A Game of Gods Season 3: Terminus

Go To

There is a legend spoken across a myriad of worlds, a tale of a tower between worlds. Called the Tower of War by some, the Devouring Tower by others and the Tower of Gods by most. The story goes that at a time of great conflict and crisis, a great Tower appeared. A construct of jet black metal, it stretched into the skies to a height where none could see the top. And at the base of the Tower, a black and gold gate unlocked.

Here, the stories diverge. Some tell of a band of heroes emerging, bringing an end to dictators and those who would let conflict rage. Others tell of demons and evil beings spilling out from the Tower and covering the world in an eternal darkness. And others say that those who dared to enter never returned.

But all tales agree on one point. After a period, sometimes days, sometimes years, the Tower vanished, leaving behind a world forever marked by its arrival and legends in its wake. And the fate of those whom the Tower had swallowed was left in the hands of the Gods.

Greetings traveller, and welcome to the Tower. You have been chosen to climb its steps of black stone and seek the top where the Ruler awaits. Me? I am but a blind locksmith, forever cursed to lead those who would climb the Tower and explain how to proceed. At the top of this Tower awaits your reward should you succeed. Riches beyond your imagination, knowledge that surpasses that of the greatest thinkers, weapons that would pluck the sun out of the sky and treasures of technology that would make anyone a king of their world. And, should you wish to, a way home, just how you left.

Oh, do I sense hostility? Rebellion? Righteous anger, directed towards the Ruler for taking you from your home? Oh yes, you would not be the first. Certainly, the one responsible for your being here also awaits at the top. Would you like to strike them down? Take revenge for your treatment? Or take on the mantle of Ruler of the Tower yourself?

Yes, yes! For such is the nature of the Tower! At the top, your heart’s greatest desires! But to win, you must play the games that the gods dictate!

Ah, now you are listening? You wish to know how to play? Very well. You will climb the Tower one floor at a time. Each floor have the stairs to the next floor, locked. But each floor also has a black and gold gate that leads to a different world, locations unimaginable or locales familiar. From that world, a world embroiled in chaos and strife, you must locate the key that will grant you passage to the next floor. Will it be the crown of a king? The last coin of a beggar? The song of an animal? I will be able to tell you what it is, but you must find it by yourselves. And then you return here, and you can progress to the next floor.

A simple idea, but a difficult task. Travel the myriad of worlds that this Tower connects to, recover the keys and climb! Ascend towards the heavens, towards the reward that awaits above!

Climb!

Rules

First of all, please respect the forum rules and the RP subsection rules.

One character per player, please. We’d also like to keep powerlevels at a reasonable standard, but anything can be nerfed. Even if you think your character is too powerful, send them our way and we’ll discuss it. Rule of thumb, though: if your character can cause or fix natural disasters single-handedly in a short length of time, expect some nerfs.

Please keep to general R Ping etiquette. No ghosting (simply ignoring any attacks sent your character’s way); no autohitting (whether your character’s attack lands is up to the other player, not you); no taking control of other people’s characters, etc. Of course, these being etiquette and not laws, you can make breaches if they’re discussed with the other player beforehand.

The only real rule is that GM rulings are final, and must be obeyed, though if you have objections these rulings can be politely discussed. The GMs for Season 3 are Meanken, Makaioh and Lemurian.

Shiroe looks good to go, there's just one thing. Mana Channelling is a bit problematic considering that it directly affects the other PCs mana stock, and I imagine it would be a hassle to demand that you got consent from all of the others everytime you used it. Would you mind reworking it? Alternatively so that he can just drain/donate mana from and to one person at a time?

Akatsuki and Nyanta are both great! I agree. Also I was worried about that when I read up on it (I had to refresh my memory a lot because it's been a little while) and I'd be absolutely happy to rework it! I can either do the rework you suggested or perhaps omit the ability?

@angeloffluffiness: Well, I see that you say that it's important to his Class, so you don't have to remove it if you don't want to. It just needs to be in a form that works in an RPG.

