit his super army for world conquest. That never took off cause an old-timey superhero busted through his roof and carted him off to jail forever.
    • Max ran around being a bad ass supervillain for a while, taking over a few gangs by decimating their ranks, but his blind ambition and aggression nearly brought the heat down on his head from both sides of the law. He got picked up by Dual, taken far away and she's been slowly showing him the ropes.
    • Occasionally, the AI will take over his body while he sleeps. The rest of the gang is aware of this but have come to realize the intelligence within means him no harm. They're pretty damn sure it's not magic, considering how it tinkers with itself during these episodes, but no one has had the heart to tell him.

Matter Mind

  • Edgar Chase, villainous mercenary, thug
  • Telekinesis, very powerful. It's stronger than his physical body, by several orders of magnitudes, but directly proportional to his bodily strength, so he's alwaus working out. It's all he has, but he's honed it into different applications, such as flight, force fields and sonic shouts. Hand gestures and body movements are not required but he can't help but accompany any TK with them, telegraphing what he's doing.
  • Muscular guy. Takes a lot of amusement in how people rarely see his TK coming for the build he has. Normally walks around in black pants and a tank top.
  • Dual's second-in-command for his own level-headedness. He's got a bit of macho vanity going on, but tones it down around Blood Knight, mostly not to butt heads with the kid. In a fight, where he's pushed, he gets angry, fast, and gets aggressive quickly.
  • Rather simple story; he grew up in a run-down rural town in Illinois. He got involved in drug running for lack of better prospects and was nearly beaten to death by a rival gang out in the woods, gaining super powers in respons. He since took up super villainy.

  • Identity: Primal
  • Powers & Abilities: Primal feeds off of pain and suffering he himself causes. He can spew dangerous hellfire, which makes a person experience the maximum of a person can deal with, and leave their corpse a shrivelled, burned and dusty thing. He has all the strength of Dragon Man, and is so demented, that his mind is practically a bear trap covered in barb wire.
  • Description: He took control of Dragon Man's body, and will use it for all it's worth. He always has a sadistic grin on his face, however. His true form is that of a demonic looking dragon.
  • Personality: Primal enjoys causing pain and suffering. He feeds off of such things. He is sadistic and mad with his own power.
  • Background: When the magic of Drakon came into contact with that of the Monster, it resulted in the creation of something truly monstrous.

Hello all! Friend of taco's here, with a lot of ideas. Hope I can get along with y'all.

Identity:

  • Name: Maria Reyes
  • Codename: Arthuria
  • Faction: Hero
  • Job: Odd-jobs and general handy-woman for a local church.
  • Status: Public

Powers/Abilities:

  • Kingly Charisma: As the heir to King Arthur, Maria has all of his charisma and nobility, drawing like minded individuals to her. Eventually, she hopes to form her "New Camelot" here in Easton City.
  • Excalibur: As one might expect, Maria's biggest power comes from her ancestor's holy blade, Excalibur. While wielding it, her speed, strength, and durability are all boosted. Furthermore, it can manifest a suit of magical armor that can resist even bullets. The scabbard, in accordance with legend, can also heal her wounds, in a reasonable, but not instant, amount of time.
  • Beato: Finally, she is blessed with a magical stead, Beato. He has three forms that he can switch between - a muscle car, a motorcycle, and a living horse. Being magical in nature, this horse is more durable than one might expect, and able to perform some astonishing feats in any of his three forms.

Weaknesses:

  • Overbearing Mercy: Maria has the mercy of a saint, and believes everyone deserves a second change. As such, she can be fooled somewhat easily into letting people off the hook who she really shouldn't.
  • Range: As is, she has no real answers to a ranged attacker. While she can certainly withstand gunfire, she needs to close in on any opponents in order to be effective.
  • Disarmament: If she becomes separated from Excalibur, Maria drops down to a human level - admittedly, one in in peak condition - but still human.
  • Prophesied Death: Maria is destined to die upon the blade Clarent, like her father before her, and every heir since that sword was used to kill Arthur himself.

