Our Next Feature Presentation: The Stuff (10/12)

Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

I'm gonna announce this ahead of time just because it's a big fucking deal: For the first time EVER, we're gonna be running THE famous, original (both more famous and more original than Ray's Pizza) 1966 spaghetti western Django, directed by Sergio Corbucci and starring Franco Nero... and we're gonna be getting to it TOMORROW NIGHT! The movie will truly be a rite of passage...

In other news, our annual Barbarian Brothers Weekend rolls on tonight with our personal favorite, Double Trouble...

So I found two treasures this weekend.

One is excellent preshow fodder from the early TMNT days called "The Mystery of the Cliffs", officially commissioned in order to champion land preservation.

The other is a lovely bit of z-grade action nonsense that is essentially Rambo, but with a Native American character and a similar theme. Apologies for the weirdly cropped trailer, but it's the only one I could find. Behold, Thunder [1983]:

As I had mentioned yesterday... Get psyched tonight for a true right of passage.

We may have nearly 2000 movies under our belt, but that doesn't mean ANYTHING when we still haven't seen Django (Yes, the original)!

For better or for worse, that problem will finally be rectified tonight.

Alright, we're starting off with one final blare of the Time Trumpet.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we sit back and take in Franco Nero as the original Django!

[up] [up] [up] [up] If you think that's weird, wait till you get an earful of Galaxina, which my mom, John and I watched on her birthday last Wednesday because she finds the movie and all its awfulness hysterical (which it was, but that's not the point).

A police cruiser of slackers - including cynical Captain Cornelius Butt, more-or-less secondary main character Sergeant Thor, literal space cowboy Buzz, bat-human alien mechanic Maurice, I dunno what he does besides smoke space opium Sam Wo, and titular sex bot slash maid main protagonist Galaxina - is told to pick up a special magic crystal snow globe thing called the Blue Star-

Ah-ahhh

-from a dangerous planet where they worship a Harley-Davidson (yes, really), held by clearly-not-Darth-Vader. It's bizarre, a tiny bit extremely sexist, and overall a perfect candidate for this.

[up][up][up]Also, this is a movie I (and everybody else) has GOT to see!

Anyway, it took me a bit longer to realize this than it should have, but tonight's movie is actually from the director of Django ([awesome][awesome][awesome][awesome], if you missed it Monday), Sergio Corbucci.

A police officer is exposed to nuclear radiation and walks away with superpowers (his only weakness is looking at the color red, which makes him lose his superpowers).

Starring Terrence Hill as the supercop and Ernest Borgnine! According to IMDb, this movie aired frequently on HBO in the 80's, and coincidentally, this movie is coming to us tonight in the form of an old recording from one such broadcast (in 1983).

Meet Super Fuzz...

Alright, we'll get rolling with another episode of Nathan Barley.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, Terrence Hill is the super cop who cannot be stopped (unless he sees the color red) in Super Fuzz.

So apparently the sequel to The Girl, which we watched (there are multiple movies with that name, but I'm talking about the one we saw where adult Dipper Pines kept a woman chained up in his shed for whatever reasons) will take place on a spaceship. She's an alien alright. What could the sequel possibly do?

SeanMurrayI Since: Jan, 2010
#21972: Sep 28th 2019 at 9:30:18 AM

[up]That's seriously getting a sequel... set in space?!?

Anyway, tonight I'm leaving behind a revisit to Troma's The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie. The last time we watched this, Donald Trump wasn't even "Freedomland Overlord" yet, so we'll see how this story still holds up.

BonsaiForest Since: Jan, 2001
#21973: Sep 28th 2019 at 4:27:57 PM

[up] Yeah, supposedly. I wonder how they could possibly expand upon that story. What a sequel could do. It's common for sequels to be "the original, but with a twist" but here, the original is literally "a messed up man keeps a space woman prisoner in his shed, and his son finds out." How could you make a sequel to that, especially in space? Will it be "a messed up man keeps a space woman prisoner on his spaceship, and his son finds out?"

Anyway, tonight we got whatever I'm adding to the preshow (the videos I uploaded are taking too long to convert), and the movie is Toxic Avenger 3. It's classic Troma trash, period.

Well, I know we're not gonna be ready for this (We will never be ready for this), but we've been sitting on another Logan Paul movie vehicle with all the subtlety and nuance of an utterly unimaginative dystopian "young adult" novel.

The question is, "What kind of world would we live in if children who do poorly in school were subjected to mass execution?" Well, if it means Logan Paul would be dead, then it surely can't be a totally awful thing.

Grab your drugs and booze, and be prepared for The Thinning.

I just watched the Supernatural episode where the characters get sucked into a TV and end up in a Scooby Doo episode. It's really entertaining and funny, often making fun of the original show (as the Supernatural protagonists are very familiar with Scooby's tropes). I split it into two halves, so it might work as two pre-shows.
