General Kingdom Hearts Fanfiction Thread

I've been mulling a few ideas for some fanfics in my head for a long time, so I figured I'd post a few of my ideas here to see what people think.

Now, I have a tendency to not finish what I start, so don't nessesarily expect anything to come from this, but I would really appreciate it if you guys would read the whole thing and give me feedback.

My first idea, would be a sort of Fix Fic Novelization of the games. (Probably starting with KHI.)

I would not make too many changes to the overall plot. It'll go the same places it goes in the games, but I would try to better implement the Disney and Final Fantasy characters and worlds.

A few notable changes however:

First of all, Sora's characterization would be slightly different. Rather than a Messianic Archetype Canon Sue, he'll be more of The Everyman and an All-Loving Hero. He won't be quite as... I don't want to say childish, because that would imply that I'm trying for a Darker and Edgier thing, which isn't what I'm going for. No, he'll simply act like he does, except he'll act like he's 14 (as he is) rather than he's 10. I might also try to make his Invisible Parents not invisble. (I think I might try to ask for someone else's OCs for his parents rather than make up my own.)

Next, I'll add a few more Disney and FF characters here and there. For example, I was think Sora might spend 4ish days on Traverse Town (though I won't actually write all of it, per say.) and he'll be sort of taken in by Cid, while taking jobs killing heartless. Also being housed by Cid would be one or two of the Recess gang.

I might also add a few more villians to Maleficent's cadre. I'm thinking some from Disney's more recent works, like Turbo, Hans, maybe a resurrected Mother Gothel, and maybe Loki. I want to add Dr. Doofensmirtz... but I think I'll save him for later.

My next idea is much more outlandish, (if that's possible,) a completely new story simply set in the KH universe. I read a lot of talk in this thread about deconstructing keyblade-wielding Mary Sue OCs, but I think I'l one-up, ya.

How about OCs who aren't keyblade wielders and aren't even human?

For the protaganist, I'm thinking a toon. A bear most likely, hailing from Mickey's world, that wields a simple sword and shield. I haven't decided the driving plot, but probably something along the line of him being sent to gather up remaining keyblade wielders. (Kind of lame, I know.)

Along the way, he'd meet a few more OCs that would make eventually make a Ragtag Bunch of Misfits. These would be:

A super. I can't decide what powers he or she might have.

A monster, who would be a demolitions expert or something and kind of be the Token Evil Teammate.

Maybe Tinker Bell, so there's one Disney character on their team.

And finally (and this one's weird) a Zabrak, who would be a gunslinger.

The story would focus mostly on comedy, and while searching for wielders, (or whatever I decide they do) rather than meet iconic characters, they would meet One-Scene Wonder s and characters from Big-Lipped Alligator Moments. Examples include The Regurgitator, the sun-dial guy, the trolls, and Uncle Waldo.

My goal would be, for both stories, to make a big, composite universe made out of Disney and Square Enix works, that actually sort of makes sense.

So, what do you guys think? I want to hear some feedback. Again, I'm not very good at finishing what I start, but some interest from other tropers might boost my morale a bit.

Hi, guys! I've been lurking this site for a while, and thought I'd pop in as I'm a very active Kingdom Hearts fic author. :)

My pride and joy is my Antipode series, which is basically my attempt to explore what would happen if Riku was the Keybearer while keeping his KH 1 personality and flaws. I've since taken it in its own direction with new Disney worlds like Great Mouse Detective and Gargoyles and... quite a bit of Birth by Sleep love, actually. Case in point, Aqua appears in the latest fic.

I think my bud yazooairspace actually put these on the rec page, but I thought I might as well share here as well, as I'm always looking for feedback.

Now then, in addition to these stories, I also have a bit of a WIP idea in the works. Basically, I'm considering writing a fic where Terra chose to aid his friends rather than going to fight Xehanort, resulting in a) the prevention of the X-blade's formation, b) Xehanort's body snatching plot ultimately failing and him having to pursue a contingency plan, and c) Vanitas' capture by TAV in order to squeeze some answers out of him.

It'd be a fairly short story, but its sequel would be a bit more ambitious, taking place ten years later with Riku and Kairi as Keyblade apprentices, a much bigger league of villains at Maleficent's side, and as for Sora... well, that's a surprise. ;) I can't say I'll have it up any time soon because I'm still brainstorming, but I'd like to get it started sometime in the near future. Maybe when I finish The Year Between and start hashing out Act 3 of Antipode.

Also, pardon any formatting fail. I'm not sure if the forums use the same type of coding as the site...

That fix fic idea sounds pretty neat, actually! While I would argue that Sora isn't totally childish, I admit I'm not too happy with how he's become this messiah-like figure in the games. And there's always room for more Disney, if you ask me. ;) A larger group of baddies would be a lot of fun.

If that happens in the Hn K world, I hope it involves some sort of super-training that leads up to smashing buildings.

Not that I've seen the anime, but since you gave locales for the other worlds, I'm guessing Shin's city of Southern Cross?

Charles Atlas Superpower + Ludicrous Gibs (+ Manly Feels) are what FOTNS practically runs on, though!

Wouldn't the Fist of the North Star martial art not work on odd little blobs of shadow that lack human pressure points?

