Hey, uh, remember when I said I wanted to make a fan roster for Hyrule Warriors II? Well, I finally up and made it.

Submitted for your approval: eleven new characters, their weapons, and new weapons for five of the old characters. I have ideas for new maps, story elements, items, bosses, enemies, and so on, but I've been at this for hours already, so this is all you get for now.

Note: All the characters from the original Hyrule Warriors and Legends are (hypothetically) back except Cia, Volga, and Wizzro. Partly because their story is over, but mostly because I don't like them all that much. I gave similar weapons to Link, Mipha, and Skull Kid, respectively, so as not to waste a move set.

    New Characters
  • Saria Weapons
  • Nabooru Weapons
  • Vaati Weapons
  • Beedle Weapons
  • Makar Weapons
  • Hero's Spirit Weapons
  • Yeto Weapons
  • Groose Weapons
  • Batreaux Weapons
  • Daruk Weapons
  • Mipha Weapons

    New Weapons for Old Characters

Bonus: I'd change the typing of Impa's weapons, too. The Giant Blade should be Fire-type (because Gorons made it), and the Naginata should be Darkness-type (because Sheikah).

So, any thoughts? grin

In no particular order...

  • Revali and Urbosa seem more likely then Mipha and Daruk (But all four actually seem pretty reasonable all thing considered)
  • Beedle feels like he should be the background element of the Shop Screen more then a playable character.
  • Deku Princess feels like an odd choice. Deku Link seems more likely (Since he's an actual player character and all) but I feel like you just want to avoid another Link.
  • ...Which is odd since you want to throw in the the Hero's Shade. Personally I don't see adding too much new then that the Link's we do have. I think he'd make a really cool costume for Link though
  • Also I can't help but feel Vaati's weapon should be a hat since the Wishing Cap was the MacGuffin from which he first got his powers. The Picori Blade > Four Sword line of weapons should really be a Toon Link weapon.
  • Swords don't seem to be a very Saria thing to me, something like the Slingshot (Plus Ocarina magic) or something seems more Kokiri-ish.
  • While Nabooru would be fun I would rather have her get the Iron Knuckle axe if only because Urbosa has a better claim to Scimitar-ing.
  • Groose I feel should have an item that actually features in Skyward Sword for a weapon like the Beetle or Bombs or even Loftwing (In the same vein Midna uses wolves)
  • Makar would be nice symmetry to round out the Wind Waker's cast since he is the only main character not in yet.
  • The Happy Mask Salesman, Yeto and Batreaux aren't people I'm exactly clamoring for various reasons.
  • No Oracles?

I want to see a breakable weapon set for Link, after each charge attack you will break the weapon you are using then switch.

Like the Strike Gundam in Dynasty Warriors Gundam which charge attack you use will determine which weapon you switch to. So a C2 gives a bow, C3 a spear and yada. You will not break the weapon till you use a charge attack.

His running attack has to be shield surfing ala Sima Zhao in DW 7/8.

I'd vote for Nabooru packing two swords and her Iron Knuckle axes, myself. Maybe add the Iron Knuckle gauntlets to her design, too.

I vote for Lana getting a "Frost Rod" or similar to use a slightly reflavored version of her overall Spear moveset with Saria getting the Spears and a new moveset to go with 'em.

I'd really like to see Impa get something like a Fuuma Shuriken- I'm all for her getting a Dark weapon.

I sure said that!

Giving her one of the Yiga Clan's sickles would be cool too. She really should have a Darkness Element weapon though. Sage of Shadows leader of the Shadow Folk and all that.

Skull Kid's weapon switching to his Flute while Saria gets the Ocarina could also work.

I would actually like Agahnim to get in as Ganondorf's answer to Sheik

As far as sneaking in weird minor characters, I'd really like to see Ashei.

... I still really wish they modified the Toon cast to look less bizarre next to everyone else.

Yeah Saria should get her ocarina, there are already plenty of templates for it in DW games.

To address some of y'all's concerns:

I decided to cut three of the characters (Happy Mask Salesman, Deku Princess, and Demise) because I realized I don't actually need them to do the "arcs" I have in mind. Young Link, Skull Kid, and Tingle are all that's really needed for my Majora's Mask arc. Not that this isn't all make-believe anyway.

And yeah, I thought it'd be weird if Deku Link and Young Link interacted. Plus, if you put in Deku Link you're kind of obliged to put in Goron and Zora Link, too.

Re: the Hero's Spirit/Shade and Yeto, I kinda felt like Agitha was a waste of a Twilight Princess character, so I added a much more memorable pair (in my opinion) to make up for it. I actually think Yeto has a lot of potential; besides his fish, he can throw huge pots of pumpkin soup and pull sick snowboarding moves.

Ashei is good, but she's part of a group that's seldom seen apart. It feels weird to split 'em. And if I had to pick one member of the Resistance, it'd probably be Rusl because he's (marginally) more important to the story.

And yeah, the Hero's Spirit is OoT/MM!Link, but from a radically different point in time. Lana's portals can make that meeting happen. Besides, he can turn into a wolf. Turning into a wolf is cool.

