Honestly I was really tempted to remove the fandom rivalry from the Tropes page for Captain Marvel because obviously, this isn't really a fan rivalry. Neither the fans of Captain Marvel, nor the fans of Alita truly care, the only people who do are a bunch of trolls which really want to create a controversy, but neither fandom really seems to bite.

I added just a sentences that most people are just happy to get as many female characters as possible because I didn't want to start some sort of editing battle, but technically, it is very misleading to claim that there is a rivalry.

I hope for Shazam that it does well...I'll most likely not get around to watch it, because there is a new Asterix movie I want to get around to see first, and after that there is naturally Endgame. But I have no ill will against the movie. Just against every reviewer which starts hiss review with "this is the good Captain Marvel".

irrc the people behind shazam actually spoke up to defend larson and the movie from the trolls. So it's a shitty attempt to try and pit the two fanbases against one another.

His first name sounds like an obvious clue, and I guess there'd be a point to be made about "white as default" regardless, but is Ido Asian in the manga? Some quick googling gives me this.

Second, i heard Zachary Levi personally went and defended Captain Marvel and Brie Larson from trolls, praising the movie for what it's worth. Even though you peasants should pray for the real star of the movie, Goose.

And third, the upcoming Death Battle between the Captain Marvels is going to attract so much negative attention considering the divisive nature of Carol's movie. That and she is going to suffer a horrible horrible death.

Yeah, this Death Battle was ill-conceived and also horribly timed; they announced Captain Marvel v. Captain Marvel at around the same day that Zachary Levi asked people not to pit him against Carol.

And the thing is,they knew full well what they were doing

All for views and clicks that delivor that sweet sugar known as monetization money

If they engage in a bizarre sexist "Revenge" (for what?) fantasy. They lose all my respect.

Do I even want to know what Death Battle is? Sounds like Celebrity Deathmatch with fictional characters from what this sounds like.

Usually less gore and insults to the characters tho. But yeah, is a show about seeing fictional characters from different franchise fighting.

No. Honestly, given how long they take to make episodes I'm 90% sure this is just an unlucky coincidence.

While I was happy that Zach Levi spoke up, I was also pretty disappointed in what he said, because he acted as if this is a DC vs Marvel thing when it is clearly not.

"Two superheroes from different comics publishers who have the same superhero name? We have got to do a Death Battle with them!"

That's what was probably going on in their heads at the time.

It's a tossup who would win, tbh. Carol Danvers in the comics has reached nearly cosmic levels of power, not even counting her time as Binary.

Billy Batson at his peak however is basically magic Superman, with all that entails.

It takes a few months. Did the Captain Marvel bashing get mainstream before the start of the year? Because that's the kind of timeline we would need. I don't see why pitting two rival-company superheroes who have the same name and movies premiering a few months apart should be automatically construed as an attack rather than an obvious choice for a VS. series. Especially since the battle isn't even out, so for all we know Carol is going to win.

I am not sure if it ever went mainstream. It's just the same 40.000 something people who keep screaming about it. That's hardly mainstream.

So there's no reason to assume that this has anything to do with the bashing. If it were Carol vs. Alita, who don't have a strong thematic connection like her and Billy then I might be able to see it.

But I more meant visible to the mainstream, not that the bashing itself is mainstream.

Oh, it has been visible for a few months. Pretty much since news regarding The Last Jedi dried out.

Anyway, I hope that they are aware enough that they didn't design the episode in a way that it will feed into the hatred.

So the recently-released Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has drawn a lot of attention for its unforgiving difficulty and lack of Anti-Frustration Features compared to even FromSoftware's notoriously difficult Dark Souls and Bloodborne. A few publications, like Forbes, have criticised the game for making itself inaccessible to disabled players, while others defended the difficulty as part of the creators' vision and overall experience. Noclip discusses the conflict between accessibility and creative intent, especially when the challenge is an essential part of the experience.

He notes that the creators themselves had acknowledged the need to make their games more accessible (though not addressing disabilities specifically), and how some of that effort is clearly visible in Sekiro. Obviously the disabled community isn't a monolith, and if you go on Youtube, you can easily find streams and LPs of the game by disabled players. As someone who's not medically disabled but experiences frequent cognitive and psychomotor hiccups from long-running mental disorders, I don't see myself playing it, but I've been watching my flatmate doing so and found the story and art pretty engaging.

It's a weird discussion re: difficulty level. Because it seems more like 7 different conversations at once, with multiple groups of people.

My takeaway is generally that Gatekeepers suck no matter the form of entertainment.

Isn't From Solfware's game use it difficult as a method of story telling. Like you not the chosen one here, you not someone importance, you just one of a long line of many poor souls who try to do this quest. It hard to get the feeling of crushing defeat and hopelessness if you can easily mow through the game.

The thing is, making a game accessible shouldn't necessarily mean making it easy? For example, Spider-Man (PS4) has the option to auto-complete quick-time events, auto-complete puzzles, and change buttons taps to button holds. Would this make the game too easy for a non-disabled player? Maybe, but they don't have to turn those options on. Would it make the game too easy for a disabled player? Probably not. All it does is make it so they can play the rest of the game without barriers that are outright stopping them.