I would assume Kenshiro has Super Strength.

They don't have to learn anything. The reason why I don't want them learning any martial arts style from Fist of the North Star is because they're all broken. I want all the characters to be strong not broken.

Hokuto Shinken wouldn't work on them, but Nanto Seiken (which works on the general principle of move your body so fast you make a Razor Wind and tear shit apart before it even knows it) would. Ditto Ryuga's martial art.

It's very reasonable to assume that the big names in FONTS (the Hokuto Brothers and the Nanto Masters, along with other guys like Ryuga, Juza, Fudo, etc.) would have the experience and strength necessary to stomp most Heartless.

@Dorked Hey, thanks for mentioning my idea! Really like your stuff. Haven't gotten around to reading Antipode all the way through, but I plan to. And I really like your BBS AU idea. I always thought the thing with Terra being kind of an idiot (That entire scene with Eraqus was botched and they were OOC, IMO.) was somewhat bad writing on Square Enix's part. (Not that I claim I could write a better story than them, nessesarily.)

Yeah, I don't really think Sora is childish per say. In fact, I wouldn't mind if he was. My problem with him as a character is that they don't really seem to know what to do with him sometimes. Like, he goes from wanting to murder the Orginization to being excited over Santa Clause rather fast. He also doesn't really react to things like... I don't know, people would.

Anyway, I think I might do something smaller for practice before I do anything as ambitious as my Fix Fic thing, considering I haven't really done much writing. I was actually thinking of doing a thing where Sonic The Hedgehog gets dropped into the middle of Twilight Town during Days (with, of course falling head first into the ground.) and have him derail the plot just by being there. It would probably be pretty short, depending on where he goes.

Never heard of it before, but Antipode does look pretty snazzy. I'll take a look at it later.

I have a KH fic too, y'know. Not that I've touched it in a couple of years or so....

@Darth Taco: Aw, thanks! :D Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself. And no worries— I know Antipode's crazy long. I am still surprised at how long TYB's turning out to be, but I guess that's what happens when you write a fic with a larger group of protagonists and mini-arcs. It's been a fun little experiment, but I'll be glad when I get to the next fic and return to mostly focusing on Riku.

Regarding BBS, I feel the same. I understand that they needed an explanation for Terra getting possessed, but it could have been executed a bit better. I don't really see Terra as stupid like a lot of KH fans do, but I do wish they had shown more signs of contemplation before he went with the villains. Apparently the BBS novels make it clear that Terra does have doubts in places, but since they're Japan-only, it's tough to find good translations.

Sora in KH 2 is... tricky, but I think part of the problem is that KH 2's writing is all over the place. Having Maleficent+Pete and the Organization as two sets of baddies isn't a bad idea, but I feel like they could've juggled them a lot better. And in Sora's case, I think a part of the problem is that the Organization disappears for such a huge chunk of the game, so he's got all this anger directed at them when he's barely encountered them before Hollow Bastion.

I also totally approve of Sonic and KH shenanigans, being a fan of both serious. It sounds like it could lead to some amusing situations, especially if he had a run in with Seifer at some point.

@Eva Unit 01: Awesome. :D Hope you enjoy. I'll see if I can take a look at your KH fic later as well. Right now I'm about to head out for a movie.

On a random note, what are some Disney worlds you think would work well with Final Fantasy characters? For the next Antipode fic, I am very, very temped to slip Zidane and Tantalus into the Tangled world and possibly have Cecil make an appearance in the world of The Black Cauldron. I just started playing IX and am thoroughly enjoying it. Such a charming cast of characters, and it's a shame that Vivi has such a minor role in the KH games.

IX is indeed amazing. I should get back to playing it. Right after I finish replaying VII and VIII.

As to your question.... hrm.... you mention Tangled and The Black Cauldron, but what other worlds do you plan to use in the future? And speaking of the Black Cauldron, I think I can see Shadow fitting in there.

Beyond that, not really a whole lot of ideas.

'Cept maybe the Cloud of Darkness being among Facilier's Friends on the Other Side.

Has anyone ever written a KH fanfic where, in a superhero universe, Donald becomes PK? Or Maui Mallard in a ninja world? I mean, it's like a natural, right?

Maui Mallard is just a character he played, not like Papernik at all. Papernik is an actual identity of Donald's.

For Act 3, my tentative list of Disney worlds iiiis... Treasure Planet, Tangled, Atlantis, Frozen, Black Cauldron, Lilo and Stitch, Incredibles, Princess and the Frog, Hunchback, Gargoyles (during City of Stone), Tron, and Monsters Inc. I've considered incorporating Robin Hood and Rescuers Down Under as well, but I don't wanna overwork myself.

Regarding Paperinik, I feel like that'd be a great fit for Donald in a superhero themed world, like Incredibles or Darkwing Duck. Actually, a tag team between DW and Paperinik sounds incredibly awesome. One of these days I need to read those comics...

I still stand by my suggestion of putting Shadow in the Black Cauldron world. Come to think of it, might be able to squeeze Kefka in there too, if you were so inclined.

I also still stand by having COD as one of Facilier's Friends On The Other Side.

I somehow get the feeling that Vaan and co in the Treasure Planet storyline could also have some interesting possibilities.
