Just saw the film. Was a lot more comedy oriented than I was expecting, but I didn't really watch any promo material so that was probably my fault for thinking it wouldn't be!

Well yeah if you saw the trailers you would get the idea that "oh this is gonna be more meta and funnier". But that's Lord & Miller for you.

Do any of the streaming services have the "Caught in a Ham" Spider-Ham short, or is that Blu Ray only?

I just saw it for the first time finally, and I loved it!

It’s just purely, unashamedly, fun, and even manages to tell a pretty darned good story on top of that. The reduced frame rate, vintage comic book-y visuals, and use of 2D techniques in 3D animation make the look of the film completely unique, and takes full advantage of the the animated format. It gleefully borrows from everything from the early Lee/Ditko stories, to Spider-Gwen, but never takes itself overly seriously, and is a very welcome change of pace from most of the other recent comic book movies.

[up][up] I know iTunes does, if you get the version with the bonus features. It also has the Alternate Universe Mode.

A really good analysis of the unique visual style and way they used animation in the movie.

I think I am too late here, but I saw this movie recently online...

And... It's fantastic! I loved how awesome the animation looks!

Side note #1:Warning!  Well, have you seen the Clone High references? Or the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs ones? I had to pause for the visual ones... But I loved them anyway!

Side note #2: Man, I really wish to obtain the Blu-ray and DVD editions...

Just watched it again with my mom and her boyfriend. Yep, still fantastic. And yes, my mom loved it too. When they went to bed I stayed up and watched some featurettes. Really cool stuff.

It’s just based on a trailer from before the movie came out, but here’s another really good video looking at how the animation team used a traditional animation techniques such as key framing, squash and stretch, exaggeration, and animation smears, to help give the characters more personally and life, like a 2D animator would.

I finally got to go see it with my parents two weeks ago. Something that was kinda funny, is that I picked up on the lower than usual frame rate of the movie right in the first ten minutes of the movie, and found it to actually be a bit jarring at first. (I think it was mostly animated on twos (12 FPS), more like 2D television animation, but not exclusively.) The character animation felt a bit jerky and less fluid than I was used to for 3D animated features, and it took me a few minutes to really get into it.

After the movie, I asked my parents if they had noticed anything different or jarring in the way the characters moved, and they said they didn’t think so, and only noticed the more obvious unique visual design choices.

The funny thing? TV animation today uses mostly animation on 2's or more, and NO ONE complains about it!

[up]. Yeah, most modern television animation tends to be about 12-16 FPS, depending on the type of movement the animators want to convey, if I remember correctly, which this movie seemed to stick to for the most part.

Still, it’s a half to two thirds the rate of a traditionally animated feature film, and especially sticks out in CG.

I noticed that most of the trailer lines that weren't in the movie made it into the Alt Universe Mode version.

I’m not sure if it’s just me or not, but did anyone else notice that occasionally the frame rate almost didn’t seem high enough to keep up with the action in certain scenes?

I think the sequence where Miles and his family are running around his apartment from the beginning of the movie, is a good example. I think it was was animated on twos, which feels a bit akward and a little too choppy to me. I would have went with something closer to 16-20 FSP, just to smooth it out a bit, and make it feel more natural.

I get that’s a stylistic choice, and most of the time it worked, but I do think there is a few places where it didn’t quite work as well.

I think Stan was happy that he finally got to play JJ, who was meant as a caricature of how the boys in the bull pin saw him.

One thing that I kinda found funny in the commentary track, is that they almost overloaded their servers trying to animate the climatic portal scenes. The scenes were so visually dense and complex (I mean, I have never seen 3D animated Kirby Dots like that before), the computer was struggling to keep up, and caused horrendous lag.

Apparently, they even nearly managed to break the render engines that Imagewoks used to render out the film.

In terms of sequels, what other Spider-People do you guys want to see?

They teased Miguel O'Hara/Spiderman 2099 in The Stinger, but are there any others that would be fun?
