I'm not sure if I like this explanation more than Raven just running away from motherhood.

No, that is just raven figuring out Her daughter and husband are not edgy enough for her so she leave.

Which is pretty much canon.

Could be worse, I saw the last panel first and thought that was Ruby.

Pretty sure if Tai's and Summer's genders were swapped not so many would find the comic funny.

Dobule standards when it comes to sexual advances are not anything newsworthy. We have an index for that sort of thing.

At least here those double standards are not exploited to downplay something like domestic abuse.

I though the same, I have to do a double glance to confirm it was summer.

More reasons to dislike RWBY if anyone needed any:

• The trailers and games and books are pretty neat
• ...but are they?
• ARE. THEY.
• Ilia's motivations in the Blake short are left mostly undisclosed in the plot proper.
• Rooster Teeth has a problem with Show and Fan Convention Segregation - Qrow supposedly doesn't use his scythe against anything but Grimm, but that's not true in the show, so not only is it inaccurate but it relies on people going to the panels to hear that information. Not everybody wants to get caught up in the supplemental stuff.
• Volume 5 was kind of awful with making characters feel like characters
• Good character moments only exist in the supplemental stories (like RWBY Chibi)
• Does not like RWBY Chibi

Yeah I'm done with this video.

• Characters with abysmal personalities in the show get their dues in RWBY Chibi
• RWBY fanart is pretty good and Rooster Teeth should be praised for being so community-driven
• Suggestion to fix RWBY's dialogue and overbearing amounts of exposition.

Wait, are you just saying what the video talks about, or are you saying you agree with a lot of what they said?
Cause if you are doing the latter, some of this is just bull.

• Ilia's parents are brought up at several points in the show proper.
• I've never head of them saying Qrow only used his Scythe on Grimm at all.
• Volume 5 did everyone dirty but it gave some moments to Raven and did Ilia alright.
• There are plenty of good character moments in the main series. Too tired to list them now, but when I next wake up if anyone wants a list I'll get to work on it.
• The One Liners reads like trying to turn this into a cheesy action flick. Not everyone needs a catchphrase, and using it just to establish a character's traits can head into narm territory if they become a Broken Record.

Like any good controlling father, he's only worried that his kids are fucking disappointing burdens upon the family name/business.

I'm now picturing Raven as a bird from a False Knees comic.

So she abandoned her own daughter, but has time to visit said daughter's half-sister just to rant about how much she hates the latter's mother.

Maybe Qrow's not the only one hitting the bottle in their family.

Do you mean she talked in bird form somehow? Or did she change right in front of a little kid to rant about how she hates the kid's mother? And Ruby never brought this up with anyone?

How canon this comic is, actually?

So this whole time, all Yang had to do was camp out under Ruby's window and wait until her mother came to bitch out about Summer?

That is hilarious.

Ruby notices Raven sitting on a tree branch and comes over to chat with her. Raven then makes a speech about Summer and how she was a shitty mother, wife and a huntress, all while staiyng in her bird form. Ruby then goes to share this with Yang and Qrow, whose reactions consist of bursting into tears and going "Hmm..." respectively.

To be fair, we don't know if that was a regular thing. It might have been a singular occurence. Still, it is a weird scene that makes no sense in the context of the characters or the larger story.

The comic was confirmed as canon by Miles, I believe, but with how many times it contradicted the show already, you are best off ignoring that statement and just treating it as a spin-off of sorts.

And none of that ever came up in the show? Yang, in particular, never mentioned it when meeting her mom? Hell, this instance alone didn't immediately discourage her from trying to find Raven?

This sounds like a parody skit. Why would anyone make this canon to the show?

What was the writer freaking smoking?! And what was Miles smoking that made him agree to this being canon?!

Okay, I found the comic online, and basically, Yang's was hyping up Summer to Ruby, who then went outside to play, and started talking to some random bird about what she heard. Of course the bird was Raven, who got pissed off, said something about how Summer "could never be a true mother to Yang" and was weak. This upsets Ruby who throws a rock at Raven, saying she's a Grimm while crying in disbelief.

That line I quoted in particular bugs me, considering Raven abandoned Yang, making her a far worse mother, and yet her use of the phrase "true mother" implies to me she sees Yang as her own daughter. Not sure that's a route any of us want to see Raven's character development go.
