Where in he film does it drag? I was of the impression that it didn't really drag all that much

[up] That was just my personal opinion.

I did enjoy the film when I was little.

But now that I'm an adult, I like a tad bit more sophistication in my fiction.

The parts that really only hold my attention now are "Baby Mine" and anything to do with the crows.

They'll remove the crows but not the Siamese Cats in Lady and the Tramp and The Aristocats or the blackfish in The Little Mermaid?

I have a feeling the black fish is just unfortunate colouring, where as the others it's obviously intentional

The blackfish is a clear Al Jolson reference, and certainly intentional.

A Jolson reference at that late a date?

And yeah, I would've cut out the Crows — if only so I could dedicate an entire movie centered around them, with the possible story of them being an allegation for black people fighting for acceptance and for their rights.

While I actually like this idea (as long as you tone down the Stereotypes from the crows by a lot), doing this in the 1940's would've basically killed the Disney Studio; they couldn't access the European Markets at this time, and while most of America was at least against the intense segregation the South had, many of them also wouldn't have supported a Movie about integration in the 40's (especially with the Great Depression still on going and the threat of Hitler being bigger then the integration fight at the time), and especially not a Movie about it in Animated Form. While it could've become a beloved classic, it also most likely would've bankrupted Disney and destroyed the Studio. If anything, the Racist elements of Dumbo might've been their attempt to squeeze whatever dollars they could get out of the Southern Audiences.

Now, if the Studio wants to do it today, and shows real care and polish on the subject, and (again) cuts down on the Stereotypes, I'd all be in favor of that. Maybe make it about the kids of the original Crows and their fight for a better life instead of accepting their parents Status Quo, while the 'White Birds' (Swans? Ducks? Chickens?) fight to keep the Crows down and away, and the crows succeed by getting the other Animals on their side because of the cruelty and harassment from said 'White Birds', plus the charisma of the main Crow.

They could do a mini-TV show about the crows. Which shows them not being accepted anywhere due to being, well, crows, and not bluebirds.

Or they go really meta and have the crows encountering all Disney off-colour moments. I mean, we all know that sunflower grew up and is now the queen of the centaurs, right?

[up] Not yet, but maybe it should be. Someone should do a picture of grown up sunflower which reflects somehow how times have changed since back then (and ideally also acknowledging that there is still a long way to go).

Changing the subject, I’ll be curious to see how Hollywood Studios will be able to handle the influx of people from Galaxy’s Edge.

Right now, they have very few real attractions, and most are lower capacity, E Tickets. Not counting shows, there’s Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Star Tours, Toy Story Mania, Slinkey Dog Dash, and Alien Swirling Saucers, which is just a dressed up carnival ride. There are a lot of shows, but they have limited appeal for returning guests (except maybe Muppet-Vision 3D), unless they want a chance to take a break from walking for a half an hour.

The one new high capacity Omnimover style attraction, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, a dark ride based on the Mickey Shorts, is rumored to be delayed to 2020.

Yeah, that's gonna be interesting considering I don't think that Hollywood Studios will have the same "special ticket" restriction that Disneyland will be using for Galaxy's Edge.

[up][up]I'm guessing they are hoping that the other parks can soak some of the capacity, especially since Disney World has a lot more first time guests on average than the largely local supported Disneyland. Sure Galaxy's edge is the newest thing, but there is a good chance that a given guest hasn't been on Expedition Everest, Test Track,or The Haunted Mansion either.

[up] I imagine that the opening of Pandora in Animal Kingdom didn't cause as many problems with capacity as this will.

While, like Hollywood Studios, they didn't have a huge amount of rides, it's much more spread out, and rides aren't the primary draw anyway, since it's a working zoo.

It’s just as bad as I thought...

When Orlando Rising spoke to Len Testa, founder and president of Touring Plans, in March about how Walt Disney World will manage crowds when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens in August, he expected that Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway would be open by that time to take some of the pressure off the new land.

“However, if it’s not, I’d pray for the cast members,” Testa said. “Because at that point, there’d be 50,000 people in a park with only 7 rides. And of those 7 rides, only 2 of them would be without height restrictions and thus appropriate for small children.”

It’s now time to start praying.

In a blog post announcing the attraction would be added to Disneyland in Anaheim in 2022, Disney confirmed rumors first reported by Blog Mickey.com that the ride’s opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is being delayed. Originally scheduled to open this fall, its debut is now been pushed back to spring 2020.

Without a new attraction at the front of the park to divert some guests from Galaxy’s Edge — which itself is opening with only one of its two rides — Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have significant capacity issues. Excluding Galaxy’s Edge, Testa said the rest of the park’s attractions can handle “maybe 15,000 people per hour, tops.”

“So that actually reduces how many people can get in the park, because Disney doesn’t want three hour lines for Voyage of the Little Mermaid,” he said.

There also may not be enough places for guests to eat in the park, Testa said, further exacerbating the crowd issues.

For Disney, this is a problem without an easy solution. The quick fixes — like additional showtimes for the park’s stage productions or adding more character meet-and-greets — can’t make up for the loss of a high-capacity ride starring Walt Disney’s most famous creation.

I'm about as nerd as they come when it comes to Star Wars but... I think I'll hold off on checking this out. Y'know... until the heat dies down. About a decade should do it.

I'd say unless you have to see it first, I'd avoid even trying to get to Galaxy's edge (in either resort) until next year.

[up] at least.

That’s the problem with just having E tickets, and neglecting your high capacity mid-ticket omnimover dark rides and flats, and such.

They may not be the newest or most exciting type of attraction, but are absolutely vital for handling capacity.

I'll be going to Disneyland, but not until December (my usual annual trip). That will give some time to work out the ride's bugs, and to get a handle on how the crowd flows go.

One sign of how desperate Disneyland is to fix their crowd control issues is they've actually given up some retail space to make some room. The entrance to Adventureland is a chronic bottleneck. They've removed the fruit stand next to the Jungle Cruise to create a stroller parking lot, and moved the seating for the Bengal BBQ into what used to be a store.

I'll try to squeeze in a visit to Galaxy's Edge on some Sunday night in September. I don't work Mondays and I doubt traffic will be high during that specific time window right after school season starts back up.

This is, of course, assuming that 1.) the land doesn't close early like Toontown and 2.) Disneyland will stay open until at least 11.
