i recommend starting with replying to comments, that way you'll sneak in without anyone noticing you and have the chance of building a good reputation before you make your post

E.T technically is a Isekai movieI am... not having the best time with r/thewalkingdead.
To cut a long story short: there's a lot of disparaging memes floating around on that sub and The Walking Dead, being a heavily-criticized program, invites a lot of toxicity and low-effort posting. I've seen subs like Fear the Walking Dead and Arrow down in these posts.
Arrow became a Daredevil sub for awhile because the fans weren't happy with the show.
Fear the Walking Dead and Walking Dead have people posting "you know what it is" ad nauseam. To an extent I find distasteful even accepting how flawed the show is.
So I go the extra mile to report some of the people spewing this vitrol. No engagement, just report, block, move on. My posting gets blocked. No message, no warning.
Now I've complained about the toxicity before. To me this feels like a "we know about the toxicity but we like it, so we're silencing you" situation. "Don't complain about the complaining."
So I scramble through reddit looking for r/banned and r/thef-ckdidIjustgetbannedfor, and I find they have a form for calling out moderation teams. There are threads about unjustified bans and the general consensus seems to be "if you get banned unfairly tough nuts, make a new sub and move on."
I shouldn't be surprised on a site that deems itself "the front page of the internet" but finding out just how much power mods have, that they can do whatever they want in most cases as defined by reddit rules, and that the community accepts it - that's always alarming.
I think it might be for the best. I liked posting there and it hurts me to not be able to anymore, but at the same time experiencing what the mods are like makes me feel like it wasn't the place to talk about something I cared about in the first place.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Oh yeah, subreddits live and die by their mods of very varying quality. There are subs that will ban you if you ever post once on a different sub, even if it's arguing against them. There are subs that are in bed with the creators of whatever the sub is for who will ban even the slightest criticism. There's even the infamous "power mods" who become mods of tons of different subreddits just for the influence and never seem to understand or care about the different communities. And there's always the risk of mods powertripping and banning people for stupid reasons (you have a RWBY avatar, so I assume you'll understand when I tell you that people have been modded for saying they don't like Bumblebee).
All in all, I'd recommend only visiting subreddits with a culture you like and avoiding those you don't.
I like reddit but as a forum its not very good
You're going to pay a price for every bloody thing you do and everything you don't do. You don't get to choose to not pay a price.o_o
I only go to the RWBY sub for fanart. Never really posted/interacted there.
Now I know better. (Well coincidentally that is my favorite ship, but still, banning someone over ship preference is disgusting)
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!The only subreddit I really participate in is the Yo-Kai Watch subreddit. So far, I haven't run into toxicity there, but I don't think I'm willing to poke around any other subreddits, considering how bad fandoms can be in general.
I hang out on Reddit mostly for the meme. r/prequelmeme and r/grimdank quite good.
E.T technically is a Isekai movieI only frequent the r/Boxing to keep up with the news on the sport.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."@Talis, that's quite weird, because i find the r/RWBY mods to be some of the more reasonable mods on reddit. they have done a good job keeping T_D from spreading it's influence on the sub
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistYep. I will clarify that it tends to happen most in Episode threads, where they're way stricter than in Fanart threads and such. At the most volatile time, "EEEE BUMBLEBEE IS SO CANON SUCK IT HATERS!!!!" was fine but "Cute moment, but I still think that Black Sun makes more sense" wasn't.
I read r/rpghorrorstories because for some reason, I like reading stories of terrible D&D players.
so reddit has just banned r/Watch People Die in the wake of the New Zealand terrorist attack
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistNot surprised.
Now only if they would ban the hate subs that would be real nice.
i have actually been to that sub occasionally, when i was morbidly curious, the community there was actually pretty good. they never brigaded other subs, were emphatic towards the people in the videos and downvoted edgy fuccbois when they appeared on the sub. of course, dark comedy would also pop up there, sometimes as a way of coping
now, if only reddit would ban T_D, it's pretty much cancer for reddit
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistI have heard good things about that subreddit community as well but I never went on it due to the subject nature. I have no fascination with watching people die.
Even then I have seen some edgy assholes claiming to be from that subreddit, saying that their free speech was infringed upon, and then deliberately sharing the New Zealand terrorist attack live stream.
I would definetely ban The-Donald and anything attached to it by far. Braincels, conspiracy, conservative, Debatealtright, unpopular opinion....
So many hate subs or subs that have been hijacked by hate subs need to be purged completely especially now that those subs have a lot of blood on their hands.
In that case, ban liberal subreddits as well. They also have blood on their hands, albeit not as much.
It's been 3000 years…That's a ridiculous statement.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Yeah, it's not even close. t_d has done incredible amounts of damage, spreading disinformation, and insulating itself from actual truths while chanting dumbass things like "lock her up." They refuse to even acknowledge reality. Same goes for r/conservative.
I can hardly think of a problem like this even on a left-leaning sub. It's one thing to disagree with someone's politics, but the alt-right subs actively promote anti-intellectualism, hatred, and propaganda.

I'm totally new to Reddit (made an account last October but have yet to use it), and I'm stumped as to what my first post should be. You only get to make a first impression once, and I don't want to come across as clueless, or a shameless self-promoter, or anything like that. Any advice? Or am I severely overthinking it?
