[up] Tomorrow.

[up][up] The Nostalgiaween 2011 do have the original opening theme (The X-Files theme) replaced with new music.

Oh, and the Junior review has its best part, the "Boring" song, cut. Though the music used in that scene was royalty-free, so maybe the copyright issue was with the animated sequence?

Rachel's back!

Best line from the review:

Nathan Lane (referring to Nutcracker): "I call him NC for short."

Critic: "What stupid initials."

Additional comments:

I stopped watching NC regularly back in May, so I've missed out on a chunk of reviews. Did he really go most of the year without saying the F word?

When James Rolfe appeared, I was also expecting Macaulay Culkin to suddenly appear alongside him given their recent collaborations. Not helped that James is sitting on one side of his couch, and there's that empty space on the other side...

[up] You know, I'm not sure. It's possible NC actually didn't use the F-word for the entire year because I can't remember of any instance he did. So it was all planned? Impressive if true. And it actually makes sense, considering footage of Doug and Rob's mom at the end, since her one issue with the videos was that Doug swore too much.

Speaking of which, that scene at the end repurposed from the 2013 Christmas episode might be one of the most self-indulgent things CA has ever done, but hey, the sentiment still rings true. And as a way to honor Doug and Rob's mom, I can let it pass.

As for the review, boy, and I thought Freddy Got Fingered was in bad taste! At first I was like "Okay, so I don't really get why the uncle is Einstein, exactly, and yeah, the Nutcracker looks really creepy, but the movie doesn't look that bad—oh, so the rats actually are Nazis? Well, the make-up is some pure nightmare fuel, sure, but still—HOLY FUCKING SHIT ARE THEY ACTUALLY GOING WITH THE HOLOCAUST??!!"

Best part: Rob's utterly bored John Wayne Gracy and his "Pilgrim". And hey, it was nice to see that cavalcade of cameos, including from people I wasn't sure if we would see again on the show in the wake of CTC, like Corey Taylor, UncleYo or Andre the Black Nerd. Oh, and I see Rob is keeping the full beard? I don't think he had one since 2012!

But man, this thumbnail is hideous.

I wonder if next week, we're going to get a smaller review or another bigger video to close out the year, like a clipless review or something. (Though apparently they're not doing Solo.)

More notes:

- This feels like a 70's film! Man all the ideas are pretty bad, and even less well-executed. I never heard of this film before this review, and it baffles me a version like this exists.

- "You forgot that was a thing didn't you?" ... no I didn't. In fact, I thought THAT Nutcracker was what you were gonna review!

- ... I don't get the big significance with the "f word" thing. It's not something I even bothered to notice in all the past years. Hell, I didn't even notice if any of it was bleeped or unbleeped. Was there some internet rule controversy I missed?

- I knew it. The things that made this review 42 minutes long are 1. it's Christmas and it's Doug's favorite holiday so he always wants to show it off with a bang, 2. they're moving and 3. Rachel's here, two things which they incorporated into the pretty lengthy skit, 4. there's a sponsor, 5. there's a charity shout-out, and 6. all the cameos.

- Man the last scene makes me consider deleting my last comment. They ARE a big group, and I bet there's even more people behind the scenes like Michael, the financers, etc.

- Did Doug contact all the remaining reviewers he's still on good terms with in that review montage? -_-

- K. That very last part? The most touching NC moment this year, probably the most touching NC moment ever.

- So is ... like, Rachel in Chicago permanently now?

Rachel is so good, her voice sounds like the only voice that isn't affected by the awful sound quality they get from the sound studio!

[up] ...Honestly, I didn't hear much difference between the sound quality of her voice and of others. CA productions generally don't sound bad to me, and I'm pretty sensitive to bad audio.

Here's what a friend of mine thinks regarding the "F Bomb" thing.

So, Doug mentions he hasn't used the F word in all of 2018, so now there's people that are probably going to go back, watch the 2018 episodes to see if he really didn't use the F word, his videos get more views, and CA gets more revenue. Well played, Doug.

Ehh…. I dunno, if it was intended to be an underhanded way to get views amidst controversy. Doug would have had to have planned this in maybe October or November of last year, and the "Change the Channel" controversy didn't come about until, what April of this year?

I do like the theory proposed that maybe he did it for his mother, which makes since as she did pass away last year (or was it the year before)?

He says "the channel is getting bigger". ... it's been the same size since probably April. I'm including the 4 new crew members who started the side shows on the CA Youtube channel, as well as Barney and Jim. Am I missing something or are there BRAND brand new members that joined in the recent months?

The responses to the video make it feel like people forgot the gigantic fiasco of Channel Awesome that damaged and destroyed the channel and a lot of Doug's credibilities. So... what made it look like more praised with none of the Never Live It Down comments that plagued CA after that fiasco?

  • Did Doug manage to separate himself from McChaud? (REALLY doubt it)
  • Was the review honest to God decent?
  • Did people actually learn to forgive or saw the Critic genuinely improving after being hit with the controversy?
  • Did they just don't want to piss on the memory of Doug's mom?

That is the sad truth of the world. A fiasco occurs, but the guilty never get punished, because everyone forgets about it months later. This is why horrible people remain on Youtube. This is why we have a horrible government. This is why I hate everything.

I see that he’s reviewing a Nutcracker movie. Is it theone where the rats are turned into Nazis? I remember seeing the trailer and thinking to myself “This has to be a joke.”

[up][up][up]If that was the case, I would think that the people of Youtube will never let that fiasco be lived down no matter how hard Doug tried, I would've thought that even the Youtube comments would've been filled with putrid biles.

There's also the words 'CA has a new place'. Does it come with new management?

[up] In the first months in the wake of CTC, comments on CA Twitter, YouTube, etc. used to be full of people angry about the whole thing but such comments are relatively rare nowadays.

[up][up][up] IIRC, Orlando does mostly vlogs, though he used to have a Blip channel where he posted scripted reviews of martial arts films.

@kyun: I'm honestly bit confused here because you really seemed to be angry about fiasco, but you still continue watching NC and make comments here about his videos [lol]

I mean, the whole Fiasco soured NC videos too much for me to watch them objectively that I haven't been watching them since april tongue

The fiasco pretty much revealed doug as complicit in the abuse and mistreatment of the other contributers, mosto f those disgusted by this have already stopped watching.

Imo he cant be forgiven because he has never apoligized or acknowledged anything, and the entire company is tarnished.

But if your laughs are more important to you than all that... have fun i guess.

I rarely watch NC anymore over a certain time period since I thought he was OK with tackling any movies, not just nostalgic ones (hence, I thought he seemed Nostalgia In Name Only). I only popped in again if he reviewed something I'm familiar with. After the fiasco, I just stopped watching altogether because I was pretty sure he'd quickly fall down completely, never to get up again. I guess I was proven wrong, even if the condemnation still remains.

^^I mean, I don't think there is anything wrong with separating work and author and such, so I don't think you need to guilt trip people who still watch NC. I do however find it hypocritical if you complain about people watching NC while watching it yourself [lol]

I'm not sure separating work and author is always possible, though. In this case, the author is very directly and personally involved in his own work, so it is much harder to separate the two.

And an author (or actor) can be so poisonous at some point that their work becomes tainted by it. I found it much harder to enjoy The A-Team, for example, after finding out what kind of a sexist turd George Peppard was to female cast members.

Optimism is a duty.

Interestingly, the Vimeo version of the review doesn't have the cameo from CinemaSins guys. Maybe they sent their footage late?
