I think spreading the Power out may have been a good Move. "Strength will not bring victory" after all, So Ozma just being stronger dosent seem like it would help alot. But creating new Guardians with Magic was a good plan.

Maybe. But at the very least if he had to split it he should have the ability to control who and where it goes to instead of having it be random. Like most of the problems in the show seem to come down to missing or enemy Maidens.

Okay, quick question. I was visiting the Flanderization page and saw that Penny was labeled as this trope for V7. Couple things. First is I really don't see how, and second is that it's a once sentence description which kinda feels like it's being shoehorned. Is she really a case of this? Because I honestly don't see it at all.

Maybe this is the wrong thread for it, but I figured I'd bring it up here anyway.

[up][up][up]Problem is salem just now have a maiden with her, meaing she just turn his plan against him, with a move or two done right cinder could have the power of fria and penny, which add on how efective this was in the long run.

[up][up] That just inherently sounds like complaining about stuff. Even without reading the entry itself, I really cannot see how V7 is flanderizing Penny.

I find that weird, most complains about penny was that a) she have a sort of angst what angst about the fact she was murder and the whole thing with beacon and b) she was kinda sorta underutilized since the plot move all over the place and c) the whole thing with killing her.

Flanderization? If anything, her second incarnation acted much more human than her first.

My posts make considerably more sense read in the voice of John Ratzenberger.

Not sure if anyone noticed, but I already removed that entry.

They have released a promo for Japanese Volume 6 too. Also, hearing Oscar's JP voice, it's both fitting and a bit offputting at once. Fitting in that he sounds suitably young, off putting because it's obviously a woman's voice actress and a far cry from the more raspy voice given by Aaron Dismuke. Though, not a fan of Maria's voice. She sounds more like Reborn than an old woman. And while I'll give them props on not outright spoiling Cinder's survival since they still show a scene of her with a hood up, I'm taking those points back for outright spoiling Neo's return and Salem's original appearance.

So I asked this question before and got no answer, but does anyone know why they are starting up the Japanese dub after all this time?

Presumably a deal with Warner Bros. Japan is the cause of it. This is just hearsay, but apparently RWBY in Japan was more loved for being an Academy of Adventure like series, which as we all know was dropped by the conclusion of Volume 3 due to the Fall of Beacon, which gave Volume 4 middling reception as a result. It's because of that they apparently stopped dubbing it past Volume 4 for so long.

Now, this next part is just speculation, but I'm fairly certain we're all familiar with people watching Anime via streaming services or unlicensed sites if the series isn't licensed in the West. It's entirely possible people in Japan who still wanted to watch the series past Volume 4 did something similar, looking up illegal streaming sites to watch Japanese subtitled versions of the series. This could have gotten back to Warner Bros. Japan, who in turn realized there was still a market for RWBY as a result, and since Rooster Teeth is now a subsidiary of Otter Media, which is itself a subsidiary WarnerMedia Sales and Distribution, then Warner Bros Japan legally has the rights to dub RWBY still, and decided to start the Japanese dub again upon seeing there was still an audience.

[up] Oh yeah, Japanese folks pirating stuff to see Western works is absolutely a thing. I agree with your assessment that they probably saw evidence it was financially worthwhile to continue dubbing the series.

Kinda of a request for an edit to be done in RWBY: Team RWBY.

Please remove Bastard Boyfriend from Dark and Troubled Past in Blake's section.

  • Dark and Troubled Past: She's an ex-White Fang Faunus who's on the run from her terrorist past. Word of God confirms her relationship with Adam to have been an [[BastardBoyfriend abusive one]].

The Bastard Boyfriend trope is basically a Fetishized Romanticized Abuser male Love Interest. An example would be Christian Grey from Fifty Shades of Grey. Adam Taurus' abuse towards Blake isn't romanticized therefore doesn't fall under what the trope is actually about.

I'm not surprised and honestly, screw anyone that throws a tantrum about it. I applaud them making the decision to prioritize the safety and health of their team, even if it means dealing with bratty internet people.