Description:

Personality:

  • Snarky Exterior: Maria is sarcastic, jokey, and all around not what you'd expect from Arthur's heir - at first glance. However, underneath it all, she is friendly and open, and pretty easy to get along with. She has the same magnetic draw that helped her ancestor forge together Logres and the Round Table.
  • Underlying Virtue: Maria is loyal, courageous, and faithful. In fact, while she isn't necessarily the best at practicing it, her Catholic upbringing is a huge part of her person, and her morality. Just like her ancestor, she sees herself as a champion of God and the Church - more specifically, not the hierarchy of the Church, but what she thinks it should stand for. (She's a pretty big fan of Pope Francis).

Background:

  • Raised as the Heir (Birth - Age 9): In her early years, Maria was raised as the secret heir to the Pendragon line, by her father, who was in turn raised by his father as such. However, when she was nine, the secret society known as the Order of Le Fay managed to catch up with them, and killed her father just as they killed her grandfather, and every heir before them. Fleeing with the sword, Maria managed to hide out, and lose them.
  • Orphaned Princess (Age 9 - Age 16): After that event, she bounced around the foster system, as so many before her had. This was a bad time for her, to say the least.
  • Knight in Training : (Age 16 - Age 19): Until she was adopted by an old, bearded man, calling himself Ambrosius. He, in turn, trained her in how best to use her ancestor's sword. This is also the time span in which she first met Beato, who she claims descended from the heavens in a shower of light - a gift from God.
  • Queen Apparent (Age 19 - Now): Now, in Easton City, she hopes to make a name for herself, fighting evil and defending the weak, in order to draw like minded individuals to her, and form her new Round Table. Her endgame: to destroy the Order of Le Fay completely, and avenge her family, while also breaking the curse of Clarent.

That should about sum it up. If there's any problems, I'm more than happy to workshop it.

Monstermash

Identity: Cassie King

Alignment: Hero

Job: High school student

Identity Status: Public

Powers: Vampiric Transformation - She has a vampire's power to assume the form of a bat or a gas.

Werewolf's Claws - They are quite sharp.

Flight - Using her demonic wings.

Tentacles - Six of them protrude from her back and can lift hundreds of pounds each.

Fangs - She doesn't make a habit of biting people, but it would hurt like hell all the same.

Living Dead - Cannot die unless her head is destroyed. Because she's already dead. Losing her body would suck though.

Bloodsucker - She could suck blood if she really wanted to. She doesn't need to though, so why would she?

Weaknesses: Garlic - She becomes physically ill in the presence of garlic.

Holy Items - She is repelled by holy symbols and blessed objects.

Silver - Silver weapons cause her debilitating pain.

Personality: Cassie is a happy go lucky optimist who sees the best in even her current situation. She has no desire to be a superhero, but still can't let people suffer when there's something she can do about it.

Description: Cassie is a teenage girl with cherry red skin, vampiric fangs, demonic wings and curled horns, the furry arms and claws of a werewolf, and six monstrous green tentacles protruding from her back.

Background: Dr. Thomas King was a certified mad scientist. But that didn't mean as much as it used to in an oversaturated job market. Determined to create something truly great and make his mark on Easton, he made it his life's work to travel the world, gathering blood samples from different monsters, including a vampire, a demon, a werewolf, and a tentacle horror.

Eventually he settled down and had a daughter, but he didn't give up his work. After years of research, he combined the blood samples into a highly mutagenic serum. And then he left it in the fridge. Where 6 year old Cassie drank it after mistaking it for juice.

Thomas was horrified, but the mutagenic serum seemed to have no effect on his daughter. Aghast at what he had almost done, the doctor turned himself in to the authorities.

A decade later, 16 year old Cassie was run over and killed by a drunk driver, which should have been the end of her story. But it wasn't. Her corpse started to horrifically mutate into a monstrous form, and then she got up, one of the living dead. Her new physiology is taking some getting used to, but she is trying to continue her normal life despite her circumstances.

[up]Man, I'd love to stat her dad. Was he an Artificer, warping reality to make his inventions work, an Intuitive Mage who mistook what he did as science or, scariest of all, a true Mage-Artificer, who warped the laws of magic until they did what he wanted?

