TLP Crash Rescue - Fixing prematurely launched TLPs and pages

Yup, you can do it yourself; just cite the TLP draft in the edit reason.

It needs to be added to the index, but one of us can do that.

Okay — I’ve added the trope’s NRLEP status to the page, citing this thread and the original TLP draft in the edit reasons. It’s ready to add to the NRLEP index whenever is convenient.

I have no objections to the trope staying launched at this point. Thanks for the help, everyone.

The policies on marking things as NRLEP are a little unclear, I haven't been sure for a while whether we're supposed to include that link in the description or if simply indexing it there is enough.

The trope Threatening The Ties, that I created, was launched without my permission. I didn't announce a launch date nor did I give it up for grabs. How do I get it unlaunched?

Now that you've reported the issue here, a mod or engineer will unlaunch it soon. No worries.

I mean, I can unlaunch it but I can't do anything about the rogue launcher. It might be ideal to holler for a mod.

A mod will take care of it eventually.

To change the topic: I have some major concerns about deerhornsaresopretty’s draft Sweet Squirrel Sidekick. I’ve repetitively questioned whenever the core concept here is an actual trope or not, given that “adjective animal” tropes have been troublesome for a while.

Early on, the core concept was pretty much “nice squirrel”, which I had qualms about, given that such a concept doesn’t seem to have much of a cultural basis and “good/evil animals” are prone to Trope Decay, primarily of the “coexists, but isn’t meaningful” type. Their counter-argument then was that it stood in opposition to Screwball Squirrel, which I found odd, as Screwball Squirrel is less “mean squirrel” and more so “wacky/trickster squirrel”, and a few of the examples on their draft seemed to overlap with such already.

From there on, they kept on changing the definition as more criticisms (largely from myself, admittedly…) were made, going from Friendly Neighbourhood Squirrel (in a snowclone of Friendly Neighborhood Spider), to Surprisingly Domestical Squirrel, to Squirrel Mascot (when I pointed out that Weasel Mascot arguably already covers many of the examples), and finally to the current title. Through all those supposed definition changes, they failed to appropriately alter the description or examples, leaving the definition increasingly muddled.

Recently, they actually did bother to try to properly rework it, defining it as “Because squirrels represent innocence and a love for nature, they are used to convey the goodness of a hero”. Yet, after all of this, I have to ask: is it a trope? There’s a more specific concept here, at least, but many of the examples fail to reflect that, instead boiling down to “character has squirrel sidekick, they’re nice and cute”.

I’d feel a little bad for shooting down the draft again given that I’ve already criticized it a ton, but I still think it’s far from ready (even disregarding all the previous criticisms, it only has 13 examples so far, and I’d argue that drafts should have some more examples to ensure that they have enough wicks to not fade into obscurity after launch). I’ve raised concerns about how productive deerhornsaresopretty has been, as it’s causing them to seemingly rush some of their drafts.

Anyway, I posted on the squirrels draft. If it still launches I'd have to send it back, but I made it clear that there are still significant problems.

I suspended the rogue-launcher of that TLP.

With that, I'll unlaunch it.

I'll go ahead and send the laconic to the Cut List to cap it off.

Tipped Off by the Tail has been launched without a launch date; the draft was made 3 days ago, and there are still a discussion and an example from the comment section while this was launched.

Flux 55 just rogue-launched my draft Soda Candy Gag.

They have a habit of rushing into TLP drafts, evidenced by the past few drafts they've made. Though they're abstaining from making drafts, I guess that doesn't extend to rogue-launching them.

Suspended them and unlaunched the draft.