@Vox: Well, yes, your character is technically accepted, but I was waiting for you to add the distance limit on the astral projection to your SU. I'll add you to the list anyway.

A new challenger approaches!

  • Name: Kat
  • Age: Appears around her late teens.
  • Appearance: This fine girl here
  • Universe: Gravity Rush
  • Personality: Kat is a selfless, virtuous and bright girl whose always willing to help other people with their problems, almost to a fault. She generally stays upbeat, if not a bit snarky and showcases strong leadership skills and emotional support. Her values can push her to go against plans and authority, and she follows her own path. Despite being intelligent, she can also be a bit gullible.
  • Backstory: Waking up in the city of Heksville with no memories of her past, Kat struggles to find her way across the city. Alongside her, she finds a cat, whom she later befirends and name Dusty. Her time with the cat soon makes her discovers that she is a Shifter: a person capable of manipulating gravity. While she struggles to control her powers in the beginning, with the help of an old man named Gade, she develops her powers and helps out the city of Heksville form various threats, like the Nevi.
  • Powers/Abilities/Equipment: As a Shifter, she is able to manipulate the gravity surrounding her. This power can make her fly, walk on walls and side off of surfaces with relative ease. She also generate a Stasis Field that can make her carry objects and people in a zero-gravity field, and can launch objects out of the field. However there is a time limit to this power and she needs Dusty, her animal companion to be beside her for this power to work. If Dusty is ill or injured this limit is lessened more. She is also very durable, surviving falls from great heights with no damage.
  • Why have they been picked to climb the Tower?: Having a gravity manipulator would help the others in the team reach heights and places that would otherwise never be reached. Also, moral support.

The Sonic Screwdriver is mostly going to be used as an unlocking mechanism that can break padlocks and open most other doors and will be used for medical analysis but not healing and lastly as a diagnostic tool that can sense heat signatures and if familiar with the material it is scanning giving the Doctor a few readouts on the material or radiation.

As for the Doctor's companion

Name: Clara Oswald

Age: 26-27

Appearance: The Girl Who Lived

Universe: Doctor Who

Personality: Clara is almost the Doctor's stabilizing force as most of his companions are. As a result Clara is a very curious individual as well as observant helping the Doctor recapture the interest and love of the universe and travel that he had lost for a bit of time in one of his fits of depression. She's also beginning to become more reckless due to her consistent adventures with the Doctor, almost seeming to find herself invincible as a result. Another negative trait of Clara is that she can be exceptionally bossy with even a notoriously prone to control freaking Doctor labeling her a control freak. Her strongest trait is that she's one of the only people willing to confront the doctor and call him out on his BS and Clara sticks very dedicatedly to her own beliefs of right and wrong.

Backstory: Clara Oswald was a relatively normal human who had lost her mother back in 2005 but besides that was mostly living a normal life. One day she was caught up in one of the 15,000 alien plots seeming to affect Earth daily in Doctor Who lore and was uploaded into a "data cloud" of sorts. The Doctor however, (who she was contacting via telephone believing him to be a helpline) was able to rescue Clara. The Doctor had previously met two incarnations of Clara earlier in his own timeline and was attempting to solve that mystery Clara and these incarnations gave to him. After a few more adventures the answer became clear. In order to stop a foe of the Doctor known as the Great Intelligence from ruining the Doctor's life and time itself when the Great Intelligence split itself across the Doctor's timeline an infinite number of times, Clara followed seemingly sacrificing herself in the process with these two previous incarnations being the first two where she entered as a foreground player in the Doctor's adventures and not just stopping the Intelligence in the background. The Doctor later rescued Clara from his own timestream and returned her to England where she currently is a teacher at Coal Hill School hoping the Doctor finds Gallifrey.

