It's definitely good to have a balance between characters who make mistakes yet are also competent enough to fix them.
Indeed. Always good to have characters learn in situations, and not repeat the same mistakes in later episodes.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayWell, that almost begs for a repeat.
Optimism is a duty.I was going to comment about the fact that most of the people on that list aren't active here anymore, but given that the original post is eight years old I'm actually quite surprise to see as many familiar names there as I do.

I just checked the last 12 pages of the thread out of curiosity, and it looks like the only people on the list who posted in the last month here are Ginger, Sereg and myself. I was expecting there to be more. I wonder whatever happened to Kegisak.
Although to be fair, I think Rainbow and Pannic were around back then but not included in the list (though this may be my memory playing tricks on me - with such a long history, it's hard to remember who appeared when). Lalalei 2001 sort of was, but wasn't active at the time (IIRC, Lalalei was the very first post in the thread, but then went away for years before posting again). I think Chariot might have been here in the early days too but can't remember for sure.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI'm still around and reading the thread, but I just haven't posted anything recently because I haven't had anything I wanted to comment about. And I likely was around then too because from what I remember I first started watching the G4 MLP series during the gap between the 1st and 2nd seasons, so if that post was in 2012 then it would have been after I started watching the show and probably posting here too.

Ozai fires lightning at Zuko. Zuko redirects it back into Ozai. Ozai backhands the lightning into a wall and the resulting dust from the impact covers Zuko's escape.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI have to say the image of Ozai pimp-slapping a lightning bolt is hilarious.
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.ride the lightning
New theme music also a box...so that scene would have been improved if Ozai did something that was literally impossible in the series lore?
I like the scene pretty well as is. Ozai's a character whose central philosophy is a combination of Might Makes Right and militant nationalism. And Zuko's over here with a superpower that was literally obtained via multiculturalism, just rocking the face off of Ozai's ultimate expression of his Right-Making Might.
- Ozai: I respect only MYSELF. And that's why I have A GUN!
- Zuko: Look again! I have your GUN!
- Ozai: Okay but how.
- Zuko: By respecting other cultures.
- Ozai: Please don't shoot me with my gun.
That’s great. XD
I like to keep my audience riveted.Ozai then tries to shoot Aang with the gun, but Aang steals his gun and throws it away, then later beats his ass. But when Ozai tries to get a cheap shot in, Aang breaks all his fingers so he can't use a gun or other weapons again.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit. I've heard a number of critics dismiss that as a cheap cop-out ending, weaseling out of a proper resolution to Aang's moral dilemma of "achieve spiritual enlightenment" versus "stop the Big Bad from going full Hitler".
Let's be honest: Does anyone actually think Nickelodeon would ever approve of having a child take on a villain with the explicit intention of killing him?
No, but I was still very disappointed by the cop-out ending. Especially after all the build up to the moral dilemma. It's also pretty stupid given that Aang's killed hundreds of people offscreen. But it doesn't count when they don't have names, I guess.
Of course, it didn't help matters that crucial dialog was delivered by the unintentionally unintelligible Lion Turtle.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayWait, Aang what?
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Given how the MLP episode "One Bad Apple" came out 8 years ago today, I've come to dislike the episode even more because of its clunky bullying message.
Anti bullying messages are always clunky because they always boil to the same thing "Fight back is wrong!Tell an adult!" Now don't get me wrong telling an adult is not a bad message but they're always going to condemn any response to a bully because of zero tolerance polices
New theme music also a boxThere are plenty of No One Should Survive That! moments during battles throughout the series.

Optimism is a duty.About "One Bad Apple", I remember liking it when it came out, but that's because I just was relieved that it didn't use "ignore bullies and they'll leave you alone" as its message. This is because I was told that in junior high/high school and I hated being told that for multiple reasons. Although in hindsight, saying to ignore someone is not too likely to be used as a message on a show that emphasizes making friends.

More like Ozai Bitchlord◊, amirite?
i think the finale to avatar was perfectly fine. having aang kill the firelord would have been a horribly cynical conclusion to aang's character arc of personal vs societal expectations
hell, it would have been a *poor* conclusion to the ongoing themes of the show when you consider Iroh and Zuko's philosophies of why they didnt kill Ozai themselves, or why Zuko decided to save Katara rather than kill Azula.
the Fridge Logic behind Ozai's reign is stupid funny though
but, uh, yeah. colorful horses. One Bad Apple is an okay episode, i guess, but its bullying theme was definitely handled poorly

Characters never making mistakes? Boring and frustrating
Characters making NOTHING but mistakes? JUST as boring or frustrating (to me at least)
