Agreed on the music department. The only song that could be considered equal to the original would be Circle of Life.
It's been 3000 years…The Lion King remake will indeed NOT be submitted for Best Animated Feature for Oscar 2019.
Perhaps for Disney to keep the illusion that it is live action or because they know either Toy Story 4 or Frozen II will win, who knows. Either way, I think it's a better it stays away from that category, as it would give a confusing perspective in the animation industry.
Brand. It's a perplexing thing.
From a PR perspective, it might be seen as a lose-lose situation. If they lose, they look dumb for trying to put a CGI film that desperately wants you to forget it's animated up for an animated award. If they WIN for the topic, near everyone is going to decry it as having not deserved the award over other films that embrace being an animated feature.
And if the above is the reasoning, I would suppose it points even more to the Oscar's being more pageantry than actually awarding skill or work.
Did the Lion King remake use any kind of motion capture? I think there was a rule some years back made that a film with too much mo-cap can't qualify for Best Animated Feature.
According to this, it did use some motion capture.
EDIT: Correction.

"Scooby Dooby Doo!"The live-action remake of Mulan will be going through some heavy reshoots.
Anyone think it might have to do with some certain things going on in China?
The bad guys now wear hard hats, are armed with umbrellas and speak Cantonese.
Anyone seen Maleficent 2: Maleficentier yet, btw?
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)I'll be seeing it with a friend next week.
I already read some spoilers from Jenny Nicholson's twitter about how hard it veers to "no homo" itself.

I've heard about it. Spoilers: It's very meh until the third act, where everyone's freaking dying, like it's suddenly the Red Wedding or the beginning of the third Pirates movie, but stretched out over a half hour.
It's been 3000 years…Got a death list?
The Protomen enhanced my life.Nobody important dies from what I've seen besides Merryweather, just a bunch of fairies and tree people. And the wedding goes on as planned after this madness.
It's been 3000 years…Oh, I thought you meant Mulan.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Robert Zemeckis is in talks to direct a live-action Pinocchio.
Well, it can’t be worse than the Benigni version.
> Benigni version
seen a clip of it on youtube,it's bad,it's really really "what the hell were you smoking?"
New theme music also a boxSo apparently, ABC is doing “The Little Mermaid: Live” in November, and check out the poster for it.

As someone in that Twitter thread already mentioned, that image of Flounder looks very stock.
That is so blatantly photo-shopped.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie.". It looks like a bootleg film cover or something.
Why is the chef front and center when he only shows up for a scene or two?
It's been 3000 years…Because he is the avatar of Hangry, which is the Mood of 2019.
Also, just saw Maleficent: Mistress of Evil - kinda okayish, 6.5/10 or so, could've been a great movie if they'd tweaked a few things here and there. Might write a longer post on it tomorrow.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)Also Whitewashing Auli’i Cravahlo skin color is not a great look.
I’m not sure if it’s just a crappy photoshop filter put over the whole thing or what, but it certainly does not come off great. (The Halloween store wig certainly doesn’t help either.)

Oh god. Those puns are amazing.
Unfortunately, my friend I sent it to had already seen it. The jokes were a bit decomposed for her.
