Godzilla (2014) was pretty good and Kong: Skull Island kicked ass, so I'm expecting something pretty great. Can't wait to see Mothra and Rodan.
I liked Uprising, though.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Y'know, it's funny that Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island follow one another, because they take diametrically opposed approaches to how they depict their monsters.
Godzilla is all about the slow-burn, the build up and anticipation. The kaiju are never seen clearly for most of the film, and the monster action is very methodical. The entire film is building towards the climax where these monsters let loose, which is practically cathartic after how much the audience has to wait until that point.
Skull Island fully embraces its B-movie status and just goes all in on the monster action. The set pieces are not only more frequent, they're more over-the-top and varied. Skull Island does not care for subtlety, and it more than delivers its giant monkey fight scenes.
So, I wonder how King of the Monsters is going to approach this. Obviously, it's not going the route of the first movie by holding back. Not only was one of the biggest criticisms of the first film was just how little Godzilla appeared in his own movie, there's also far more kaiju this time around requiring their own set-pieces. Also the director is Michael Dougherty and while I've only seen Trick 'r Treat from him, he strikes me as someone who's going to fully embrace the opportunity to have monsters fighting each other going by his work.
Yeah, I really hope it's closer to Skull Island than Godzilla.
Skull Island is so good, it made me appreciate Godzilla even more in retrospect. I'm really into this MonsterVerse shindig. It isn't getting enough attention.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?So they showed some of the monster designs right? I'm not feeling Mothra's look. She looks less... motherly.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.I'm just happy Mothra is getting any love at all. It's my favorite kaiju.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireI really like the Cosmic Horror vibe they're giving to Ghidorah, I hope they imply that he's actually and alien of some kind.
Anyone else got the chills when the monsters started showing?
So is Vera Farmiga's character some kind of monster conspirator? Were they implying she was releasing the other monsters against Ghidorah?
I know they wouldn't fully show the new monsters but i'm surprised just how much we saw in this first trailer.
I wonder if it had to do with the complaints that we didn't see enough of Godzilla in the first Legendary movie...
We still didn’t see all that much. Nearly every kaiju besides Godzilla had its appearance obscured.
Dat Claire de Lune remix, though...
Watch SymphogearWB needs to calm down with releasing all these trailers. Titans, Young Justice, Shazam, Aquaman, and this in the span of three days.
Someone posted a bunch of seeming leaks on 4chan about the plot of this movie. A lot of it actually matches up with what we see in the trailer, so I guess it's pretty credible.
This was definitely DC's best movie trailer, imo.
Watch SymphogearI really hope there's no movie that will compete with this. I want this to succeed so badly. I need Kaijus in my life, and this trailer really delivered the hype.
I'm curious how they plan on bringing these monsters together in a satisfying way. A 3v1 brawl pitting Godzilla, Mothra and Rodan against Ghidorah would be the traditional set-up. However, they may have a hard time selling Rodan as one of the "good" monsters if he's causing any of that mayhem we see in his wake.
I have high hopes. I love these monsters to death and I hope this movie can do them justice.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaire
WB, not DC.
x3 - Legendary’s monster films seems to be the only shared universe besides the MCU that’s a consistent box office success. I’m hoping that continues because hey, giant monsters are cool, and there’s something to build off of. They at least get why people care about these movies, which is a good sign. I’m going to be optimistic because that trailer was great.

Right. I've been so used to DC being shit movie wise that I instinctively typed it in.
Watch SymphogearThen again the Monsterverse only has had two movies so far.
Still a feat considering DC's been having to pull damage control ever since its first two movies, and the poor little Dark Universe couldn't even manage one.
Please don't let this be like Pacific Rim: Uprising. I need a Kaiju franchise and Cloverfield doesn't cut it.