I'd rather wait a bit longer and have a great volume produced in safety, than a bunch of people getting sick from Crunch + ongoing Pandemic.

Well I have been waiting long enough for the return of Young Justice so I can certainely wait for this delayed ninth volume.

Better for them to take care of themselves, and hopefully it will have positive consequences on the scripts.

While I understand why they did it.

But from a personal standpoint the delay will probably do more to make me not care about a volume I wasn't to enthused about going into in the first place. Obviously it goes without saying that that's nowhere near as important as the safety of their employees. But I have to wonder if this will impact V9's viewership.

Any Headcanons on the Faunas war? It's kind of interesting how we've got little info on it.

You know it really is a disadvantage that Salem can figure out a way to siphon magic but Oz can't take back his own.

I'm actually very confident that it can be done, and that Ozma probably does know how. However, the true question is whether he'd actually want to. The indications are that he doesn't want to.

I've mentioned this before, but we have to speculate over the reason why he gave away his magic in the first place because that hasn't really been confirmed in the show. That reason, however, will be extremely important to whether he would even want to take the magic back (even if he could).

My theory is that, as part of his emotional collapse after the deaths of his four daughters, he (among other things) came to hate his magic. When he encountered four sisters, not only did they remind him of the daughters he had lost, but they were probably everything he would wish his daughters to have been had they lived longer. With his own magic having been used to such terrible ends (starting with masquerading as a god and ending with the deaths of his daughters), he saw an opportunity to rid himself of his power by giving it to four people he felt would use it far more wisely and beneficially than had he.

He probably didn't even consider the possibility that other people would start hunting those girls for power, or that the magic would remain linked to his reincarnation even though it now with other people (which, to my mind, suggests that the magic remains linked to him in some fashion even though other people are wielding it).

Regardless of how we speculate about his decision to give the magic away, we do know he made the decision to do so. It's therefore an important question to ask if even wants the magic back at all.

What I will say is that, while there have been some big clues in the show itself, Fairy Tales does make it absolutely clear that Equivalent Exchange applies to this setting. The book's version of The Tale of Two Brothers makes it clear that the gods cannot fully separate themselves from the world they've created without first taking back all the essence they've given away to their creations. However, the only way to take back the essence is to destroy the creations that possess it.

Since it's clear in the show (even if not confirmed) that giving away his magic to the Maidens has not fully separated Ozma from it, I think the rest of the implications will hold true as well: the only way for him to intervene and take back his magic is for him to destroy the Maidens who wield it. I think that would be a big problem for Oz and he would not be inclined to do such a thing.

I have speculated about what might happen if the person who is in a dying Maiden's final thoughts is Oz. Would he count as ineligible because he's a man, or would he count as eligible because he's the magic's true owner? What about the theory the Benevolent Conspiracy had that Amber's split power would yearn to be reunited (in Cinder)? Does the magic of the Four Maidens yearn to be reunited and made whole? Does it seek to do so, but cannot because it's trapped by the reincarnation rules having been twisted to apply to young women instead of young men, thereby requiring an intervention to return to Oz — and intervention that has never happened because it's something he resists and does not want?

Since Oscar has been subverting a lot of Ozma's long-standing behaviour and is clearly set up to break Oz out of his rut, it is entirely possible that Oscar may make different decisions regarding the magic, too (although not if the only reason it can be taken back is by killing a Maiden).

There's a lot of speculation to be had here — but I suspect that the reason it's never happened is not because Oz can't take it back.

So Volume 9 is getting delayed.

I honestly wasn't expecting it to come out this year. It normally drops in November and ends in February. But they had to take a 7-week hiatus this year to finish the second half, and had to delay a further week because of weather conditions in Texas. It finished so late this year that it would have been a big ask for it to start airing this year even if it had been a normal working environment for them. Things are far from normal right now.

I'd far rather them take their time to produce a quality product that doesn't destroy the health and wellbeing of their staff in the process. I'm completely on board with a delay.

In the meantime, do we know anything more about when the animated fairy tales are likely to be aired? I'm assuming that'll be running into a delay of some fashion as well.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.
