Here's another one of those "trope as a placeholder" names.

Any suggestions? Personally, I'd say The X Formerly Known as Y or something similar.

I must once again point out that this one was given a pass by Eddie during the initial purge of the trope as placeholder names.

Whether he still feels that way or not is unknown.

Not sure what's going on. Missing a paragraph, and the 1st can be shortened and made less of a Useful Notes feel. Sounds like either a Useful Notes Page on Prince that's way too short (with examples), Administrivia, with examples, or whatever is intended.

Administrivia.

Do we need to add a note on the discussion page that this name is allowed to stay?

Not sure what you mean by that - the name sounds like it, but the page certainly isn't, being about a type of Stock Parody.

I believe it's a stock Shout-Out.

I think calling it a parody makes more sense, as (at least from the examples) it's almost always some sort of joke, rather then merely a reference. But it's not really an important distinction either way; my point was that it's clearly not Administrivia.

Septimus was just telling spacemarine how to spell Administrivia.

Eesh, this is fine. Can someone lock this thread, please?

No. My Administrivia point is because of the last sentence of the description, and this trope is all over the place.

You mean the "Not to be confused with Renamed Tropes" line?

That would be a good joke on the Renamed Tropes page. "The X Formerly Known as Y is the trope formerly known as The Trope Formerly Known as X."

I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.

Realized that this is easy to Pothole Abuse for anything formerly known as something else, and the name idea doesn't help that.

What name would be better then? The X Formerly Known as Y would have the same problem.

I'm sorry, but the idea of pothole abuse doesn't hold water with only 46 wicks.

This trope has been around for more than 5 years. If it was going to become a pothole magnet, it would have done so by now.

I tweaked the description to make it more obvious what it is. I don't think the problem was that it was all over the place, just that it took too long to come to the point. The examples indicate that people understood the idea.

That sounds like a parody of stereotypical princes.

I'm still not seeing a major problem here.

I don't see why there has to be a major problem to redirect farm.

Though, I don't see why we need an open thread to redirect farm, either. Again, Redirects Are Free; even if I personally reject a suggestion like The Artist Formerly Known As X as a redirect, you can still go and make it a redirect, anyway. Making a conversation about possible redirects for a page is ultimately a pointless thing for the Repair Shop.

...What? Redirect farming has been a valid repair shop topic since before it was called the Trope Repair Shop.
