Suggestion: Serial Killer Killer

I found this image of Patrick Bateman (the serial killer) and Dexter Morgan (the serial killer-killer) that I think illustrates the trope pretty well. Most other images (such as this one) end up looking more like a Villain Team-Up than one hunting the other. It's not dependent on context of either work either—note the butcher's knife tucked away in Bateman's vest and Dexter obviously hiding the syringe from Bateman with ulterior purposes.

That knife is really hard to see. Will need a caption to work. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, mind you.

I kind of like 1.1 there. It at least hits enough points to be relatively illustrating even without a caption. The knife being hard to catch is the main flaw, really.

It's not a knife, but an injection with sedative which is Dexter's frequent MO. I think the OP could work but a good caption is necessary.

Dexter has a syringe, yes, but the other guy has a knife tucked in next to his tie.

Oh, I just saw the knife. That creates as problem. Wiki size is just going to make it worse.

^^^^ The other guy has a knife — tucked into his suit jacket. You can only see the end of the handle if you look for it.

That's the only thing that bugs me about it.

If the knife is hard to see, I'll note that the added Black Gloves of Death™ also help the visual. Easier to notice, and they already suggest that Bateman is about to kill someone before you'll spot the knife, not so much that his hands are cold or that he wants to look snappy, since he's not wearing his overcoat. Whether that's enough by itself I don't know.

Ah, ok, I didn't read the whole op.

I have reservations about the suggestion...it depends on knowing about both Dexter and American Psycho to get who the guys are, and at wiki size I think the syringe will be hard to see.

I don't think it depends on knowing them. I didn't recognise the characters the first time I looked at it, and I only recognise Dexter if I really try to. The other guy I still don't have a clue who he is. What it would look like at wiki-size is a fair concern, though.

I'm a bit weak on it, since Bateman doesn't really scream "serial killer" unless you're familiar with the work (and I'm not sure if that's more JAFAAC or Fan Myopia), but I'll play along. Cropped off all the dead space to the sides, moved Dexter closer to Bateman (surprisingly convincingly), shrank to 350px, then ran "Sharpen" once (I'm loath to use that filter, but it really does make the syringe stand out better). This is what I got; judge for yourself whether or not it works:

EDIT: I used "loathe" where I should've used "loath" ._.

I think it works. Better than I thought at that size, actually. It's not great, but it illustrates. As I've said, I don't know who Bateman is, but his expression tells me that while it's not clear he's a serial killer, he's certainly up to no good. And I associate the gloves with trying to get away with murder, but it might just be me.

I don't know who the guy on the left is, but he looks killer-y enough for me. But, again, this would need a good caption alongside to work well.

No it's not just you, Black Rubber Gloves Of Death is kind of a trope. The closest thing we have an article about is Conspicuous Gloves, but that's a lot different, I think.

12 looks better. Will still need a caption in my mind though.

Seems like there is some support for 12, so it's up and tagged. Dunno what to pothole it for, though.

Anyhow, caption thoughts?

I want to say something like, "Two murderers. The first kills innocents. The second kills people like the first," but it feels a little flat. And a little too explanatory.

Been three days without caption support and upon reconsideration the image is not as caption-dependent, so I think we can move on. Requesting closure.
