Because it's utterly ridiculous that Marvel (Avengers, X-men, Spider-man) doesn't have a fanfiction thread, I'm making this one.

Please feel welcome to include recommendations, prompts and chat a bit while here. Gen fics, shipping fics, etc are all allowed.

Too start things off:

I keep your fingers busy This is just a cute little thing about Tony playing with Bruce's fingers/hand when bored.

Hail Hydra: the continuing adventures of the not-especially-mad but certainly occasionally evil scientist, Phillip Coulson, enemy of SHIELD Because, seriously...that title. Everything this person writes is GOLD. So, get comfortable.

I don't read that many Marvel fanfics, but I have come across a few that are particularly good.

Variant Strain is a fusion of Spider Man and Prototype that tells the story of Spider-man in a world where instead of being bitten by a radioactive spider, Peter Parker was infected with a strain of the Hydra virus. Furthermore, the entire Marvel Universe has been altered to fit the style of Prototype. This fic is ongoing and is pretty damn good.

The Shocker: Legit tells the story of the Shocker in his attempts to become a superhero. Which, given his existing reputation as a super villain, his lack of actual super powers, and his extremely destructive weaponry, he's rather bad at. This is easily the best Marvel Comics fic I've come across, and is actually finished.

Hmm...not many people read Marvel Fanfics then?

Polarity by Chris Meyer.

Transistor would also be recommended like mad, if the author hadn't pulled it down for repairs.

Well, Marvel has managed to brutally murder my interest in all of their comics other than their Venom and Scarlet Spider series as of late, so I don't generally particularly look for anything Marvel related unless some outside force causes me to.

I have one fanfic, but I've been busy with college, and have not been able to update recently. I am also worried, given that one of the young heroes involved is connected to a...polarizing...character.

I tentatively started a Marvel fanfic project two summers ago, but I never really got that far into it. I might revisit the concept sometime if I have some free time.

Short version:
A fic set in the early days of Earth-616 (i.e. the 1960s) portraying the first team-up between representatives from all three of Marvel's primary superhero teams (plus Spider-Man) as they are forced to put aside their mutual distrust of one another and work together to investigate an extraterrestrial threat that affects them all.

Long version:
It's classic 1960s-era Marvel, just as all of the big figures of Earth-616 are starting to come into their own. Reed Richards and his crew are world-famous celebrities, Charles Xavier's five original students are putting aside their differences to become True Companions, Steve Rogers is finally adjusting to the pace of modern life with his new allies in the Avengers, and an 18 year-old Peter Parker (still coping with Gwen Stacy's recent death) is settling into his role as a vigilante.

When the story begins, Peter has just accepted a job as an apprentice in Reed's lab, having recently revealed his identity to the Four. A teenaged Scott Summers, still a mostly untried hero, is trying to put aside his insecurity to grow into the leader that his mentor Xavier believes him to be. Cap is just as much of a badass as ever, but struggles to trust the new generation of heroes — most of whom have never experienced war firsthand.

At the start, Nick Fury detects the arrival of an alien spacecraft, carrying a shape-shifting alien scientist who was exiled from his homeworld, and now carries a mobile laboratory in his ship. He appoints Steve (the finest field operative that he's ever known) to investigate the ship, believing its pilot to be an alien aggressor. Reed, wanting to study the ship and its occupants, persuades Fury to let him join the mission, and brings along Peter as his "assistant" (with Fury and SHIELD unaware that Reed's young assistant is actually Spider-Man). Charles Xavier also catches wind of the mission and volunteers Scott to join as the mutant community's representative, believing it to be a vital opportunity to prove the X-Men's loyalty to the US government. On the sidelines, Victor Von Doom deploys operatives in the Latverian military to investigate the ship, wanting to steal its technology for himself.

As the story goes on, the four-man team chases the exiled alien scientist (called Xyriaas) across the globe as he goes on the run from SHIELD captivity, drawing the heroes into a struggle with the full might of Latveria. It gradually becomes clear that Xyriaas wishes to terraform Earth to make it a new homeland for his people.

Moments that I want to incorporate:

  • The shape-shifting Xyriaas uses skin-to-skin contact with Von Doom to take his form, which makes his look like Von Doom without his facial scars. Forced to confront someone who looks exactly like his old friend Victor, Reed recalls his early friendship with Victor, and his fall from grace.
  • Scott and Peter bond over their mutual experiences with young love, and Scott helps Peter through his grieving process as he remembers Gwen. At some point, Scott wonders how he could ever cope with losing his true love Jean (who he has just started openly dating at the beginning of the story), foreshadowing her later death in The Dark Phoenix Saga.