I'd say he's more of a comic book scientist than a mage of any kind. I'd even go as far as to say that most of his inventions besides the monster serum relied purely on science. The monster blood introduced an element of magic, which is probably why it didn't work as intended.

Got bored and decided to try some formatting for the Background section. Hopefully it works and isn't too obnoxious? Oh, also, BluBeri's very satisfying formatting inspired me, so when I next set up a new character I may be copying.

Identity: Self-Portrait

Alignment: Villain (Neutral?)

Secret Identity: N/A

Powers:

  • Abstract Art: Extraordinarily durable, and can only be permanently killed via the destruction of its corresponding work of art; if destroyed via other means, it reforms approximately 3 days later. Additionally, may temporarily integrate itself into other works of art to see through them and interact with them.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Can create works of art with similar properties to Abstract denizens. However, instead of forming bodies that then act as them while still anchored to the original work, the works become the bodies (paintings may "peel off" their canvases, and so on), and are not as durable as the true denizens (although their strength doesn't show it). They do not reform if destroyed, and are perceivably "worse" than true Abstract denizens, especially because, lacking artistic vision, Self-Portrait is incapable of bestowing thematic gifts and powers upon its creations. However, it is able to communicate with them all telepathically (although it is a magical link, psychic jammers would cause some interference).

Weaknesses:

  • Censorship: Destroying the original work immediately and irrevocably destroys the body in a similar fashion. In addition, editing the work damages the body until the work is restored to its former state.
  • Fabricated Entity: The denizens of the Abstract do not belong outside of the works of Novacas. Anybody who has spent sufficient time around the paranormal could immediately identify that the denizens' bodies do not belong in this world, regardless of disguises, and at a glance would know that something is off about any pictures, no matter how little they would normally know. In addition, each work by Novacas radiates power proportional to its presence; by far the strongest is the Patchwork World itself, which is nearly overpowering for most. Even for a completely standard civilian, the bodies seem off and may produce headaches in the latently psychic, and the art seems ethereal and almost alive (a quality which the gallery staff consider both positive and profitable).

Description:

Nearly but not quite a man, Self-Portrait sports a brown suit and brown shoes of reasonable quality. Its hair is brown and includes a goatee. Oh, and it lacks ears, eyes, a mouth, a nose, and any similar facial features, not that that stops it from seeing, hearing, and speaking. Its painting isn't as creepy; rather than lacking facial features, it is turned away to face the canvas it is painting on, its palette covering any view of its head apart from the hair.

Personality:

Generally rash and determined to bring back his "Father", Self-Portrait is basically the poster boy for abandonment, and he sincerely believes he would give anything to get Novacas back. That isn't to say he's all grr grr grimdark, however; he's been working on his people skills using others in the Abstract so he could actually get some coherent speech out of his guests, to little effect, sadly. He has made a habit of taking people at their word, and so is a rather gullible individual, although he does still acknowledge that others can be wrong.

Background:

"Painted in 1934, 'Self-Portrait' is commentary on the reclusive nature of artists, and a view into the mind of Novacas himself. It demonstrates his desire for privacy, and shows his love for his art by having it be the focal point of the painting itself."
First paragraph of Self-Portrait's entry in the audio tour given to Gallery guests
  • A painting by Novacas, who, after the bout of inspiration resulted in an imperfect visage of himself, decided that he needed an heir. He attempted to teach Self-Portrait the arts of leadership, but was not the best teacher. That said, as all the Fabricated are effectively siblings, his limited charisma has been enough to unite them after the disappearance of Novacas.
  • Determined to reunite the family, Self-Portrait has been looking for a way to exist beyond the borders of the Patchwork World for several decades, to little success. As such, its efforts had been focused on the locations of experts in the occult.

Who said I was going for creepy?

My goal was to shove a bunch of monsters into a blender for my own amusement. And by doing so create the most over-the-top Halloween themed character possible.

I mean thematically. Most people would go OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL IS THAT! at seeing Monstermash, while Self-Portrait looks like Slenderman, at worst. But she's nice enough while he might (innocently) put someone through a living nightmare.

