Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Tonight... A curious sci-fi movie... Boasting the likes of Charlton Heston, Tim Matheson, Peter Boyle, and Jack Palance... Directed by "Alan Smithee" (Word is that the movie fared so terribly when it was initially released in theaters overseas that its producers extensively recut and reshot the movie to appease American distributors, which upset the director).

The premise involves some astronauts who have to drop a bomb on the Sun in order to divert a solar flare so that it doesn't set Earth on fire.

This is Solar Crisis.

Alright, we'll be off and running with Jerma to get things rolling.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we're bombing the Sun to protect Earth from solar flares in Solar Crisis...

This is relatively straightforward business for tonight. This is basically a complete rehashing of Django (which, in turn, was already an imitation of A Fistful of Dollars) principally made just to bank on its popularity. Some bandits steal some gold, they aim to kill one of their own and take his share of the loot, but they don't do a good enough job of the killing, and their rube claws his way out of a shallow grave with a thirst for vengeance.

I know that doesn't sound all that exciting, but, apparently, this copycat film does stand out in its field for its portrayal of graphic (Italian) violence... and I'm also seeing the word "surreal" being thrown around in multiple descriptions, but this doesn't quite strike me as El Topo.

Here's Django Kill (aka Django Kill... If You Live Shoot!)

I'm being a bit lazy, but while I'm browsing through spaghetti westerns on YouTube, I'm suddenly craving a repeat of My Name is Nobody ([awesome][awesome][awesome][awesome]), with Henry Fonda and Terrence Hill.

We're off with cRiT1KaL and a random grab bag of some other stuff.

So tonight we got a curious made-for-television movie sequel that nobody ever asked for: The Stepford Husbands, starring Donna Mills, Michael Ontkean... and Cindy Williams.

The original film, of course, works as a feminist horror story. Continuing the theme, I suppose the message here is that women can be as wicked and domineering as men, once male hierarchy is upended; now that's what I call gender equality.

Tonight we find out what The Stepford Husbands is all about. A gender-swapped Stepford Wives? Hmm...

Before that, old-school 80s nostalgia to remind me that my childhood actually sucked.

Heh. "And now wives are expected to not only have careers, but also take care of the house, and their husbands. But it is possible to have it all."

By creating a Stepford Husband.

I love this concept.

Oh my god, that ending. Almost a typical Godfrey Ho ending, but not quite. THOSE FROGS. NormalGuy says that ending bumped up his vote from a 1 to a 2.

It got a unanimous ★★ from all five of us.

Apologies, I was swamped with a 15+ hour workday yesterday, and did not have an opportunity to pick out a movie for Saturday in advance... and it appears nobody else picked anything else out in my absence.

Anyway, in haste, allow me to propose some odd 21st Century Indiana Jones ripoff (and I do stress "Indiana Jones ripoff") called Jack Hunter and the Quest for Akhenaten's Tomb.

No idea what to expect, but I can't be anything good.

We'll be looking forward to some post-apocalypse action tonight. As these sorts of plot lines go, this one seems to have so much going on that even the trailer seems a bit too confusing...

After a nuclear war decimated the northern hemisphere, the surviving population was infected with a deadly bacterium. In an attempt to rebuild civilization, a self appointed government called 'The ORDER' distributed an immunization to the bacteria, - with one unintended consequence - it killed all the children.

Only one man remained immune - Jake Slater. The only child that survived is his daughter. Now, Jake scavenges the wasteland searching for a way to keep his daughter alive, unaware that she is the only key to the survival of humankind.

Like Johnny Mnemonic meets Children of Men or something like that.

This is Blue World Order (I cannot believe this is actually a title for a movie).

We're not watching this to rate it. I don't even want to bother putting this one on our big list.

I just want to run it to single out Prom for never having watched this movie before. You should've been watching TBS more often 20 years ago.

Joe Pesci leads an all-star ensemble cast with Marissa Tomei, Ralph Macchio, Fred Gwynne, Lane Smith, Bruce McGill, and James Rebhorn in the courtroom comedy My Cousin Vinny.

Unfortunately, once again conflicting plans means John and I'll miss the movie. Fortunately, we have it on DVD, so aside from the preshow we can watch it anyway later.

Alright, I'm starting us off with a first look at an old British sketch comedy series featuring Mitchen & Webb and that dude we always call "Garth Marenghi" just because he played Garth Marenghi.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, strap in for Joe Pesci in My Cousin Vinny...