Powers/Abilities/Equipment: Clara is mostly an average human with some basic tae kwon do training (extremely basic, she took it with some of her students) and a decent strategist who is good with kids. Clara's main ability is that as a result of her absorption into the data cloud and rescuing by the Doctor gave her phenomenal hacking abilities that while she mostly forgot still led her able to use a piece of 51st century tech held by UNIT without having ever seen it in action before.

Why have they been picked to climb the Tower?: As a balance to the Doctor and an individual who almost keeps him sane, the two are a nearly-unbreakable pair that gives the Doctor added motivation to climb the tower if he needed any.

#138: Jun 24th 2016 at 7:28:42 PM

Name: Sabrina

Age: 24

Appearance: "I know you will lose today. If you wish, I'll battle you anyway."

Universe: Pokemon... the Main Games, Not Team Rocket Elite Manga Sabrina or Crazy Psycho Anime Sabrina

Personality: Sabrina is enigmatic and cold, perhaps bordering on callous. However, she is not evil and unlike former Gym Leader Giovanni, treats her Pokemon with kindness and respect. In fact, she has closer of a connection to her Pokemon than other Gym Leaders because she can communicate with them telepathically.

Backstory: Sabrina is the Gym Leader of the Saffron Gym in Saffron City, handing out the Marsh Badge to Trainers who defeat her. Known as "The Mistress of Psychic-type Pokemon," she has had psychic powers ever since she was a child, when she accidentally bent a spoon. She apparently dislikes battling, but is hard to beat because she can communicate with her Pokemon telepathically. Her fame has grown so much that even Trainers living in the Sevii Islands have heard of her. Previously, there were two Gyms in Saffron City, a Fighting-type Gym, and a Psychic-type Gym. Sabrina used her advantage to defeat the rival Gym and strip them of their Gym status. note

Powers/Abilities/Equipment:

  • Psychic: Sabrina herself is telepathic and telekinetic. However, she can only move and stop things with telekinesis that a normal human could move and stop physically. With telepathy, she can communicate with others using only her mind, including her own Pokemon
  • Pokemon Team: Sabrina has six Pokemon which she can summon at any time. They are securely stored in "Pokeballs" on her belt, which are high-technology objects that can store Pokemon inside almost weightlessly and keeps them safely inside. The Pokeballs are about the size of a large marble, but can expand to be about the size of a baseball. Each one can open up to reveal the Pokemon who was stored inside. There is some cosmic force preventing her from having more than one Pokemon "active" (that is, fighting) at a time, with the exception of places like designated rest areas, tropical resorts, hospitals, and other places where they can roam free.
    • Alakazam: This Pokemon knows Psychic, which damages the opponent with a blast of Psychic energy; Reflect, which creates a psychic wall between the attacker and Alakazam; Recover, which is a move that heals Alakazam of some of the damage he receives; and Focus Blast, a energy ball move which is against type since it is a Fighting-type move.
    • Hypno: This Pokemon knows Dream Eater, which damages a sleeping opponent; Shadow Ball, an energy ball move which is against type since it is a Ghost-type move; Hypnosis, which causes the opponent to fall asleep, but can fail; and Calm Mind, which raises Hypno's Attack and Defense.
    • Espeon: This Pokemon knows Calm Mind, which raises Espeon's Attack and Defense; Psychic, which damages the opponent with a blast of Psychic energy; Shadow Ball, an energy ball move which is against type since it is a Ghost-type move; and Baton Pass, which allows Sabrina to switch to another Pokemon while keeping the beneficial and hazardous status effects that Espeon had.
    • Mr. Mime: This Pokemon knows Psychic, which damages the opponent with a blast of Psychic energy; Charge Beam, which is a beam of Electric energy; Mimic, which allows Mr. Mime to temporarily copy an opponent's move; and Reflect, which creates a psychic wall between the attacker and Mr. Mime
    • Jynx: This Pokemon knows Dream Eater, which damages a sleeping opponent; Frost Breath, an Ice-Type move which Jynx breathes out to damage opponent; Energy Ball, a Grass-type ball of energy; and Lovely Kiss; which causes an opponent to fall asleep if kissed.
    • Gallade: This Pokemon knows Stone Edge, a Rock-Type move which buries the target in rocks; Psychic Cut, which cuts an opponent with Psychic Energy; Night Slash, a Dark-Type move which cuts the opponent; and Close Combat, which hits an opponent and decreases Gallade's defenses.