Just an NPC for now, though I may play him eventually. Thought I'd make someone kind of insufferable for once. If there are any existing villains who fit they could be slotted into the incident in his backstory but I didn't want to make any up just for that.

Percussion

  • Identity: Alastair Lennox, hero with a very public identity. Describes himself as a 'hero and adventurer' but clearly wants to be a celebrity.
  • Powers & Abilities:
    • Percussion suit: Alastair has no powers of his own and instead gets them all from the Percussion suit, Power Armour made by Ekho Industries. Because of this, if the suit is disabled he's immediately back down to normal human level. The suit offers additional protection and enhanced strength but it's most notable feature is the ability to absorb energy from physical hits and re-emit it as sound.
      • Sonic blasts: This takes the form of powerful percussive blasts emitted from the gauntlets and boots of the suit, which can be used as an attack or method of propulsion. ((To avoid clashing too badly with Reverb, 'destructive blast' is his only setting; he has little control over it beyond turning it down to avoid killing weaker enemies or destroying surroundings))
      • Information systems: The helmet is fitted with a HUD which can display various information. It also has a communications system run through a satellite connection, allowing him to communicate with a team of hired mission control. ((Treat mission control as minions - essentially just a Voice with an Internet Connection, not a proper character)) He can also interface with various machines, although he'll be blocked by sufficient security.
      • Additional features: Each arm has a retractable stun gun, more powerful than commercial models but still only useful on normal humans. The left arm also has an extendable blade while the right has an unfolding shield. The suit has small concealed air tanks and a filter built into the mask, so he can avoid gaseous attacks and briefly survive in limited air levels. The suit also has various lights and speakers concealed within the plating.
    • Mechanical aptitude: Alastair is fairly skilled with mechanics and can perform minor repairs and maintenance on the suit or other technology. However, his skills are limited so for more major repairs or upgrades he has to return the suit to Ekho techs.
  • Description: Alastair is a reasonably handsome guy, just hitting 20 years old and about 6' tall. Naturally white and pale but generally tanned, be it real or fake, and with a reasonably muscular build thanks to a team of personal trainers. He has brown hair in a meticulously groomed undercut and deep blue eyes.
    • The Percussion suit is heavy and bulky, adding a few extra feet to his height. The armour's external layer is made of interlocking metal plates, decorated with a chrome silver base and black panels which resemble speakers. The helmet has a large v-shaped visor and a series of metal plates which can retract to reveal his face (pure vanity, given the obvious tactical disadvantage). All of the various weapons are retractable, so it can look less violent when not fighting.
  • Personality: Alastair is generally friendly but self-confident to a fault, considering himself god's gift to pretty much everything. While he does genuinely want to do good, he's very much spoiled and used to getting what he wants, so he can be arrogant at times. He considers himself a celebrity and is fairly well-known (despite having little relevance despite money and contacts), turning up in tabloids often and having a big presence on social media but is far from A-list. He craves attention, so he often turns his heroics into a publicity stunt and purposefully makes drama with other heroes; in particular, he seems determined to date his way through the entire superhero scene. Despite his numerous annoying quantities, he is capable of taking things seriously and when things get desperate he can be relied upon.
  • Background:
    • Alastair was the son of Isobel Lennox, owner of Ekho Industries and was the fairly typical spoiled rich brat growing up, getting into trouble and getting bailed out by his rich family. However, while he grew up, Ekho Industries was growing larger and his mother more ambitious.
    • Eventually, Ekho Industries started supplying super-level technology to anyone who could pay and while it was theoretically secret, the word got out among anyone connected enough. Much of the R&D was focused in a hidden lab underneath an old manor owned by his father's family. A team of low-level supervillains found out about the lab and decided to raid it, looking for an upgrade. They attempted to sneak in while a charity ball was being held at the manor but their subterfuge failed horribly and they turned violent. The villains managed to shut down the tech used by the security guards, allowing them to create a hostage situation, but their attempts to get into the lab just triggered the security systems and sealed it. Alastair managed to activate a hidden process in the security systems, unlocking a cache of tech hidden in the manor. Using this he made his way through the manor and caught the villains off-guard, defeating them one by one. Eventually he came face-to-face with the leader, who was keeping the rest of the party guests hostage. Overconfident from his success, Alastair started boasting and lost the advantage of surprise, letting the villain get a shot out and knock him down. As his life was at risk, his parents tried to stand up to the villain, resulting in his father getting fatally shot. By the time backup could arrive, the villain had escaped and his father was beyond medical help.
    • After his father died, Alastair started investigating the super-tech side of Ekho's manufacturing. He managed to recover the tech he'd used in the manor incident and tried using it to become a hero in London, guilty for not saving his father but also craving the adrenaline rush. With zero training, he failed quickly and had to be bailed out by the other local heroes. However, on learning of his actions his mother didn't disapprove; instead, she saw opportunity.
    • Ekho Industries created the Percussion suit, crafting a superhero persona for Alastair. At first they sent him only on easy rescue missions and tried to use this to build PR. Although it worked to an extent, he quickly became tempted by fame and made his identity public. Although he legitimately wanted to help people, his vanity continuously won out. As such, he became a fairly controversial figure; some legitimately like him and find interest in his exploits, while others hate him for his irritating attitude and clear grasping for fame. Nonetheless, he continued acting as a superhero and now travels the world, fighting evil and gaining publicity.

