I've promised myself that I'll eventually draw some Ponies from my original setting but I keep drawing the same generic newfoal trooper from my WH 40 K crossover.

As people were asking about it, I'll say that Seraphem told me that he'd been banned, yes.

Today's moral is: USE YOUR WORDS!

That was an enjoyable episode. Kind of frustrating, since each viewpoint had a character so flat and obviously coloured by frustration so as to be unrecognizable except as fanfic, but entertaining as a whole. I liked Spike's exasperation a lot.

I think his anger got the better of him and he raged too hard in some other thread, resulting in his being banhammered.

I actually loved how much of a caricature the others were in each of each other's heads. It was really funny.

Like, they were ridiculously off and it made me laugh. This was an episode done right.

Like that is how they each saw themselves and each other. It was a lot to keep track of.

Alright, so let's give this Legends of Everfree business a shot.

  • So Midnight Sparkle isn't done being a thing. That's kinda neat.
  • That car just illegally passed on a double yellow line!
  • I was expecting Spike to be using nature walk as a euphamism for bathroom. Also, I'd forgotten he could talk.
  • Silly AJ, apple trees don't grow in forests. Your foraging will be for naught.
  • Flash Sentry "cool story, bro"'d himself. Alright, Flash, I'll give you credit for a chuckle.
  • Of course, you lose that point for trying to hit on human!Twilight despite knowing that it's not the same Twilight you were flirting with in the first two movies.
  • That's the camp director? She barely looks old enough to pass for councilor, let alone director.
  • "My mom needs new potholders." [lol]
  • Oh for... they're setting Twilight up with ANOTHER love interest? Really? Alright, everybody strap yourselves in for the love triangle.
  • The girl handles the boys' sleeping quarters, and the boy handles the girls'? That... seems rife for abuse.
  • The fact that this guy's supposed to be old enough to own and operate this camp makes him flirting with Twilight extra creepy.
  • No, it wasn't, Rarity. It was creepy. Suuuuper creepy.
  • Oh, Filthy Rich is a villain in this? Huh. He seemed like a reasonably okay dude in Equestria.
  • "And why can't I, an actual, factual, magical unicorn not do it, too? This is BS!"
  • Tents with actual furniture inside just seem wrong to me. If there's going to be actual furniture (with decorative pottery, no less), they should have cabins. [/camping snob]
  • Oh, so Sunset can read minds via physical contact now. ...she should probably avoid shaking hands at any brony conventions.
  • Sunset: "Until I what?"
  • Aw, actually a sweet moment with Sunset and Flash, there.
  • Holy shit, that dock is a death trap.
    • Alternatively, I know AJ's got a hell of a kick, but this is ridiculous.
  • Okay, that's a nice thought and all, girls, but I sincerely doubt any of you have the engineering and drafting expertise to design a safe dock, let alone construct one in only a week with a workforce of inexperienced high schoolers and no tools or materials. Really, leave this one to professionals.
  • You... wanna maybe share those with the rest of the camp, Pinkie?
  • Legend of Gaia Everfree, eh? Alright, time for some headcanon jossing! Let's find out just how ruined my fanfic premise is.
  • I'm not sure summer camps were really something people built in that era of time.
  • Thought that Tree Hugger looming up behind him for a second.
  • Alright, so only partially jossed. I think I can still work with that. Biggest change involved is going to be a gender flip.
  • It's always a little weird when Dash is the voice of reason.
  • Man, you girls are REALLY bad at this whole "water under the bridge" thing.
  • Well THAT'S going to inspire some clop.
  • Apparently Rainbow Dash isn't the only one who knows karate anymore.
  • That twig bed is deceptively sturdy. Unlike that fragile dock built out of heavy timbers... apparently one of the rules of the Everfree is that the sturdiness of wood is inversely proportional to its mass here.
  • Well, nevermind what I said before. Apparently dock-building is something that a group of skill-less teenagers can throw together in a single afternoon. They should quit school now and go into independent contracting.
  • Your mistake was using actual timber! Rebuild it with match sticks! It'll be indestructible!
  • Oh, I guess we are doing songs, after all. I'd kinda forgotten after the intro theme was the only one for the first 25 minutes.