Why have they been picked to climb the Tower?: Because her potential had been wasted in her prior multiversal adventure.

[up] Stasis Field affects anyone or anything that immediately surrounds her (maybe around 3 or so feet of her). She can carry max around 5 objects at once and it has no effect on her powers' time limit, which in-game last around 3 minutes (which I guess would be around 2-4 posts if I had her continuously flying).

  • Name: Sans and Papyrus
  • Age: Unknown, but Sans is older
  • Appearance: Sans, Papyrus
  • Universe: Undertale
  • Personality: Sans is pragmatic, down to earth and laid back to the point of lethargy. He loves to eat, though he doesn't need to. He tells jokes whenever the opportunity presents itself. This is partly because he just loves making people laugh and partly to distract himself and others from his overwhelming fear that nothing he does has consequence. He is highly protective of his little brother. sans always speaks in lower case. Papyrus is innocent and optimistic, believing even the worst person can become good if you give them the chance. He pretends to be arrogant, calling himself "The Great Papyrus", but really he wants to be admired and fears being lonely. He admires his big brother. PAPYRUS ALWAYS SPEAKS IN UPPER CASE.
  • Backstory: Nobody knows when these brothers showed up in the Underground. It seems one day they were just there, fully formed. The Underground is a nation that highly values its military, and so Papyrus set out to be the commander of the Royal Guard. He's in training, but he's not in the guard officially. Sans is a scientist, and because of this he was able to pick up on the multiple sudden creations and destructions of timelines in The Underground. Unfortunately, this lead him to despair, believing that if every action he takes will be erased without his control then he may as well do nothing.
  • Powers/Abilities/Equipment: Both of them have similar magic: They can cast magic that gradually paralyzes a person, create a moving maze of bones the length of a bus and the width of 1.5x an average person's shoulder to shoulder width that will hurt them if they touch the edges, and fire devastating lasers called "Gaster Blasters", which they need to charge up before use. Sans can psychically toss someone around when he's paralyzed them. Papyrus is moderately powerful. Sans is weaker, but he has a karma ability where an opponent's negative karma will determine the power of the attack when in affect. Sans can also intuit when time travel has altered something he's currently experiencing due to having studied such phenomenon. Papyrus can cook spaghetti.
  • Why have they been picked to climb the Tower?: Sans' calm pragmatism could help keep the team on track, his humor could lighten the mood and his karma power would ensure he his useful against the highest forms of evil. Papyrus' optimism can raise spirits, and this mission would give him the opportunity to use his combat training in ways he has never gotten to before.