I didn't put in Revali because his main weapon is the bow, which all characters can already use anyway. Seemed redundant. And Urbosa is probably going to be super popular for a while, but Nabooru has seniority on her side, and her absence in the original game is conspicuous.

Speaking of Nabooru, I wanted to give her the Iron Knuckle axe, but I really would rather give the axe to Groose. None of the "remaining" Skyward Sword items—Beetle, Whip, and Gust Bellows—seemed like a good fit for him. Besides, he probably used something like an axe to build the Groosenator (and would look badass swinging one around).

The slingshot seemed like a pretty lame weapon even for Saria. Plus, she'd look silly tugging on that string all the time. We know the Kokiri use swords (it is called the Kokiri Sword, after all), and if she's ever going to wield one, a Hyrule Warriors sequel is as good a place as any.

I also stand by my decision to include Beedle. He's become a cross-timeline series regular like Impa and Tingle. In my idea, Gondo and Scrapper are in the background of the shop screen (them or the blacksmiths from Majora's Mask).

I've actually never finished Minish Cap, but the Wishing Cap sounds like a better choice than the Picori Blade, I admit. That being said, I don't think Toon Link should get it because he already has a sword.

As for Batreaux, I added him mainly because of his personality. Imagine tearing down hundreds of Bokoblins, going "So sorry! So sorry!" and "I hope that didn't hurt too much, Mr. Monster!"

(Besides, if the likes of Tingle and Agitha are good enough for this "series," then fuck it, so is Batreaux.)

Oh, and I wanted to put in Onox and Veran, but I could not for the life of me think of a good weapon for Veran. I think we discussed one a while ago, but I don't remember what it was.

Honestly, it's a decent list, but not the choices I'd make.

In terms of characters:

Groose (Cannon, Fire elemental)
Urbosa (Scimitar & Shield, Lightning elemental)
Mipha (Zora Spear, Water elemental)
Daruk (Club, Fire elemental)
Revali (Rito Bow, Light elemental)
DLC: Hestu (Maracas, Light elemental)
DLC: Kohga (Yiga Sickle, Dark elemental)
DLC: Beedle (unsure about this guy, so I'll just take your weapon idea for him and call it a day)
DLC: Vaati (Hat, Lightning elemental)

In terms of weapons:

Impa (Guardian Axe, Light elemental)
Ganondorf (Gauntlets, Dark elemental)
DLC: Ganondorf (Giant Horse, Lightning elemental)
DLC: Ravio (Tornado Rod, Lightning elemental)

Ooh, a cannon sounds like a nice fit for Groose! Consider it (hypothetically) added. On the other hand, I can't think of a good third-tier sickle for Batreaux. Any suggestions?

I'll share my ideas for maps, items, enemies, etc. sometime later, by the by.

I mean there is a Hammer Sub Weapon with two hammer users, a bow and we have a crossbow user as well as Zelda who uses a bow for half her attacks,

In terms of characters I'd say the 3D Games should round out their casts to have at least four characters each and 2D should get some iconic characters to round out the cast. Then gaps in the cast and other popular characters could probably be filled out with DLC.

  • Groose (Loftwing)
  • Demise (Demon King Sword)
  • Saria (Ocarina)
  • Nabooru (Axe)
  • Deku Link (Pipes)
  • Revali (Rito Bow)
  • Urbosa (Gerudo Scimitar)
  • Mipha (Zora Spear)
  • Daruk (Goron Sword)
  • Din (Rod of Seasons)
  • Nayru (Harp of Ages)
  • Linebeck (Canon)
  • Vaati (Hat)
  • Aganhim (Medallion)
  • Hilda (Wand)
  • Styla (Outfit)

Ah, I'd also vote for a core-setting incarnation of Malon who hybridizes herself with Romani and fights with bows- Call 'em Longbows to separate them from the subweapon. Her best weapon would need to be a bow made from cow horns.

I sure said that!

Just a few characters that aren't usually mentioned.

  • Onox - Ball and Chain
  • Veran - Some kind of dark magic artifact that lets her shapeshift?
  • Groose - Groosenator Mk. II
  • Master Kohga - Sickle
  • Scervo - Lightning Sword

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!

I'd prefer Malon to use a pitchfork, yeah.

Also, I added the cannon to Groose in my "main" post. In the absence of a canonical cannon (there I go again), I made up some fun names for the three different tiers.

You say that like one of the playable characters isn't a boat or another one isn't a supremely minor sidequest character who just has Stand powers now.

All I'm sayin' is, it'd be better if Groose had a hand cannon to carry around. Like, maybe a nice beefy shoulder-mounted one, like a Zelda-fied rocket launcher. He could summon a boat—other characters summon all sorts of things—but that makes no sense for him (and wouldn't be as cool).

Maybe for Linebeck, hypothetically.

Groose just needs his Loftwing to airdrop his Groosenator for him for his Focus Spirit attack.

Unless we get to see Groose getting called out for his reckless actions putting Zelda's forces in danger, or Ghirahim roundhousing him into a wall again, I could quite happily go without Groose in a hypothetical sequel. That's how much hate the Hype Backlash has generated for me.
