Here's my list of games that I can't get enough of on Switch.

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2
  • Stardew Valley
  • Death Road to Canada

Starlink: Battle for Atlas is also another option, provided you're willing to fork over additional money for the "toy" content packs. Give it a vanilla try first to see if you can get into it.

Starlink can also be purchased digitally with all the content on eshop.

The main draw of Starlink seems to be the Star Fox stuff, which I’m not really a fan of, so I will probably pass on it.

I’m gonna get Super Mario Odyssey for Christmas myself. Already own XBC 2 and BOTW (the former of which I finished not too long ago).

I’d love to get Hyrule Warriors for Switch eventually. I own the Wii U version but not the 3ds one. I might trade in my old version too.

I also want to get Tales of Vesperia for Switch when it comes out but that depends on my money.

The Star Fox stuff is just bonus Nintendo exclusive content (Starlink is on other consoles too) that's integrated into the main game. Star Fox fans will get a kick out of it, but its not necessary to like Star Fox to enjoy the game.

I just got Starlink today as GameStop has the Arwing pack for €25. It's pretty good so far, but could use gyro aim.

There are a few things about it that could be improved (scaling enemies to make it more difficult, for example), but it's definitely a solid game. Hope it gets a sequel.

[up][up][up]What's it like buying the physical game? I really don't want to mess around with the toys to life stuff, but having a big Arwing toy would actually be pretty cool.

I was thinking instead to get the Digital Deluxe version at a deep discount but if it's cheap now I'm thinking of biting.

Little Dragons Café is really good. It feels repetitive the first few in-game days, but after a hour it starts becoming the "fun" sort of repetitive. I'm only partway through the game right now but it's within my top 15 Switch games for sure.

[up][up]Wait, really? I tried it out at a friend's because he thought it'd be good. Honestly, we had more fun reading the dialogue with crazy voices and pretending that the sibling you don't pick is actually a figment of the MC's imagination because they never help with any of the chores. But yeah, it was seriously mediocre. And load times and loading screens were tedious.

Hey. So I'm debating between a couple games and I'm wondering if you guys can help me out:

  • Smash: On the one hand I don't have online so I have nobody to play with unless I play locally. On the other hand the same applies to Smash for 3DS wherein I did have access to online but mostly played against computers anyways.
  • Megaman/Mega Man 11: Outside of Legends 2, I've never played a game in the franchise.
  • Tropical Freeze: I have some experience with DK but not a lot. Not very good at platformers either.
  • Mario vs Rabbids: Heard good things but I'm not familiar with X-Com which I've heard it's similar to.
  • Star Allies: I like what little I've played of the franchise but I've heard mixed things about this particular game.
  • Valkyria Chronicles 4: Tried and enjoyed the demo. Not sure if I want to take the plunge though.

I'm also fine looking outside that list too, with the caveat that I prefer physical over digital whenever possible. For things I already own/have owned:

  • BOTW
  • Mario Odyssey
  • Atelier Lydie & Suelle
  • Disgaea 5 Complete
  • Xenoblade
  • Splatoon 2

I might have more but I left my Switch and my collection back in my college dorm while I'm on break so I can't check to be sure.

Smash has a very long campaign this time, so you won't run out of stuff to do very quickly even if you play solo.

MegaMan 11 is very brief, but also rather friendly to newcomers to the series. It has a demo, so just try that.

Valkyria Chronicles is a very unusual series. The tutorial has told you more than anything else could, honestly. I like it, personally.

Star Allies is a very uninteresting entry in the series, with the array of partner characters being the only thing that kept me interested. It's alright, but I preferred the 3DS entries.

I recommend watching gameplay videos for Mario & Rabbids.

Raining Metal: Wasn't the problem with Zero the use of two screens?

Rodimus Minor: It's a gimmick, but I freaking love gimmicks like this.

OK, more objectively, the physical game comes with a mount to use the toys. This only works with Joy-Cons, so if you want to use a Pro Controller, there's no advantage beyond the standard differences between physical and digital games.

The Arwing's wing engines can fold up and expand like in the games, but when expanded they get in the way of my thumbs.

The ships a little flimsy and plasticky, but the pilot figurines are of good quality. Still, it is pretty cool to have your actual ship in your hands, and hot-swapping equipment is rather novel. If you just want them as toys, you can swap out the wings for different fighters, sort of like Marvel's Hero Mashup figures.

@Chariot

If you have a PC, try downloading the demo for X Com Enemy Unknown. That'll give you an idea of what Mario+Rabbids is like.

Health sure is versatile. It's possible to be both light-headed and dim-witted. At the same time, no less.

Two of the big differences between X-Com and Mario + Rabbids are movility and the way chances of an attack hitting work.

For the first one, Mario + Rabbids has a bunch of movility options. You can go and slide kick an enemy while moving, you can take pipes sprinkled around the battlefield, and you can use your teammates as a jump boost, letting you cover a lot of ground very quickly.

As for the second, while X-Com has multiple possible percentage chances to strike an enemy (that can lead to situations like missing a point blank shotgun blast to the face because you have a 95% chance to strike), Mario + Rabbits's chances to strike are only 1 of 3 options: Guaranteed hit, 50-50 chance, or guaranteed miss, depending on your line of sight to the enemy.

That too, but gyro controls certainly didn't help matters. It's one reason why the Arwing Walker should have been left in Star Fox 2.

Star Allies is pretty great actually, now that it's finished with all the free DLC updates (though I liked it well enough before all that). All the extra content provides enough replay value that I still go back to it as much as I have with any other Kirby game (and so far it's the only other Switch game aside from Warriors and Smash to get that out of me).

Story Mode is still rather easy (even by Kirby standards) but Guest Star (a shorter version of the Story Mode where you play as one of Kirby's friends; the more established characters like Susie, Marx, and Adeline even get unique variations of the stages that call back their debut games), Ultimate Choice (the Arena mode), and Heroes in Another Dimension (challenge mode basically designed to address all the It's Easy, So It Sucks! complaints the vanilla game got) all make up for that in my opinion.

That said, I don't think it's as good as the last couple of games, and all the content updates seemed to specifically cater to longtime fans more than general players, but it's still a solid game that's worth the price.

About Little Dragons Cafe, I haven't had any issues with the sibling doing chores. The cafe workers usually work just fine.

Yeah, I know, it's more of a general make fun of the Gameplay and Story Segregation thing. The sibling will say something like "Hey, let's go do this thing for Mom!" and proceeds to just stand there and not even leave the house. Then when I come back, having done the thing, they'll proceed to claim credit like they were there and helping.

Nintendo has filed for trademarks for both "Advance Wars and Style Savvy".

This is most likely for the sake of trademark protection, but I wanted to bring it up here because I think that both Nintendo Wars and Style Savvy could use installments on the Switch.

The storm has now resided, the wolf now rests.

Not sure about Wars, but I think Style Savvy will make the Switch soon, especially with Animal Crossing coming out to build the audience.

Style Savvy might be a new game in the series considering there were games on the 3DS.

Advanced Wars might be just a standard trademark renewal, since the last game, Days of Ruin came out at the beginning of 2008.

We'll just have to wait and see.