  • Name: Zoe "Royale" Paine
  • Age: 20
  • Appearance: "Too fast to live, too young to die!"
  • Universe: SSX Tricky
  • Personality: Zoe doesn't particularly care what anyone else thinks of her. She's a rebel at heart, unbound by other people's notions of what's fashionable or what's possible. If she wants to accomplish something, she does it. Period. With that kind of attitude, she exudes confidence...that is, until she screws up, at which point she starts verbally beating herself down.
  • Backstory: Zoe was already an established risk-taker in the world of BMX biking when she came onto the snowboarding scene and participated in the first-ever Snowboard Supercross World Circuit in 2000. The experience was life-changing for her, putting her through some of the most challenging boardercross courses on the planet—and, subsequently, on the map as one of the top snowboarders in the world. Zoe returned the next year, and even though things were certainly tricky between all the new faces, new possibilities and new track layouts, Zoe was and is eager to prove to the world—and herself—that she is the best.
  • Powers/Abilities/Equipment:
    • Zoe brings with her a futuristic chrome snowboard called the Uberboard. The board is one of twelve, custom-designed for the SSX riders to use. Its technology breaks the barriers of what was considered possible for a snowboard, with a boost mechanism—charged by either doing tricks or just plain punching people out—and magnetic foot grips that enable the performance of death-defying Uber tricks, wherein the snowboarders unbind their feet from the board in midair and perform never-before-seen, physics-breaking stunts. Apart from all this, the Uberboard works as a mere improvised bludgeon as well.
    • Zoe, like her fellow SSX competitors, has been known to crash land after falling several hundred meters, get up, and keep on riding like nothing happened. She also sometimes wears midriff-baring ensembles during competition, only to suffer no effects of hypothermia, frostbite, or anything else that would normally expected to happen if a person dressed as Zoe does was to go outside during winter.
    • Zoe has read the SAS survival manual cover to cover several times, and therefore knows how to make it through situations where the only goal is to survive at all costs.
    • Zoe isn't a trained martial artist, but she has learned enough from mosh pits and bar brawls to hold her own in a fight.
  • Why have they been picked to climb the Tower?: Zoe possesses a keen desire to win, or at least see her losses through. She may be hard on herself, but losses motivate her to win more. If Zoe can't convince the rest of the group to do the same, then at the very least, there will be one person who refuses to stop climbing the Tower.

Because why not?

  • Name: Nitori Kawashiro
  • Age: Dunno. Probably came into being after the 1880s.
  • Appearance:Remember these hamster-cheeks?
  • Universe: Touhou Project
  • Personality: Friendly, if a bit shy. That is the first impression many have of this kappa. But, below the surface beats the heart of an unrepentant jerk. Also kinda racist, but we don't hold that against her. She'll warm to you if you treat her with the respect she deserves, she'll be quite accomadating if you're looking to buy from her. Otherwise, she can be rather haughty.
  • Backstory: This Nitori was part of the Sifuri taskforce in A Go G. Where she did surprisingly little, honestly. She shot some Cybermen and ran away from a Makuta and chatted with a ghost.
  • Powers/Abilities/Equipment:
    • Water: As a kappa, Nitori can manipulate water.
    • Backpack: Nitori's backpack is large and houses a variety of things. It houses rifles and pistols, missiles and bombs, as well as materials to make things. Also, extending mechanical arms, a racial trait.
    • Engineering: During the run of Sifuri, Nitori ended up with all the knowledge and skill of one Tony Stark. This technological know-how, plus kappa intuition, gives her a knack for quickly manufacturing a plethora of items.
    • Iron Man Suits: She has one in her backpack, and can make more. The suit has an arc reactor and is armed with hand lasers and extending arms with lasers.
    • Flight: Because Touhou.
    • Danmaku: Because Touhou. Capable of conjuring magical bullets if need be.
    • Illusions: If need be, Nitori can magically disguise herself and one other person.

Once again, thank you for your patience. Zoe "Royale" Paine and Nitori Kawashiro are Accepted. You will be added to the list of accepted characters and players shortly.

Next, I am unsure how to proceed with the reservations. There are still no plans of setting a hard limit to characters (yes, I know we're around the thirty-something mark), so reserving you a spot is at the time not necessary. But your reservations have been noted, in the case of a future but hitherto not planned limit is set into place.

@salithewitch: Hmmm...would you mind reworking the paralysis? The limit makes sense in-game because of the gameplay-screw, but in basically any other setting, restricting to only vertical jumping is much more severe. I'm totes okay with a paralysis-based power, though. Next, Sans' karma-based power levels. Is that a passive always-on deal, or an active ability that he can kinda switch on? It's just because since that's gonna fluctuate wildly, I'd rather it was something where it was easier to control. Next, Sans being sensitive to time-travel is okay, but the "being observed by outside forces" is a bit too vague. Would you mind reworking that? And finally, how large is the maze of bones they can create?
