Nah, I don't think they'll do Elsweyr just yet. We don't even knoweyr this one is. It might be Anyweyr. It's certainly Somweyr.

Well, if we assume the area represented in the teaser is where we are going... we've got a rocky area with some temperate forestation and mountains further in the distance, along a coast. The only region of Tamriel itself that comes anywhere close to matching that is indeed High Rock. So either after three games we're returning to the Iliac Bay region that was Daggerfall, or we're on a different continent.

I could go for that. I've been hoping for Hammerfell for a while, but exploring a new continent could be an interesting change.

It could also be that whatever the story is about, it has for some reason changed the landscape of the region we're in. I don't think it's a credible assumption, but since it's jsut a quick teaser, they could be throwing some misleading imagery there.

Hammerfell also has a temperate zone and plenty of sea-side living so that's a possibility.

One question.

Where are the Skyrim followers mods already, the Game of Thrones total conversion, the Dragon Age add ons and Thomas and Macho dragons? If the previous game is still legendary today this...I'd buy an XBOX 2 or quad 16 gig PC for this.

Presumably hanging out with the guys who were converting Fallout 4 into 3 and New Vegas and the guys who were converting Skyrim into Oblivion.

I was hoping for elyswhere. Bit maybencat men and an Arabian setting are hard sells? Even withi inego Montoya accents?

Hammerfekl would be good though. More orc and redguard culture.

I can just imagine the guard banter.

I hope it's not High Rock. That's like the least interesting and exotic location out of all the provinces.

Feeling is that ES VI will be "next generation" - so does that mean the next gen of consoles, or just a turn of phrase in terms of the type of gameplay we can expect?

Either way, it's exciting but I was hoping for an F4 style fakeout of "It's out in 2 weeks."

Probably a vain hope, but hoping we're moving off Gamebryo.

[up][up][up] If the lore is any indication, though, there'll be political intrigue in spades.

Indeed, there's got to be some kind of continuation of the goings-on with the Thalmor. If that's the case, I imagine the Summerset Isles will be the game's setting.

I hope not. We already have the MMO taking place in Summerset, we shouldn't go there again anytime soon.

They do have a habit of jumping around with the plot, the next game probably won't even feature the Thalmor or anything related to Skyrim, they'll mention the Empire a lot though

Or they'll end up setting the game before the empire was united, having the player character helpi Tiber Septim found the empire

Outside of the MMO they've never gone the prequel route. They might have had a cool game going if they'd done one about all the intriguing and in-fighting in the Empire post-Oblivion, but that would have been a second Cyrodil game with the tech they were using. Or else a massive game spanning the entire continent like Arena. Which could have been cool too. So they fast forwarded 200 years to the return of Alduin. There's no reason to automatically assume they're going to do a prequel or completely skip fighting the Thalmor.

If the Thalmor are involved, I'm hoping they're either already defeated/knocked down a peg by a reunited empire, or we get to take them down from the inside.

I missed the part where that's my problem.

The Elder Scrolls games have, for the most part, been fairly standalone. I don't know if that'll change in the wake of Skyrim, but it wouldn't surprise me too much if the game dropped elements or reworked them to suit whatever they want now.

E.g. Morrowind warned that the Emperor's health was declining, that there could be some sort of succession crisis between his heirs, and that after that the Empire was kinda screwed — this is true in very broad strokes, but only if you accept 'assassins gut him in front of you' as a decline in his health. The succession crisis stuff is mostly dropped, though is picked up in Skyrim's backstory; Martin is unquestionably the last heir, as everyone else was assassinated.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Thalmor turned up, but if Beth's vision for the game/series has changed, or if they want to move into different areas, it wouldn't be unheard of for them to let old plot hooks hang in favour of their current aims.

Since Hammerfell was one of the few areas to actually RESIST the Thalmor, that could be the focus.... plus as Hammerfell is NORTH of Summerset it could be we visit it (in DLC, or as a bonus side quest?)

They jumped from Oblivion to Skyrim without touching the events of the war, and without alluding to the potential of it, but with the amount they built up the Thalmor, i'd be surprised if it wasn't touched on.

As for intruige - Bethesda may not carry that into gameplay. I'd hope they did (They showed they can do factions with Fallout 4) so who knows!

If it's there, I do hope the intrigue is actually important, and not an afterthought like the civil war was in Skyrim.

Ugh, not humans for the third time in a row, that is my only disappointment if High Rock does end up being the setting. I find fantastical creatures to be much more fascinating and actually relatable. Apart from that, gimme some political intrigue and I'll be fully satisfied.

Life is unfair...