  • The way these character models are proportioned, shorts look really weird on them. They look like they're belted around their stomachs instead of their waists.
  • This development with Twilight being afraid of the Midnight inside her is a good one, but I can't help but feel like it maybe should have been explored with Sunset back in Rainbow Rocks, instead.
  • Had to take a break to let the dogs out, and back with a theory: the camp siblings are pulling a Scooby Doo con with Gaia Everfree to scare Filthy Rich away from foreclosing on the camp. Calling it now.
  • Suspicious creepy older guy is suspicious. I feel more confidant in my theory already.
  • "Like the fact that I never went to school, thereby leaving me unqualified to hold literally any job other than camp co-director, and even then I'm not actually qualified for that, either. We do our finances by throwing pebbles in the lake and counting the number of rings. That's probably why we're in crushing debt to Mr. Rich."
  • Okay, slight alteration. Creepy older guy is pulling a Scooby Doo to scare the campers away so his sister will be forced to sell to Filthy Rich and he can go live in town.
  • Suspicious creepy older guy is still creepy. Stop flirting with the high school student!
  • Stop enabling this relationship, Sunset! I know your view of human maturity is somewhat skewed being a horse and all, but there's some sketchy authority figure coming onto minor shiz going on here!
  • Actually, it's mostly about grip strength and pushing with your legs.
  • OH GOD Applejack's poor hands! They must be rope burned completely raw!
  • ...is the lake directly on the other side of those bushes? That seems unsafe.
  • It's a hot summer's day with nary a cloud in the sky. I think she's gonna live, lady.
  • You also shouldn't add sprinkles to cookies before baking them.
  • You'd think you girls would have learned by now to actually listen to Sunset when it comes to magic stuff.
  • And waterlogged! And sinking! And then it won't be delicious, because it'll taste like lake water! And fish live in there!
  • How would you know? You've known her for a day.
  • Unsurprisingly, Sunset has the best lantern.
  • That's a very awkward running cycle.
  • That's my girl, Sunset. You solve that mystery halfway through the movie. You solve it, girl!
  • Matchsticks, girls! Build it with matchsticks! It'll survive armageddon!
  • That... was surprisingly dark, even without it actually happening.
  • Pinkie Pie is the TF 2 Pyro. It's now officially canon.
  • Applejack, there's no need to show off. That's Rainbow's department.
  • That's an odd camera angle with the water in that upshot at the end of the dock.
  • Oh no, don't you do it, movie. Don't you dare. Don't you DARE hook Sunset back up with Flash. I swear to god, movie, if you try to take my wai- [technical difficulties]
  • Huh. Alright, good fake out, movie. I'll give you that one.
  • I'm sure the fact that all those rocks are color-coordinated with the girls will be completely irrelevant to the resolution of the film.
  • "Darn it, reeeeaally wishing I'd gotten fireballs instead of empathy right about now."
  • "She looks... taller. And I have a sudden, inexplicable urge to do her bidding!"
  • Whelp, there's the best song and villain since the Sirens.
  • "Equestrian magic? You're saying racing jockeys are controlling my sister!?"
  • I think Rarity just had a fashiongasm.
  • Why are you girls so invested in keeping the camp? You've been here for, like, three days, tops. I'm not sure that's enough to look past the camp director being possessed by alternate dimension magic and trying to imprison you all for eternity.
  • So we just established that this benefit concert needs to happen by tomorrow... and you're sending invitations by snail mail. Also, how do you have current mailing addresses for all your former campers?
  • Bulk Biceps' pink tux and shorts may be the best thing ever.
  • "And for helping us raise enough money to save Camp Everfree! ...for this month! Next month we'll be back in the red, and Filthy Rich will be foreclosing on us again. So, uh, it's more like, thanks for postponing the inevitable, I guess."
  • Dude, seriously, she's a minor. Go away.
  • "That sounds like a goodbye." "Yeah, it's almost like I was only going to be here for a week."
  • Seriously, shouldn't there be some kind of camp policy against staff hitting on campers? Is that why you guys are out of money? Lawsuit settlements for rightfully angry parents?
  • I'm telling you, girls; matchsticks.

