I mean, all those wealthy multi disciplinary masters were pretty much also all so wealthy they didn't need to work for a living if they didn't want to, no? And I think it takes a lot more work and education to figure out the relationship between conversion of energy and mass and that such a thing can even happen than it is to, say, discover the basics of inherited traits. Though I don't think Mendel would actually be an example of one of those multi discipline masters. Nor was he exactly swimming in money.

Man those were the times, where scientist and scholars didn't have to worry about grants or the like.

Some Capcom games (Street Fighter, Rival Schools, Final Fight, Strider) have a connected universe with each other. In videos and posts about a possible Darkstalkers sequel, people sometimes dip into a not yet defined connected universe, Capcom games tied into some form of Makai/Demon World. In fact, there was once a manga compendium for both Video Game/Darkstalkers and Red Earth called "Maleficarum". I think Jedah's work on the Majigen (a new dimension fusing all souls together) could make for good grounds for a sword and sorcery fighting game crossover or revival of multiple franchises at once, connecting various Makai and Human worlds in space and time. This could also set up a crossover with Bandai Namco's Soulcalibur series, since I've already been making the Darkstalkers fighters for such a game in Soul Calibur VI's create a fighter. Potential characters:

Darkstalkers:

• 21 Returning fighters: Morrigan, Lilith, Felicia, B.B.Hood, Q-Bee, Hsien-ko (Lei-Lei), Marionette, Donovan, Jedah, Dimitri, Jon Talbain, Rikuo, Lord Raptor, Bishamon, Anakaris, Viktor, Dee, Sasquatch, Huitzil, Pyron, Shadow
• 3 Promoted to Playable: Lin-Lin, Khaibit, Anita
• 3 from Marvel vs. Capcom 2: Ruby Heart, Amingo, Son-Son (the former two were rumored to have been considered for Darkstalkers to begin with)

Red Earth:

• 4 Returning fighters: Tessa, Leo, Kenji, Mai-Ling
• 5 Promoted to Playable: Hydron, Kongou, Ravange, Lavia, Scion

Ghosts 'n Goblins / Makaimura:

• 3 returning playable characters: Arthur, Firebrand, Maximo

Breath of Fire: One of each Ryu, Nina, and Deis coming from different games; and Spara (since there isn't another plant person)

• I could see characters from Devil May Cry (Dante, Trish, or Vergil), but as the above linked video pointed out, this might overshadow the rest of the game.
• I could see guest fighters from Nippon Ichi's games.

I guess everyone and their mother wants to have a connected universe these days.

Oh, they've been connected for decades. And not just in crossover games, they've shared characters, too. The only recent addition was the suggestion that Strider is in the far future of the timeline.

Really? Huh, I knew Capcom was fond of crossover games, but an connected universe? That's new.

Most games connected to Street Fighter started as SF properties before being spun off into something different but still related. I heard somewhere that Resident Evil and Dead Rising might share the same setting. Mega Man classic and X are in the same world as each other, just many years apart.

the Marvel Vs games act like characters who have in-character reasons for being familiar with each other indeed are, but those games themselves aren't canon to anything.

Incidentally, Devil May Cry started as a Resident Evil project, but isn't connected to it. It still kinda blows my mind that the two franchises are so separate in terms of age. I just assumed DMC started earlier than it actually did.

Interesting how various works can have a whole hidden layer of lore that most people never even notice.

The stories behind the cards in Yugioh are actually absurdly detailed. For example, the Pot and Goblin of Greed.

McDonalds Japan makes way better adds.

And for some reason some right wing weirdos have latched onto this and have tried positioning it as an attack on the left (because they expect an ad featuring a cishet couple as a happy family is making the left seethe).

This is why we can't have nice things.

The comments for this are wild. It's 1/3 people saying how cute the add is, 1/3 people joking about Shinzo Abe, and 1/3 people accusing the other side of losing their minds over the add.

I've yet to see comments losing their minds over it, that people insist are there.

If nothing else, over a decade of spending time in online space taught me a really important lesson:

When you hear an outrage or controversy over something, make sure if it's an actual thing not a manufactured outrage.

Does anyone have/collect figures of characters from any franchises they like?

It's a rather small collection, but I do collect and assemble Gunplas.

Aren't those Gundam models?

Yuuuuuuup.

They're used for battling, right? Seems like a really cool hobby.

Oh, no, no. They are just for collecting and assembling. At least, as far as I know. Who knows, the world of Gunpla is old, massive, and weird, so maybe there ARE Gunplas for battle.

I though the whole point was to fight with them. There was a whole anime about that.

Maybe I'm thinking about a different type of figures.

Gunpla (Gundam figure building and displaying) is incredibly popular. As a Transformers fan, I'm kinda jealous.

There's different types of figures: collectable, functional, aesthetic, etc. Think of figures like mini statues. And Gundam or Transformers figures like mini statues where instead of being aesthetically beautiful, they're aesthetically cool. Some people collect Pops! figures, but that's not for me.

As a kid, I used to play with Transformers, as food for the imagination. I briefly collected Yugioh or Pokemon cards to make friends, but collecting didn't used to be big for me. Recently, some very show accurate retail priced Transformers were made of the characters I grew up with, and I decided to get some for display on my shelving just to bring a bit of joy and decoration. Then I also happened to notice some Marvel Legends figures for Captain America: Sam Wilson and and the 5 members of The Ultimates (2015), so I wanted to get those, too. Now I'm thinking I'd like to have a couple small collections of statues or action figures of different things I'm a fan of. I've never been a "never removed from box" kind of collector, so I'm looking for a reasonable price, realistically styled, and preferably with articulation. My end goal for collections is:

• 18 Transformers / Beast Wars characters: All of the (organic) Maximals from the show (subbing in Cybershark for Depth Charge), Dragon Megatron, Magmatron, and a third party Predaking (the less expensive smaller version that doesn't include the wolves)
• 6 Marvel heroes: Captain America: Sam Wilson and and the 5 members of The Ultimates (2015)
• This particular Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Megazord set
• Several Sonic the Hedgehog characters (not necessarily all of them, but... maybe?)
• The 4 Yugioh Elemental Charmers

If I can find affordable figures of the strong female characters (not just because they're waifus!) from Darkstalkers, Final Fantasy X, Fire Emblem Three Houses, and Soul Calibur.

A little bit of an ego/small wins thing: I like when I make popular youtube comments. So it annoys me when Youtube, who already doesn't give all notifications, turns off comment reply notifications without telling me. But since I just turned them back on, I was surprised with some notifications I just now got:

• A fE3H joke on a Smash Bros comic short that got over 9000 likes in a week
• A simple off the cuff joke on a CalebCity video from 6 years ago that for some reason has over 32k likes and is still getting replied to.

Nice.

Is it me, or did YT comment sections became significantly less toxic than they used to be?