[up]I'm afraid you've got things out of order here. By the time Gwen Stacy died, the X-Men had been canceled, and they were in "Also in this Issue!" purgatory.

[up] Yeah, I might cut out the bit about it taking place after Gwen Stacy's death. I was just reaching for a way to have some Peter/Scott bonding.

If nothing else, I'd just have them both bonding over their respective relationships, with a little bit of "I don't know what I'd do without Gwen/Jean" foreshadowing.

It's really easy to forget Scott and Peter have been around for about the same amount of time (and might be around the same age as well. I know Iceman was the youngest of the original X Men and Beast was the oldest, which put Scott, Warren and Jean arguably somewhere in the middle).

And now, Peter is Doctor Fucking Octopus and Scott is essentially in Magneto's role respectively.

Fuck you Comics. Fuck you.

@sparkykandy Uh, do you like Spectacular Spider-Man? Because Joe-Merl (on deviant art and FFN) posted a good story about Peter's thoughts after ep 9 about his relationship with Harry. (And I shall dig for more Harry Osborn related fics b/c I think he's an awesome character but there really aren't any good Spectacular Spidey fics with him as a main character)

All Star Marvel is a site that has some really good marvel fanfics, it's like the ultimate universe in that it takes from the comics but puts its own spin on the continuity, plus anyone can write for the site. I personally recommend the Spider-man series.

Anyone ever thought if it would be good to make a dedicated thread for DC/Marvel crossover fics (and maybe Amalgamverse-style fusion fics too)?

@Night: Any particular reason why?

I think Iceman, Human Torch and Spider-Man are all supposed to be around the same age, and they were all high school kids around the time they started their superhero careers. I think Jean was the second youngest of the original X-Men, and Angel the second oldest, leaving Scott right in the middle, but I'm going from memory here.

Here's a random idea I had for a fan-fic this afternoon: Nelson, Murdock, & Walters, I call it.

Here's the pitch: Matt Murdock and Foggie Nelson are two of the best lawyers in New York, dedicated to protecting the people of the city from injustice, whether in the courts or by Matt's other job, the superhero Daredevil. One day, they meet with perhaps their counterpart on the West Coast, Jennifer Walters, also known as She-Hulk. Jen's moved to the Big Apple after investigations of the attempt on her life that necessitated the transfusion that mutated her has lead to Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin. Seems a case Jen was working got her too close to Fisk's operations in L.A., and he wanted her eliminated. In hopes of finally being able to prosecute Fisk for his crimes against the city, Matt and Foggie agree to a partnership.

And I haven't seen nearly enough good She-Hulk fanfiction. Somebody needs to get on that.

I posted this idea on the "Fanfic Ideas Only You Think Are Good" thread a while back. I guess it would fit here too:

An AU X-Men fic focused on Cyclops and Phoenix, inspired by this set of reimagined custom figures. Essentially X-Men meets X Files.

Cyclops is Sam Summers, a young Gadgeteer Genius who was plunged into a seven-year coma after a childhood encounter with the mysterious extradimensional Shi'ar aliens (portrayed as The Greys), who abducted his parents and younger brother and left him an orphan. A bald-headed G-Man named Colonel Xavier Lee revives him with the help of a brain-computer interface made from scavenged technology from Area 51, in hopes of recovering the intel about the Shi'ar trapped in his brain. Sam winds up dependent on the computer ("The Monocle") as he tries to piece his fractured memories together.

Phoenix is Jeanne Griswell, a teenage telepath who spent most of her formative years in a mental hospital because her mental link with the telepathic Shi'ar plagued her with constant visions. Lee rescues her and drafts her into his special task force, wanting to cultivate her psychic powers and use them to establish contact with the Shi'ar. As the story goes on, she comes dangerously close to Going Mad From the Revelation as she tries to piece together clues about the Shi'ar's nature and true purpose.

They're opposed at every turn by Erik Eisenhardt (known by the cryptic codename "Magnus"), a fugitive domestic terrorist, and a former partner of Colonel Lee, who went mad after being framed for high treason and imprisoned in a government-run prison camp. Magnus sees the Shi'ar as humanity's true overlords, believing that the human race is no longer worthy of ruling itself.

Sam and Jeanne bond over the course of the story, with each trying to help the other cope with the aftereffects of their difficult past. They end up forming the backbone of a secret task force devoted to uncovering the truth about alien involvement on Earth.

At some point in the story, they hijack a Shi'ar Flying Saucer and use it to travel to a possible Bad Future, where they meet a Future Badass version of their son Nate Summers, who leads a rebellion on a Shi'ar-colonized Earth.