Final thoughts: Better than Friendship Games, not as good as Rainbow Rocks. Gloriosa made for a good villain (I'd put her on par with the Sirens, easily, possibly slightly above), and Timber was a good fake out, but the stuff with Twilight and Timber seriously just creeps me out with the age difference in play. Gloriosa's villain song was the best the franchise has had since the Sirens, but none of the others really stood out. I'm also a little worried that human!Twilight may be overtaking Sunset as the main character of the franchise, when I feel like it should really be Sunset's series first and foremost since she took the helm from pony!Twilight at the end of Rainbow Rocks.

In particular I'm worried about how her empath powers are going to figure into the series going forward. They seem like an awkward fit for the franchise, since they remove any potential mystery about a new villain's backstory, motivation, plans, etc., but offer no apparent way for her to act on that information in a way keeping with the series' tendency to resolve conflicts with flashy magical battles. In order to keep that mystery to new characters, they'll necessarily have to invent ways to prevent Sunset from fully utilizing her power for effective information gathering, when that's about the only thing it can be used for as long as they aren't willing to let Sunset just talk every new enemy down. It also leaves her rather at a loss when the big battles do inevitably come around, as her power is the only one with no direct combat application - even Fluttershy can at least play ranger.

Overall, a decent watch. I'm just concerned for some of the implications it has for the franchise going forward; specifically for Sunset's role in it.

Oh, and my headcanon didn't get jossed, after all. Yay me!

I haven't seen it yet, but I'd be kinda surprised if it had much to say about the origins of the Everfree? But I haven't been keeping up with the news.

I hope not, because I have my own Headcanon (That the forest grew on ground that had been heavily 'irradiated' by a massive magical event/contest)

Wasn't the everfree caused by discord's black magic chaos seeds?

...Or is that simply why the ponies haven't managed to replace it with farmland yet?

[up][up] No, the black seeds only caused the plunder vines.

I said this earlier in the EQG thread, but after the lackluster sales for Friendship Games toys and how scaled back the dolls for LOE were in comparison, I was convinced for awhile that they were going to wrap the series with this film. So I guess my favorite part of the movie was the fact that there's going to be more movies. Or at least more EQG.

My favorite part about that was Pinkie's line "wait until you find out how even more unlike herself she sounds". She was almost self-conscious.

Oh, are we talking about Everfree? Because I have a question about that. How exactly did Filthy Rich come into ownership of the forest? Did he buy it from the sibling’s parents/grandparents? The girl said she could pay him back if she just had some time and acted like making every pony happy would mean she’d get enough money to pay their rent. How is that a thing? Did the principals not pay her until after the trip is over? Will they not pay her if they have a lousy time?

Okay, well here's where I thought it was caused by the vines. See, they lost the castle of the twin sisters to the forest. What happened? Well, discord dropped those plunder seeds. Maybe their dark energy made the once safe forest immune to pegasus magic? That is why they were able to reclaim the castle after the vines were purged..

[up][up]By the time the film starts, she still hadn't raised enough money and by all indications, knew she wasn't going to. When the camp siblings were snipping each other during their introduction, Timber implies that Gloriosa's speech about the camp gift is pointless since there won't be a next generation of campers anyway. Her eagerness to make everyone happy was just her way of going out with a bang, trying to leave as much on her terms as possible.

Her continued use of magic and the stress of her situation made her mentally unstable though, to the point that she became willing to force the issue by going "Screw the money, I got extradimensional magic powers!" and her mission changed from making the most with what little time she had to actively protecting the camp.

So.Legends of everfree was released on netflix officially right? Can I talk about it here whiout the need of spoiler tags?

Well, better safe than sorry I think Timber is a better love interest than flash, they took a bit more time to him to actually interact with twilight, and unlike Brad he actually was important to the story, and cant be completely removed from it whit just the need of a few adjustments to it,like UFP did,Also it may be just me but he dosent really look any older than twi

Also,I kinda sad that we will probably not see any parody of this from MAS in a least a few year, because Sunset´s powers seem perfect to bring back the rubber ducky joke.

^ Even if their ages aren't that far apart (he's probably in his early twenties vs Twi's late teens), they're in pretty starkly divided life stages. He's an adult, and she's a minor. A minor he has a measure of authority over. He's the camp co-director, and she's one of his campers. That's pretty skeevy to me. If he'd entered the picture after Twilight graduated, or if he were still a high schooler himself and his parents were running the camp, that'd sit better with me. As is, I can't really get past the adult/minor thing.
