Concept is good. Execution is bad. It shouldn't be hard to find another image of that pose.

Agreed. If we could take them and put them in some kind of new background like a movie poster or TV show ad, that would work better.

Not being able to pothole the source isn't really a good reason to pull or change the page image. It's nice if we can link to the source, but not nearly as important as having the image be a good clear illustration of the trope. Your other points are valid forlooking for a better copy of that image or a better image.

6.1 is right out but the rest I don't know about, Sam and Max aren't that diametrically opposed in my mind.

The characters don't have to be "diametrically opposite" to fit the trope, though. They only need to be an Odd Couple.