DYNAMO LASS

  • Identity: Ramona Spaulding, superhero and public identity. She's kind of a celebrity; while not super-famous, she's pretty well-known.
  • Powers:
    • Plasmoid energy generation and manipulation: Ramona is able to generate bright bursts of exploding energy plasmoids that resemble fireworks. She can control these bursts and arrange them as she desires, and she can control their intensity: from harmless bursts of sparkles to massive explosions.
    • She's also trained in martial arts and parkour techniques (since she can't fly).
  • Description: A fifteen year old blonde blue-eyed athletically built Caucasian girl, wearing a red and white star-spangled spandex minidress and blue waist-length cape, domino mask, and boots.
    • Ray is a balding Caucasian man, blond and blue-eyed. He was considered very handsome in his youth- not so much now. He's constantly smiling. Some people find it creepy.
  • Personality: When in public, Ramona projects the image of a cheerful, wholesome, all-American girl next door with a penchant for corny puns and long-winded speeches about liberty and freedom and whatnot. In private, she's much more withdrawn and prone to angry outbursts. She generally does whatever her father tells her, although she secretly resents having her life dictated. Due to essentially dropping out of school after fifth grade, she's fairly book dumb, and she hates being reminded of this. Ramona has a lot of self-esteem issues, but she hides them behind a facade of confidence whether she's on the job or not. Ramona likes being a superhero (especially punching people), but she hates her costume, hates that her powers are only good for blowing stuff up, and resents herself for not standing up to her dad.
    • Ray was a shameless Attention Whore in his youth, and nowadays he channels that into promoting his daughter's career. He's living vicariously through Ramona, though he'll deny it- he's doing this because she wants to, and he loves her, and how dare you imply he's using her, you monster. He acts overly affectionate and vaguely patronizing to Ramona, especially when he's pushing her. He may be goofy, but he's a very skilled manipulator, and he's going to take his daughter to the top, whether she wants it or not.
  • Background:
    • Ray Spaulding was active as the energy projecting superhero Dynamik in the early '90s. He lost his powers due to being shot with a mad scientist's ray that removed the cosmic radiation that empowered him. The powerless Ray was kicked off the superhero team Maximum Force. He retired and got married, but he never really got over losing his powers or his career.
    • In 1999, Ramona Spaulding was born. She was a bitterly shy, withdrawn child, not helped by her parents' divorce when she was nine.
    • Her powers manifested when she was ten due to residual radiation altering her father's DNA. Ray convinced Ramona to become a superhero, with him as her manager and publicist.
    • Ramona spent the next four years fighting crime as Dynamo Lass (named to appeal to the retro crowd), making public appearances, and building up a fanbase. At fourteen, she started attending Champion University, but after almost killing a man during a mission, she was heavily penalized. Ray withdrew her from the school, accusing them of neglect. Now, Dynamo Lass is looking for a new city to operate out of, and Easton City just might be it.

I was convinced to take it down because of unforeseen sociopolitical ramifications.
